Patch 3.3 Notes

Warlock
Affliction
  • Improved Felhunter: This talent now also reduces the cooldown on the felhunter’s Shadow Bite ability by 2/4 seconds.
Demonology
  • Decimation: Redesigned. When Shadowbolt, Incinerate or Soul Fire hit a target that is at or below 35% health, the cast time of Soul Fire is reduced by 30/60% for 8 seconds. Soul Fires cast under the effect of Decimation cost no shards.
  • Demonic Pact: This talent now also increases the warlock's spell damage by 1/2/3/4/5%.
Destruction
  • Conflagrate: Redesigned. This talent now consumes an Immolate or Shadowflame effect on the enemy target to instantly deal damage equal to 9 seconds of Immolate or 8 seconds of Shadowflame, and causes additional damage over 3 seconds equal to 3 seconds of Immolate or 2 seconds of Shadowflame.
Pets
  • Doomguard/Infernal: These pets now innately have Avoidance like all other warlock pets.
  • Shadow Bite: This pet ability now provides 15% increased damage for each of the warlock’s damage-over-time effects on the target.

Sweet. D'oh.

PTR Notes Patch 3.3

There are several changes for Warlocks in the latest patch. Notes can be found here. Ericmonstr and Tzarph beat me to it (had to make it look pretty...)

Talents

Pets
  • Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.
  • Doomguard/Infernal: These pets now innately have Avoidance like all other warlock pets.
  • Shadow Bite: This pet ability now provides 15% increased damage for each of the warlock’s damage-over-time effects on the target.
  • Summon Imp: This ability is now available from the trainer for level 1 warlocks and no longer requires a quest to learn.
Professions
  • Enchanting
  • Enchant Weapon - Black Magic: This enchantment now sometimes increases haste rating for the caster rather than inflicting the caster’s target with a damage-over-time effect. It is also now triggered by landing any harmful spell rather than inflicting damage with a spell.
  • Enchant Weapon - Unholy: This enchantment now inflicts Shadow damage in addition to its original effect.
Bug Fixes
  • Drain Soul: This spell now deals 4 times the normal damage for all ranks. Previously it was only ranks 6 and above.
  • Suffering (Voidwalker): Ranks 5-8 had the incorrect taunt radius of 5 yards and have all been adjusted to a 10-yard radius
Other Notes
  • Area-of-Effect Damage Caps: We’ve redesigned the way area damage is capped when hitting many targets. Instead of a hard cap on total damage done, the game now caps the total damage done at a value equal to the damage the spell would do if it hit 10 targets. In other words, if a spell does 1000 damage to each target, it would hit up to 10 targets for 1000 each, but with more than 10 targets, each target would take 1000 damage divided by the number of targets. 20 targets would be hit for 500 damage each in that example.

Re: PTR Notes Patch 3.3

Good stuff. Looks like they're setting up the felhunter as the affliction pet of choice, and Demonology is getting a nice buff there. If i'm reading that right, we'll be able to get off more than one Soulfire with a single Decimation (they've basically removed the "next" form it).

Re: PTR Notes Patch 3.3

My thoughts on all this (if everything sticks):
-Affliction is getting a fairly large boost. 15% increased dot damage is a pretty large increase to overall dps.
-Demonology is also recieving a large boost. Decimation weaving will now be over. If you read the tooltip, soul fires themselves now cause the effect. ie, soul fire chain casting.
-Destruction is unfortunately receiving a pvp nerf as conflagrate's burst potential is being lowered by 25%. In pve, it's not going to be such a big deal, as the damage caused should stay the same (at least in fights longer than 5 sec :D )

Demonlogy is obviously getting the biggest boost here. Being able to chain cast decimations will not only make it a hell of lot easier, but cause much more damage.

Re: PTR Notes Patch 3.3

Now this is interesting...

Improved Felhunter makes shadow bite cooldown shorter, plus the other general overall felhunter buff of 15% more damage from shadowbite for each dot on the target may change the pet of choice from Succy to Felhunter.

For Demonology, if you can chain free Soulfires for 8 seconds with 60% haste...I'm imagining what would happen under the influence of heroism/bloodlust. And Demonic Pact is a 5% damage increase. I approve of this buff Although I also wonder what it'll do to PVP...you get a SB on someone below 35%, then you can go around throwing free soulfires at other people (I'm thinking of a bg situation here...) until the 8 seconds are up.

But is the AOE damage change a nerf or a buff? It almost seems a nerf...you perhaps hit more at a time, but they go down slower? I'd like to see that in action with, say, a hunter, mage, and warlock aoeing down whelps or something and time it to see if it alters encounters where getting adds down fast is key. (Was AOE ignoring some of the adds before once a damage limit was reached? Or how does that work atm on live?)

The Conflag change looks like a PVP nerf...you get 11 seconds rather than 12 seconds in total, but only burst for 8 of them if conflagging off a immolate...the other 3 are a dot.

That is nice -- should be able to refresh a dot or move without throwing the timing all off.

Re: PTR Notes Patch 3.3

Wonder what this will mean for the old hybrid spec? It will be missing the DP buff, but if you can get the right fire damage buffs to throw incinerate followed by chain soulfire....hmmm...

Something like this?

Well no. Not exactly. The requirements to get the buff still apply. That is, you need to land a Shadow Bolt, Incinerate, or Soul Fire on a target that is under 35% health in order for Decimation to appear for every Soul Fire you cast. It's just now you can use Soul Fire to get the buff of itself on a target below 35% health. So you won't get one BG target below 35% and just blast everybody with it. At best you could blast that 35% target and get the buff to use on a secondary target. But if that secondary target isn't below 35% health you loose the buff. The 8 seconds is merely a timer to ensure we can't save the reduced Soul Fire for a later fight. Use it or lose it.

re: Patch 3.3 Notes

I didn't see this change in either of the patch note threads so I decided to tag it on to this one...

Curse of the Elements: Rank 4 has been increased to 11%, up from 10%.
