New Lore on Jaina & Sylvanas in Preparation for Icecrown

You may have seen that the upcoming 5 player dungeon has us fighting side by side with either Jaina or Sylvanas (and with that new skin, that's an appealing prospect...). For the Lore minded, Blizzard has revealed more backstory to these two characters. The blue post can be found here and the bio page found here.

Countless heroes and villains have played a part in the ever-changing tableau of Azeroth’s history. In the upcoming World of Warcraft content patch, two will step forward to confront the Lich King Arthas -- one a former friend, the other a former servant -- in the Icecrown Citadel: The Frozen Halls dungeon.

Learn more about Jaina Proudmoore of the Alliance and Sylvanas Windrunner, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken, on our new bio page.

Not that much new info on them, but still a nice read.
A good summary for those who've forgotten or for the ones who didn't play WC3.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit odd that they omitted the civil war between Sylvanas and Balnazzar, Detheroc and Varimathras during TFT?

I don't think it's odd. They certainly couldn't put all the details in or the pages would be HUGE. The details about Balnazzar, Detheroc, and Varimathras don't really add much in the over arching story about Ice Crown and the Lich King. Ultimately they were side stories to Sylvanas in this regard.

I think it also bears mentioning the tremendous influence Jaina has over the humans of today. Since she was the only one brave enough to lead her people over the sea to Kalimdor to fight against the Burning Legion in the third war she is arguably the second-in-command of the human race. Now that Bolvar is gone she would be the logical choice to take over leadership should something ever happen to the king. His son, Anduin is too young and would really be king in name only-just like he was before-with Jaina being the true leader of the humans. I don't expect him to be going anywhere any time soon since he only just returned at the start of this expansion, but who knows?

I did notice that his name has thus far been left off the list of important people in Cataclysm, where both Thrall and Garrosh will apparently be in the spotlight. This could just be another example of the Alliance leaders being left by the wayside while the Horde ones get player interraction (and don't cry QQ...you know that it's been true in the past), or maybe he'll be killed during the battle with the Lich King. We'll have to wait and see.

Good point, though I still feel it wouldn't hurt to add one or two sentences mentioning the civil war. Varimathras still played a role in the Wrath of the Lich King-storyline, after all.

Jaina is undoubtely one of the most influential, if not powerful, humans in recent Warcraft-history. She led the surviving humans to Kalimdor, was the first line of defense in the battle of Mount Hyjal and managed to single-handedly stop three powerful characters(Varian, Thrall and Sylvanas) along with their forces from figthing eachother.
Not to mention that in the comic, she managed to crash a necropolis by freezing it solid all by herself.

Oh yes, there is no doubt that Jaina is insanely powerful as far as the major characters are concerned. I'm often disappointed how weak she is portrayed in Warcraft. Looking at the Mt. Hyjal raid (and yes I realize this takes place at an earlier point in time) she doesn't do much. Every five seconds she'll cast a fireball, then she melee attacks until the next one.

I really hope that she does something more impressive in these more current raids.

Re: New Lore on Jaina & Sylvanas in Preparation for Icecrown

It would have been cooler if she fought as she did in Warcraft 3, summoning water elementals and casting blizzard, yeah.
Dunno if this would make that part of the raid a bit too easy or if Blizzard was simply too lazy to do that, although the former could have been balanced out.

She does show an extent of her power in the assault on Undercity when she freezes everyone in the room and I've read she's a formidable raid boss for Horde, even though she's not counted as a faction leader.

I just hope the rumors about her being killed off in the Halls of Reflection instance proves to be false.
Blizzard hasn't even mentioned her yet i Cataclysm so far, not to mention that both the Alliance and the Horde are at war with eachother under the leadership of Varian and Garrosh, which does not bode well for Jaina's fate...

Sorry if I derail the topic somewhat, but did anyone stay with Jaina during the assault on Undercity instead of following Varian? I was kinda dissappointed, to be honest...
