Re: PTR 3.3 Updates

- less work

if something breaks in the implementation of the haste for dots / hots, all the coders are looking at is one item in the massive database of spells and talents (shadowform is one talent, the other two glyphs are essentially 2 items ).

- balance

shadow priest are shadow priest all 3 dots are weak in every way except when you're spec shadow ( and in fact you can't even access VT if you're not shadow ). by buffing corr atm, they are asking for trade offs from both meta and destruction warlocks. affliction isn't scaling so well atm and meta ain't exactly ripping the ToC charts so really one glyph ain't throwing out of whack anything, destruction on the other hand is doing fine

while both equates to less work, I am assuming most of you don't even realise how much work it takes to implement things. when dailies first rolled out, there was but a few. when phasing happened it wasn't popping up left right and center. the zones in nothrend got progressively more phasing to reflect the development cycle. blizzard has always taken a relatively cautious step when implementing new technology

and while I don't condone the use of private servers, if you ever hop on one... even the best ones around has trouble implementing dailies, phasing technology and alot of boss battles. blizzard doesn't just whack open notepad write a few bits of C code and call it a day.

Priests

Shadow
  • Improved Devouring Plague: This spell now deals 10/20/30% of its total periodic effect instantly, up from 5/10/15%.
  • Mind Flay: The range of this ability has been increased to 30 yards, up from 20.
  • Shadowform: This talent also now causes Devouring Plague, Shadow Word: Pain, and Vampiric Touch to benefit from haste. Both the period length and the duration of these spells will be reduced by haste. In addition, the mana cost has been reduced from 32% to 13% of base mana.
  • Vampiric Embrace: This ability is now provides a 30-minute buff that cannot be dispelled, instead of a target debuff and only generates healing for single-target shadow damage spells.

IF I understood correctly, they will be these spells benefit from haste by a talent. Why will affliction be this by a glyph?
This may also be a test (to a degree). One thing GC said in a previous post (it's too long to quote, but the Den post is here) was that glyphs provide an ideal testing ground since they don't require a lot of tinkering with talents that may have unintended consequences.
