Selected Blues from Blizzard's First Developer Twitter Chat

Trying to select information that hasn't appeared in some way, shape or form on the news page... the following quotes are from the Q&A with developers off Blizzard's Twitter channel. The full Q&A can be found here.

Changes to LFG
Q: For Cross-realm LFG if the group is composed by members of other realms do they have to go on foot or will they be teleported?
A: The current plan is for players using the LFG system to be automatically teleported into the instance, similar to how battleground queuing works today. This is active on the PTR now, and we plan to host a community event around this feature soon!

Q: Any chance to have LFG menu to show classes you're looking for I.E just showing all tanks or healers currently qued in LFG.
A: The plan right now is to allow players to register for roles they are capable of filling, then have the queue system make the best decision possible for the player. This is to give all classes an equal chance at participation. We also have plans to diversify the class makeup in a future PTR update.

Q: May I create a group with 4 friends and then use the LFG interface to gain the random dungeon reward?
A: Yes. In fact, you can join it with a full group of 5 and still get the random dungeon reward. The reward is for doing a random dungeon, not necessarily for having random members.

PvP in Cataclysm
Q: Will there be Wintergrasp-like capturable zones in Cataclysm?
A: Yes, there is an island off the coast of the Eastern Kingdoms named Tol Barad. Players will fight for control of the island and its famous prison. However, while the battle for Tol Barad is not in progress, players will find that it will remind them much more of the Isle of Quel'Danas, in that it'll be a major daily quest hub with quite a bit of random world pvp (presumably).

IIC & Tier Gear:
Q: With T10, are we going to see tokens like in Ulduar? or like CC? CC style had every class and spec rolling on same thing.
A: With t10 we're going to see a hybrid. The tier 10 items (the ones with item levels you'd find in the 10-player raid) will be purchased with Emblems of Frost.

The tier 10.5 items (the ones with item levels you'd find in the 25-player raid) will be obtained by getting a token (one that is specific to 3 or 4 classes, much like the ulduar tokens) and using it to upgrade the tier 10 item that was purchased with emblems of frost.

Q: Any plans for a gated system in IIC like in Colliseum that prevents us from doing hardmodes from day 1?
A: We do have a system that unlocks bosses similar to how we handled TOC and Sunwell. We are restricting hard modes to raid leaders that have defeated Arthas in regular mode.

And some cruel dev tease...
Q: Can locks have a summonable flying mount now please
A: Now? As in right this second? No.

I ask you, members of the Den, is it really THAT hard to click on that flight master in dalaran and then wait a few minutes while you fly? Really? I can't speak for you but my guild mates and I are always peeved by those people who expect others to go to the stone at gundrak to summon them while they wait around in dalaran. Why are these people so lazy?

Why even bother having a world if you never need to see it? To me that was always one of my favorite parts of this game: the gorgeous scenery! At least it makes me feel like I really am the stalwart hero of this huge, epic world. If we do this then what's next? Will you just be able to open a menu and magically teleport from zone to zone?

You're not wrong, however it's sort of irrelevant.

This is literally just for the "random heroic daily" stuff. You click "I'm a DPS" and will suddenly get ported into an instance with 4 random people. And get a reward if you finish. I think the feel is "5 strangers thrown together" and I imagine it's in addition to the existing daily, offering an incentive to look outside the guild and risk strangers.

I might try it if I'm really bored.

Well, how else would it work? They'll be enabling cross realm groups in the near future to solve the problem people have with finding groups for anything less than end game. You can't exactly summon somebody who isn't in your realm now can you? Nor can you talk to them or even see them on your map to know how long it'll be before they're ready to go. Teleporting everybody into the instance solves that problem.

Re: Selected Blues from Blizzard's First Developer Twitter Chat

A few things I find attractive and make me feel warm inside... a new WG like pvp zone. Having 2 (assuming WG will still be a popular pvp hotspot) instead of just one every 2 hours is nice for those of us that enjoy pvp and for those that have finished raiding and dailies and have nothing else to do;)

Another thing is the LFG and the various rewards that come from it. While ideally I would run these with guildies sometimes that doesn't happen and finding a tank and/or healer is such a pain at times.

But what I enjoyed most about this was the hint/tease of a warlock summonable flying mount!! This is something many of us have felt we deserved for a while now, and when Pally got an argent version of their summonable mount I sort of felt.. not cheated, but unloved. lol A flying demonic mount would rock. I just hope that if you have a 310% speed mount this summonable mount would scale.

We're talking about heroic dungeons here, not the end of questing and travel in WoW. The summoning stones are there for a reason, so that when two party members arrive they can begin summoning the rest and get the show on the road. If two people are already at the stone and I'm not going to arrive for five minutes, why shouldn't they summon me? Or what if someone is in the Old World with their hearth down, I've got to wait for someone to travel from Orgrimmar to Utgarde Pinnacle? I travel from one side of Northrend to the other almost every day doing dailies. I'm very familiar with the scenery. To be honest, most people I know use the flight path or point their flyer in the right direction and press auto-run and then do something else while they wait, they don't sit there and chew the sights. Don't take that the wrong way either, exploration and the beauty of Azeroth are thing I greatly enjoy as well. Just yesterday, in fact, I flew from Moonglade to Thousand Needles with the camera zoomed in and ctrl+z to remove my interface just to watch the view as I had a snack.

I wouldn't want to see this dungeon portalling extended to all dungeons and raids because I do agree with the spirit of what you're saying. Perhaps they could restrict the automatic summoning to people who have made the journey through traditional means first?

Think it's a technical issue about it being cross server, no?

Aye, thats what I was touching upon too. I mean the question to that response clearly says:

Quote:
Q: For Cross-realm LFG if the group is composed by members of other realms do they have to go on foot or will they be teleported?
*emphasized for clarity.

-----

On another note. Let's say that the run has already been going on, and a member from another realm has to leave. We join the LFG queue and find another cross realm member. Does that member get an auto summons to the instance that has already been in progress? Or lets say the run has been going on and the cross realm member needs to go repair. In both cases, will our Warlock Summoning Portals be able to work cross realm as well so long as that member is in our party? I'm thinking the answer is Yes.

If so, then I submit this as a WARLOCK BUFF!!! Be prepared for other classes calling out to nerf us soon.

Although they'll probably do something about this, like summoning stones inside instances, still if they didn't, every pug would be screaming for warlocks. Someone DC? Pack up, hearth home. Have a Warlock? Let me summon aid from strange and terrible parallel dimensions...

The World (of Warcraft) at our mercy? /cackle
