Prizes for all on WoW's 5th Anniversary
OK, it's not for everyone, but as part of the 5th anniversary, apparently Blizzard is going to run a promotion with prizes based on the time you've been a subscriber. The original blue post is here and the rules and regulations are here. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of World of Warcraft on November 23, 2004 -- and to kick off the celebration, every week for the next five weeks, we'll be giving out prizes to players as a way to "thanks" for being a part of the World of Warcraft community these past five years. Each week, we'll randomly select winners from a different group of accounts based on how long they’ve been playing the game. The first week’s winners will receive a World of Warcraft Charge of the Great Dragonflights stein courtesy of this week'’s sponsor, Taverncraft. For more details on prizing and eligibility, please check out the rules at WoW -> Contests -> World of Warcraft 5 Year Anniversary Sweepstakes! and stick around for more five-year-anniversary festivities in the weeks ahead! |

It has a lot to do with how items are taxed or shipped/delivered. I really wish I remembered all the details, but it essentially ended up with the end user having to pay a lot of money for shiping costs and taxes on the item even though it was something they had won for free. The laws of the nation required these fees to be payed upon delivery. While I'm sure there is a lot more to it than just that, the point was that you probably wouldn't want to win an $80 dollar stein only to have to turn around and pay $60 in shipping fees and taxes in order to actually receive it.
