Assuming you're right, then the game mechanics are IMHO not in line with the tooltip description. But hey, I'm not complaining if I get a better deal than anticipated.

...for shadowbolt. but you'd still be losing 10% damage from each of your shadow dots, right? when you switch to SnF, you'd gain some % to SB but lose a pretty much straight 10% from both Curse of Agony and Corruption, correct?

I'm not real good at numberz n stuff, but seems to me like, unless you get a whole lot % more added to your SB's, you're still gonna lose out in total damage in the end by losing 10% from all of your shadow dots.

Just curious as to how much it would end up. If, say, you average almost 40% of your total damage from SB, 30% from Curse of Agony and 30% from Corruption (for simplicity), when you switch you'll lose 10% each of Curse of Agony's and Corruption's 30% (3%+3% = 6%). So you'd need to get at least 6% more damage to your SB's to make up for it. Ok I guess I agree it's probably not that hard to do once you get 1000+ damage gear. Plus by that time your guild is probably so well-geared you don't have to worry much about pulling aggro with big SB crits (?).

But I'm not sure I'd agree that it wins out at around 550 +damage gear. Not unless you're only counting SB, not dots.

Relax, we're just talking about the effect on Shadow Bolt. Affliction vs Destruction is an entirely different topic.

We just demonstrated that in a pure SB spamming world, S&F > SM when your +damage exceeds around 550. Now we all agree that no SM warlock in his/her right mind would spend a bossfight spamming SB and there are a lot of other factors to take into consideration.

Re: Shadow Mastery versus Shadow & Flame

Yeah, your getting into a much more contested topic thats more of a 41/x/x vs 0/21/40 type conversation. This gets much more involved, and takes into account not only the talents themselves, but a players gear, playstyle, general raid makeup, and needed raid utility. There is a lot of conversation on these boards about that question, including stickied threads about individual raid specs and their pros/cons/gear requirements.
