as i said earlier in this thread i leveled affliction and stayed that way as it was what i knew. i enjoyed it the skill of keeping all the dots up is rewarding but i got tired of not pulling my weight on the total damage due to the lack of burst and the attention required meant that i was getting some of the tactics wrong occasionally. so i dual speced destro. now i have time to spend watching omen and tactics of the bosses and I must admit i do love the high crit numbers. its worth noting that the cookie cutter destro spec has changed slightly in the thread here. extra point in destructive reach being the main thing. I found this has helped my agro a lot and have gone from being up near the tank in omen to down with the others. i havnt raided affliction in quite some time but on the heroic dummy im doing about 3k with destruction and 2.6k on affliction although i admit im not getting the rotations spot on with affliction so there is some to gain back there. but there is a lot to keep up, LT every 20secs, Curse of Agony, haunt UA and the long cast time of SB makes it quite tricky to get the best out of affliction. at the end of the day you need to get the bosses down as fast as possible part of it is dps part of it is agro management and part of it is getting the tactics right. destruction does better dps for me and the simple spell rotation frees me up to think about the tactics and agro management. So i can confidently say that im not following the sheep for the big numbers im doing whats best for the raid. The only thing thats bugging me with destro is on bosses wheres theres a fair bit of raid damage i have found myself sitting there waiting for a heal with half health and no mana having already popped the healthstone, potion and bandage (macroed). it doesnt happen very often but when it does i do find myself wondering if i would be in the same sitution with affliction. Having said that once i'm hit capped with 3 points in suppression once i get more gear with hit on it and in can loose the points in suppression and put them in SL and ISL im sure that will improve too. 3.2 has some interesting changes for affliction it will be interesting to see how they pan out. Re: Trying to justify staying affliction.
ok I have to say, I was playing and loving affliction for a while, and decided to switch to destro to try it out and see what I thought of it before giving it any more criticism, and I like it a lot. In fact, I'm going to keep it as my raiding build, and keep Demonology as my leveling for now. I like it more than aff, mostly because I've always had a thing for fire, and partly because I feel more useful when I'm pumping out crits with incinerate and chaos bolt, than when I was struggling to be useful to a group when fighting multiple mobs. I don't recall if I ever bashed destro in the few posts I made (haven't been here for a couple days and have spaced) but if I did I take it back :P |

Ulduar is just not Affliction friendly, but I like affliction and the guild wants it for the crit debuff. Quote:
Also, if you are life tapping for the buff, you are losing DPS. Quote:

I'm being left in the dust by rogues, feral kitties, and hunters. But I'm not willing to switch to destro, it doesn't suit me. |

Re: Trying to justify staying affliction.
It's a shame a favourites spec gets left in the dust like that. I felt like that, until i decided to go with the crowd and actually found after playing destro for a few weeks i enjoy it ten times better. Affliction kind of seems boring compared to it, although i have it there to use on fights like Yogg etc. |

Though it's nice that the blues is aware of that affliction isn't doing that well atm. I say on Wow.com that GC made a statement on the official forum about this. "We are unlikely to revert the SL or Immolate changes. If Affliction's damage ends up being too low, we would be more likely to address it in other ways." Source: World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums - Revert Changes to AFF plz . Ty Hopefully we will see a buff to affliction in the near future, though it will surely take too long...

I certainly don't see many affliction warlocks about anymore, and it's not suprising. I know people have it as offspec but i don't see many warlocks using that spec throughout an entire raid. Half the bosses in Ulduar go destro, half i go Affliction. Although if i'm perfectly honest, Yogg seems to be the only fight to me that it shines. The rest i just feel nothing but a lag behind. It is a shame, because sometimes when your brain can't handle anymore exciting burst, playing affliction is like a breath of fresh air. I just don't think i could play it as my main spec at the moment, the numbers just aren't there and the fights are getting shorter as we gear up, meaning drain soul ticks are few and far between. Quote:
What i do like is the fact they're both very different to play and i now know i can play both well. Sometimes i like to chill out as affliction on a certain boss, mainly to get shards back i daresay but also because it's a nice relaxing rotation, as i'd played it for so long i just knew it off by heart. But having two very different specs really gives some variety to our class. Just a shame affli just can't keep up. |
