Why would you do that when you get a DS tick instead? |

On a sustained fight, after the initial DoTs are up (and let's face it, the initial rotation only affects the first few seconds so, the details are a few hundred damage in a long fight). I would prioritise COD then haunt, which I would refresh as soon as it's off cooldown*, with the new changes to it's crit, it actually has better DPCT than your filler nuke, shadowbolt unless you have a lot of SP, and it's better to refresh it too much than get unlucky and have corruption fall off. I'd lifetap right after a haunt, unless a tap would actually take you way past full mana and therefore be wasteful. I think I tapping about 1/2 the time as affliction once I'd gotten 3 or 4K down, and then tapping every time if I ran low. After that I'd prioritise UA then shadowbolt as filler. Tapping on a haunt means you'll instantly recover the health. *In theory you want to haunt so that it lands as it is about to fall off (once you have a lot of gear, at lower levels of SP, due to the high base damage and low cast time, haunt is better then shadow bolt, though shadowbolt sneaks ahead at higher levels of SP). However DPS versus shadowbolt aside, in practice all sorts of things come up during your rotation and it's better to refresh ASAP in practice. |

And if there are only 2-3 targets I rape the destro locks in our guild. Lots of the trash pulls in Ulduar are 2-3 targets, not one and not eight. Auriaya, Hodir, Thorim, Ignis.. On a single target destro is very bursty and nice, but the dpct on aff dots makes them very powerful. SB-haunt-corr-Curse of Agony-ua, switch to second add and throw up three dots, move back to the first one and sb spam... by the time the destro lock has moved on to the second target he's usually eating my dust. Then again, I also beat both of the main destruction locks in our guild, both of whom have slightly higher iLvl gear than myself. One of them comes close on single target right up until about the 30% mark. Destro runs out of steam, affliction is a freight train incarnate. No doubt I will now have five people telling me I'm wrong while linking spreadsheet data, won't change my mind.

I should probably go back and change that to "2 sec". But generally, when I'm ready to do Drain Soul, I'm hoping for at least 3-6 sec of drain time. Some of it also depends whether I'm CoE that fight or if I have Curse of Agony up. If I have CoE up, then a DS tick is around 10k (vs a SBolt of 8.5k). Only if I have Curse of Agony up do I see the 12k DS ticks. So if I'm CoE, I'm more likely to toss a SBolt if I only have 2-3 sec before I need to refresh DoTs. (I don't yet use a mod to keep track of DS ticks so I know when they happen and can fine tune beyond trying to drain for as long as possible.) |

Instead of adding another mod, I just set MSBT to alert me of the 25%HP execute and the DS ticks ........... works great! |

Re: Affliction not working?!?!
If any of you are looking for a DS mod, this one is very simple, takes up virtually no memory and can be configured very easily. Will give you an audio and/or visual cue when you reach 25% (or 26% or whatever, it's configurable) and an audio and/or visual cue each time it ticks for damage. Thanks guys for providing additional info on this problem. I tried some of input in a 10-man, but I still feel like I wasn't cutting it. I noticed an increase but its still around 2.5k dps. Is this a stat issue now? I realize that I haven't really had much practice on my rotation to actually get a feel for it. My gear also isn't that great but a good portion of it is Uldaur and ToTC. |
