How is it going? I don't think you should be putting corruption into your rotation, but while on the move and putting up corruption... I think i like it

oh its usually a dps loss for destro to use corruption however atm im over hit cap by enough that this may be viable as an option trialing it atm in ulduar and its fairly impressive... was just wondering if anyone else had looked at it for fight like kolo where you can dot multiple mobs and 'pad the meters' its doing quite well seems to be approx 1% less damage done than the immolate tick damage.

I actually have been running this build for the last month with 4pc T8, and I'm pretty competitive on the charts. Usually number 8, but the other locks in the guild all have 4pc t9 and so do a number of other dps in the guild. If i ever out dps them, I think its more with skill/luck than with build though. I've never noticed a dps loss w/ corruption, and its one of my favorite spells to use.

Its a dps loss to use corruption in your rotation when you aren't moving. Stop using it other then when you are moving and you will find a dps increase i promise you.

Re: Trialing Destro build

yeah throwing stuff like Corr isn't a bad idea at all if you're in a fight with mechanics that either keep you on the move, or could take you off the boss for a period of time.

When my guild took on Jaraxxus I tried to keep up Corr, Immo, and CoD on him when the adds spawned to keep some damage on him and it worked out pretty well. Just an example.

Re: Trialing Destro build

I ran it through simcraft... this spec+corruption is slightly inferior to the 03_13_55 as well as to the 00_13_58 spec.
Furthermore, also 03_13_55+corruption is better than this 05_13_53 spec.

We're talking about differences in the 100 dps region, so it's not really a problem. However it's not better than the default specs, so not really worth discussing. On a sidenote, with this spec you don't have access to the non-dps increasing but still useful talents soul link, 2/2 destr. reach, shadowfury or shadowburn.

When you say you ran it through Simcraft, how did you do that? Did you manually edit the destro scripts to prioritize corruption or add corruption to the script for destro? If so, where did you place corruption in priority?

Not that I don't trust your run of simcraft and 100 DPS loss sounds about right, but more curious.

As a general note on the spec to the original poster:

Talents should ideally be synergistic. Improving a shadow damage spell like corruption makes more sense if there are other talents that are upping your spell power like demo or upping your shadow damage in the affliction tree or if Corruption itself becomes useful to trigger another effect you rely on (eg molten core). Here it's just a talent/spell that is hanging out on it's own -- few to no synergies whatsoever.

I just put Corruption before Incinerate, with time_to_die>=20. Wouldn't make sense elsewhere, since all other spells have a much higher DPET, while incinerate only is somewhat better than corruption in that respect. So, in detail, what I considered, was

00/13/58 default rotation
03/13/55 default rotation
03/13/55 +corruption
05/13/53 +corruption

adding corruption to the 03/13/55 rotation is not a big dps loss, since the DPET's for incinerate and corruption are something around 7700 and 7100 respectively. The dps loss of the 05/13/53 spec vs. the 03/13/55 spec comes from the fact that you need to compensate for the hit rating, vs. the 00/13/58 spec it comes because you need more life taps without ISL.

I used the T9 BiS gear sets. This plays some minor role because corruption can't crit and therefore can't trigger the proc on Reign of the Dead/Unliving.

Re: Trialing Destro build

my rotation goes as: coe (Curse of Agony if unholy dk or dps druid is in raid) immolate, chaos bolt, conflagorate, incinerate x4, corruption, [some other action if need like life tap or flame cap]. rinse repeat. so far this rotation has left me with returning to chaos bolt and conflagorate right when they go off of cd. no, not something like "o, chaos bolt has one sec left on cd. i cast immolate and immeditately cast teh cooldown spells.
