Smile I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

Hello Everyone,

Well I will eat the humble pie and admit that I am definitely a newbie to both
Wow and being a level. 30 Lock (2 weeks now). I previously was a Diablo & Black & White player in and I had a Hunter friend recommend WoW to me so now here I am, and it's great to be here. This is a great site, and the leveling guides have been extremely helpful.

I play mainly solo with my Big Blueberry since my 'Tramp' talks way too much! And I could really use some advise from some of you veterans of the game on the best way to go this way. (I seem to have to run away alot when Big Blue attracts an entire group! LOL) Anybody have any advice on what I should or shouldn't do?

Also, is an affliction build the best way to go when you play solo on PVE? I ask this because I don't do very well in the PvP battles. They just seem to love to take me out first.

Anyhow, any advice at all would be grateful! Thanks!

Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

If you are solo PVEing then you are probably best with demonology. My suggestion spec-wise is this:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent-bc=NZ0gI0hV
This gives Big Blue max agro ability to keep mobs off of you, and the 2 in health funnel will let you heal him. Make sure you have him on defensive mode and not attack mode. It sounds like he's getting off the leash and grabbing guys you don't want him to.
But keep reading these boards. Best tips on any board for any class...

Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

For affliction:

At level 30, you get Drain Life rank 3 and Siphon life, the cornerstones of drain tanking (killing a mob while keeping yourself healed by stealing its life)

-Turn off Soothing Kiss on your Succi's action bar

-Pet attack, Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, Corruption, Lifetap to full, Drain Life till 5% health, then switch to Drain soul.

Talents that help this method of killing:

2/2 Imp drain soul [mana regen]
5/5 Fel Concentration [no interruption]
2/2 Soul Siphon [bonus to drain life]
1/1 Siphon Life [more health returned]
1/5 Shadow Embrace [bonus to drain life]
2/2 Imp Lifetap [more mana returned]

Sample build at level 31: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent-bc=IVMrVMbk

Smile Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

I really appreciate the advice. Thank you. And Gritz, I used your method earlier this morning,

-Pet attack, Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, Corruption, Lifetap to full, Drain Life till 5% health, then switch to Drain soul.

and the poor Murlocks in HH didn't stand a chance at all and I breezed through to level. 31. Big Blue is doing much better to with the better stats that you guys advised me about.

Thanks again for your help, I'm sure I'll have to ask again in the future.

I use Big Blue as well. I was told that my VW would be worthless post level 30 but at 58 he's still my favorite grinding buddy. That may change once I get my final three talent points into Improved Imp but Big Blue is a very underrated companion in my opinion.

Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

I leveled with demonology and loved it. Am affliction now, and you know what? At level 60, I still use my voidwalker all the time while soloing. Send him in for initial aggro, start with some DoTs, once he loses aggro, lifedrain.

Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

The blue guy is still great at 60. I was chain farming with the VW a few nights ago in WPL for AD rep. I like to keep it simple and do a single mob at a time, but link them once I know they're going to die.

Sick VW on 1st mob, 2x Dot, mannatap, lifedrain, then,
Sick VW on 2nd mob, 2x Dot, mannatap, lifedrain, then 1st mob dies by now.
Sick VW on 3rdmob, 2x Dot, mannatap, lifedrain, then 2nd mob dies by now.
etc...

You can do this for about 5-6 mobs before the VW's health is too low, and then its a quick Shadowheal and he's back in business.

Re: I'm So Glad You Guys Are Here!

Blue has been buffed with the new scalling with pets. Hes a better overall tank then the Felguard, he's not DPS as he was never intended to be. With improved Voidwalker his taunt is amazing and hes still king of AoE agro control. Duo'd the Dark Coffer with him me and a Pally.

EDIT: I did that WITHOUT the improved Void talent.
