Dreadsteed still worth it?

Hey Burning crusaders,

I don't have the expansion yet (been abroad for awhile, comin back to the states soon) and I just hit level 60. I'm wondering if the Dreadsteed still is worth the inconvienence of questing for it or if I should start saving up directly for a flying mount. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Sos

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

I just finished mine on Sunday night and I'd say most definitlely YES! As long as you've got another lock with the uber expensive mats then I'd say it's definitely worth it. The pre-req mats are pretty easy to get assuming your servers moderately active.

The hardest part is finding someone that's actually running Scholo anymore

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

An epic ground mount is worth it, but the dreadsteed is a lot of questwork in old instances

Basically the cost difference on my server is about 300 gold between an epic ground mount and the dreadsteed and the major incentive is that you'll save 300 gold on your riding skill. Finding the people to run scholo and dm west (and east if no one has the crescent key) is a test in patience and calling in favors. It's not hard, just tedious and time consuming (I 3 manned both scholo and dm west with a couple level 70s, not hard but you have to convince people to help you).

The horse looks cool but if you don't have friends willing to help you I'd just get a regular epic mount.

For me, not even a question. I feel so proud and badass running around on my flaming horse. Everyone digs them and they are special for warlocks. So take the time when it works for you to get it. Check our thread here for locks with the summoning mats that are willing to help you on your server. Its really worth the effort, IMO.

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

The best way to get a scholo run is to call in favours.....and I have found that it is still fairly easy to get a group to do DM because it is a fight the people rarely get to see (kinda secret lock ritual, lol).

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

Definitely get the dreadsteed, as Outland is quite big to explore without a fast mount. You can solo each step of the chain, but the Scholomance part which requires a small party to first down Rattlegore and then get very close to Ras (but the latter is optional) and most importantly the Dire Maul one. Find a guy like me, who charges a little money to guide fellow locks through the instance to the dreadsteed event. Unfortunately for you, I'm on another server...

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

I believe the question is whether or not it's worth getting the Dreadsteed vs. a normal epic land mount.

The answer is an unequivocal YES! Even if the mats are expensive and you can't find anyone available to share the mats with, it's still worth it. For me, the couple hundred of gold doesn't even matter. You end up with a mount that a lot of people will be envious of and even other locks who didn't bother.

I personally know a few locks on my server that just bought a regular epic mount and let me tell you, I look much more intimidating than them.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. My mail problem is gold at this point, so I'm trying to farm runecloth and sell it on the AH while collecting mats. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: Dreadsteed still worth it?

I'm on the Dreadsteed quest now. My brother told me I'd save hundreds of gold by simply bying the riding skill and the mount. But, since I think the Dreadsteed is more than a mount, I went of to get it, and I've had the most incredible luck with the mats:

3 x Black Dragonscales: 5g @ AH (!!!)
10 x Elixirs of Shadow Power: still waiting for a friend to get the Ghost Mushrooms
6 x Large Brilliant Shards: 4g @ AH (!!!)
25 x Dark Iron Ore: free (another friend)
3 x Arcanite Bars: free (above friend is a miner, I'm an alchemist, too bad about the 23h cooldown though...)

Of course, I did spend the regular fee for the Shadowy Potions and the Xorothian Stardust.

Hopefuly I'll be doing the Imp Delivery quest sometime this week.

As far as farming gold, just get into Outland and start running quests. They hand out gold for quest rewards in there like it is candy.
