So I hit 70. Thought on Flying mount.

So I hit level 70 on Sunday afternoon. I just happen to be right next to Shadowmoon and bought my regular flying mount as fast as humanly possible. Here are my thoughts. Note that this is 'my' opinion.

Riding skill = 800g (not so bad)
Mount = 100g (not bad at all)

I made over 1800g in the last few weeks The Burning Crusade has been out. So spending 900g wasn't a big deal. I opted for the Ebon Gryphon (alliance). Friends of mine thought it looked rather ugly, but I just couldn't see myself buying a mount that looked exaclty like the regular flying gryphons that I see EVERYDAY in this game. The Snow gryphon wasn't too bad of a choices but I opted for something that looked definately different in color.

First the flying mechanics work similar to swimming. You get use to it very fast and its actually rather fun. Pressing the space bar you go straight up. Holding the space bar and pressing W makes you go up and straight forward etc. The liberty of flight is one of the best feelings in the game. It actually feels better than getting a mount at level 40. You know that feeling of running yourself all over the map, the time involved seemed to last forever. You get that first level 40 mount and then all of sudden you grin and can't wait to do more quest to get that epic oh so sexy Dreadsteed. Once you get that bad boy, it feels like you are flying! I digress.

I know I know, you want to hear how ganking works lol. Well its freaking fabulous let me tell you. You can literally hover over your victim and target them. I was surprised at how fast you can spot your victim. Half the time they are not paying attention to what is going on over their head. After all they spent level 1-60 paying attention to whats in front and behind them on a PVP server. Now they have to pay attention to Death from above!

Swooping in for the kill - is rather easy. You swoop in right behind them and dismount in mid air (not too high or you take damage) If you are affliction spec, you can DoT, DoT, iHoT, SB, Immolate etc. It is rather fun. However, as much fun as it is, it has its draw backs. If they spot you and they mount up, they will leave you in the dust on their epic mounts. Yes that sux as the regular flying mounts only go 60%. So they can easily get away which really sux. With an Epic flying mount, there is no escape. They go 280% in the air and can go epic mount speeds on the ground .

But thats not really the cool part of flying. The freedom to just fly upwards and over things is great! I can't explain it any better than that. Had some friends that needed me there ASAP and I was stuck way inside of a mountain area. It would have taken me 10 min at least to get to them, but not with a flying mount. It took me 1 min tops to press space bar and fly out. It felt like a Harrier Jet. I asbolutely love the flying mounts hands down. The freedom of running on the ground with your friends and just flying over any obstacle is priceless. Blizz really did this right.

The epic mount -

Training = 5000g
Mount = 200g

IMO its going to be totally worth it. I have a friend that has his epic flying mount already and I am telling you, it is fast as hell! Can't wait!

SOOOO worth spending the price to go that much faster.. Think Gryphon master mounts from one location to another, but being able to land or change directions when ever you feel like it!! Flying from one location to your destination only taking a maximum of 10-12 min anywhere in Outland

/jealous

Is the speed the same as the gryphon masters? Or is it a bit faster?

Do you have http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25653 (Riding Crop) or other speed increases yet? If so, is it a notable difference?

Info on the riding crop:

it is slighty faster than carrot/spurs/riding speed to gloves. Slightly, as in less than 1%.

It does not stack with any of the above enchants/items

So basically, it saves you 2 bag spots.

Totally worth it imho

Also - you need to purchase the regular flying mount skill (225 if I recall correctly) before you purchase the epic flying mount skill (300 if I recall correctly). The only way to save money is to skip the regular flying mount for a savings of 100g.

PS - Hit 70 with a full quest log for mucho $$$$ when you complete quests @ 70.

Re: So I hit 70. Thought on Flying mount.

I was flying by a Gryphon Master and someone took off, I was flying as fast as the Gryphon Masters mounts and follow behind the player.

As for the riding crop. I have yet to have one made, but I have plans to get one.

Swift Blue Gryphon + Riding Crop = 10% faster than Gryphon Master mounts.

Ebon Gryphon is 60% speed (same as level 40 mount, on ground and air).
Swift Blue Gryphon 270% speed (epic ground mount on land fast as hell in the air)
Gryphon Master's mounts 270% speed.
I won't ever have one of the Netherdrakes, but they go 310% speed.

Flight path wyverrns (and I assume gryphons) fly at 300% to 500% according to titan speed

Still epic speed while flying must be great

Not entirely true, arena tournaments give out Armoured Netherdrakes while the regular netherdrake can be obtained throught a long quest line yet to be implemented as such : http://www-en.curse-gaming.com/games...tion-revealed/

Carry on questing, apart from getting to see the areas you haven't seen yet, you also get double gold now which all helps towards the cost of an epic flying mount ;-)

There is also the arenas if you are interested in PvP?

Got to 70, bought the epic flying mount, made my Frozen shadowcloth set, ground up to revered with Scryers, then got my druid from 60-70. Right now, I'm grinding up my twinkadin, 24 so far.
