Ding 70, But...

Hi,

I will start by saying, im not a hardcore player by any means, it has taken me nearly 2 years to level my 1st and only character to 70, with various breaks playinhg in other games.

Long term I am plan on trying to get into a raiding guild thats raids a couple times a week. While I find some attraction to PvP, this is not my primary concern.

My problem is, im just not sure what I should be doing next. I am aware there are plenty of things to do, but with all the information i find available on the Den, I just don't know where to start!

Until now I have been spending my time online leveling up, and gathering items to level tailoring/enchanting and get my Frozen SW set.

I know I also need to get better gear, a flying mount, and work on my Scryer faction, but what else!? I have heard of "attunements" and read some good guides on doing them, but unfortunatly im not sure what they are for (to gain entry to Kara!? I think....)

Should I be doing these things before applying to join a guild? I know I could of got in a guild a long time ago, but I would like to avoid the whole guild hopping thing (from other game experiences, nothing worse than when an old guildie is looking at you with a different Guild tag above your head), and just join a good guild and stay there.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ding 70, But...

Look at the Lock gearing guide on the Den. Its really helpful to let you know where to focus your attention.

If you dont have an basic flying mount this should be your first proirity in my opinion.

I would say FNW is probably the first gear you need to sort out but while you are doing that you can pick up some much better kit from quests and normal instances.

I would also recommend trying to get on the Heroic dailies as the badge/G rewards are good and its an efficient way of collecting badges, then you can replace your weakest item with a badge reward when you have enough. Some of the heroic drops are not too shabby either.

Hope this helps

Re: Ding 70, But...

I know a lot of guilds require you to be Kara attuned. While this is handy, it is also not possible to do solo, as you need to visit various instances on the way to get the key you need to enter the instance.

My suggestion would be to do as much of the attunement as you can solo, then see if you can join a guild on the back of that, in the hope that they will be able to help you complete the attunement.

The other alternative is pugging the instances, but this can have its definite downsides - I ran the first CoT instance with my guild, save for one player who was not in the guild, and he turned out to be a complete banker. That said, some pugs can be a blast if you get decent players, but that is by no means guaranteed.

My main issue about raiding guilds (from what I have read) is that some of them require you to give up recipes to the guild, which means you have to go to the 'chosen' one to get your things made. Or I have also seen occurrences where mats have to be farmed for the guild and passed over to them when collected. I am all for helping guild mates out, but I will not pass recipes or mats to anyone on demand; if someone did that I would immediately /gquit.

I am sure people are happy to do that, but it is not for me.

You will find that a lot of guilds have a website, so my advice is go and have a look. If what you see does not fit in with what you want, go and look at another until you find what you are looking for.

I guess I was lucky with my guilds - my main was invited to the guild by the person who introduced me to WoW, and the other one I was really lucky to land - I got invited on the strength of a priest rez, but they are a great guild to be a part of!

Happy hunting, and good luck with Kara attunement - to start, you need to go to Karazhan and the first attunement quest giver is outside the front door

Re: Ding 70, But...

Getting attuned is a lengthy process. For the most part, your primary attunement will be kara. To accomplish this, you must do a series of quests that take you through various instances, Shadow Labs, Steam Vaults, and Arcatraz. To even get into Arcatraz, you need to have a flying mount as it is inaccessible via any other means. It is a floating ship, so there are no methods of climbing to the entrance, and warlocks cannot summon in that zone. Also when you do get up to Arcatraz, somebody in your party must have the key to unlock the door. If nobody does, you may need to run a few other quests just to get the arcatraz key. This means doing two other instances.

You will need groups for the first and third instances. Your goal is to go as far into each instance as the key fragments are located. The second instance you can solo with a little work (http://www.wowmb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17365).

Once you have all the fragments, you need to have Medvih join them together. The problem is, Medvih is dead. You can still get to him though, by traveling through the caverns of time, however you can't just go to Medvih's time period, first you must visit Old Hillsbrad and complete that instance. Then you are free to do the Black Morass instance, once that is complete, you can speak with medvih and he will unite your key.

It takes a long time, and there are a great many quest chains you must complete in order to accomplish it, but by getting Kara attuned, you have access to a great instance full of challenges. In my opinion, its well worth it. As your busy doing all these instances, you'll also be gaining rep with various factions which you should be doing anyways, so no time is wasted.

Re: Ding 70, But...

If you just dinged 70 and plan for a raidguild then follow the above posters guide to get Kara-attuned. As a new lock in under-average gear only a Kara/Gruul guild will take you in, not an advanced guild which is going Black temple.

So get your Kara attunement done by joining PuGs for the needed instances and look for the guildnames of your teammembers there. Usually those guilds which just attune their members for Kara are also looking for more people to do Gruul soon. Gruul does not need any attunement.

So try to make some friends while instancing for the attunement, look for guild websites of those guilds you meet there - usually its not hard to find kara-guilds.

Always good to advertize yourself a bit at Application. having usefull recipes for your tradeskills which could help others is good - being honored with all factions for heroic instances should be done by you too. Try to perfect your gear within your limitations, noone expects full T4 when you just want to start Kara, but there are at least many good blue questrewards and you should at least work towards those.

Good luck

Re: Ding 70, But...

It's probably already been said, but a flying mount is your primary concern. With this you can quest quicker, and complete your karazhan attunement. Most karazhan guilds will want you to have completed at least the quest in shadow labyrinth (mainly because people hate going there :> ) The rest is a matter of maybe 2 hrs. (15 min in steam vault, 20 min in arca(needs flying mount), 35 minutes in black morass).

before then you will need a decent assortment of lv 68-70 blue items. If you hand in your app. with solid blue equipment with maybe a couple of epic craftables, enchanted and socketed, you stand a very good chance of getting a ginvite. try pugging with members of guilds you are planning to apply for. If you play well having some people to vouch for you when applying is always a good thing.

as for gearing up, i would make the imbued netherweave stuff, they're firstly blue (which looks better ), and have very good stats on them. they are also very good for skilling tailoring, the robe is orange until 370, yellow until 375.
Otherwise I would get the addon "Atlasloot", and make myself a "shopping list" of items I would like to have. The Dungeon 3 set "Oblivion" is a good place to start, it having warlock specific set bonuses. mechanar and shadow labs both have a good caster sword which drops at the endboss.

As for talents, i see you have dark pact. togather with the first oblivion setbonus you will never go OOM. I would try to get at least 3 talent points into fel concentration, with this you can take on elite quests on your own.

I could go on for ages, but i hope this could help.

Re: Ding 70, But...

Nice info. I was coming here to make a post similar to the OP's. I'm afraid I had no idea I would need a flying mount in order to be attuned for Kara?!
Hmm, I guess I need 900g for this then.
I was then going to ask what equipment I should be aiming for to raise my stats in order to help me raid and perhaps a peek at a talent spec which I should be looking at too.
Any comments are more than welcome!
