Life Afte 70, a roadmap in the making

Hello everyone,

i am currently still working on a post 70 plan. I have been 70 for a few weeks, and have done little constructive stuff. Also i noticed that i seem to have less time online / fun playing with my dearest lock. Even started a small alt.

Now, i have been searching the forum on post 70 threads, and found that many have some ideas and lots have no idea what to do. So i was thinking i would create a good overall plan on things to do after 70.
I do understand there are several parts of the game post 70, so i tought i might aswell devide it into sections, and also suggest how to do it shared.
Aka : PVP, PVE, Professions, Questings, Dailies, etcetera.

Now i am looking at your imput on this, all suggestions and ideas are very much welcome. Please do post Wich part and when.

What i have planned so far :
Of course get the remainder of my quests done, for cash, rep and fun.
Get the gear, step by step.
- Following Canadianpimp's gearlist a little step by step on getting to the ultimate gear.(PVE)

Get the optimal enchants and trinkets where rep is needed
- What rep to get and maybe where / how to get what a lock likes best.

Get the Epic flyer. ( cash from finishing quests help of course )

Dailies.
- A quick and dirty howto where dailies help. More by wich for the faction rep you want to hunt down anyways, Not going to make a full dailie quest guide.

Raiding, dungeoning, pvping - BG AND Arena.
- A short overvieuw on what one can reach / shouldhunt down, what helps.

Again, this way i would hope to make it a little bit clear on what WOW has to offer post 70. What goals one could achieve and how, etcetera.
I will try to make a Shortlist ( with all the options and theyr points and after that i will try and get every part explained )

So, please, post yer toughts here, what goals did you set yourself post 70 ?
First things to come in mind with me where :
- Finish Quests
- Do PVP BG, get gear, maybe do arena.
- Raiding ( i have a raid roadmap handy )
- Get Epic Flyer
- Dungeon yer way the NON raid way, and get optimal PVE gear without raiding.
- Rep : Witch factions to get rep by and why. I will alsio research how to gain it more efficient.

Friendly greetings, and hoping for LOTS of input
p.s. Of course i intend to use as many existing links on this forum, like the great gearing guide from canadian pimp.

A lot of what you can hope to achieve hinges on how much time you have.If you're unavailable in normal evenings, remove "serious raiding", though there are guilds who'll accept people to raid with who can only make raids once or twice a week.

Gearing up to raid to the "optimal pre raid" level is very unecessary imo. You can step into kara with a couple of greens, especially if you're packing some craftables. Here's what I know anyway.

What I'd reccomend

1) Get professions maxed, make any epics that pertain to you and are in reach.
2) Unlock the skettis bombing run and ogri la dailies.
3) Finish old outstanding quests.
4) Get an arena team, lose for a few weeks, but get points, if you have time BG in your spare time.
5) You're ready for easier heroics at the point you're ready for raiding. This is *before* optimal pve gearing, which is good. It's best to pursue several objectives at once. While working on professions, do old quests for money and rep, start an arena team and BG a bit, between the odd level 70 instance run. Once you're mostly blued out, maybe with a rep epic or two to counteract those last greens, hit kara or some easier heroics.

The factions you want depends on the drops and other options. There's better heroic gear available so it's probably easier to just get badges and buy heroic gear. Once your gear starts to improve you'll want to have 2 sets, pve and pvp. When you first start, those gladiator's epics and arena stuff are as good as a rep reward/heroic epic but once you've got some badges saved, some raid drops and a few crafted items you'll find there's better pve items, while your pvp set, now not needing hit gems for raids, will suddenly be resocketed and become even better.

My advice is to work out what you want to do, then not only will you find setting intermediate goals more easy, and doing them more fulfilling, but we can help more.

Re: Life Afte 70, a roadmap in the making

What were my goals?

1) Full set of FSW gear. I had farmed the primals for these from level 65 on so was able to just craft and wear upon dinging 70.

2) Epic Flyer. I dropped enchanting after I had all the dust I would need and picked up mining. I sold everything I mined and started my dailies to work to flyer. Everything else took a back seat to the flyer. I used a bank alt to sell my stuff and no money came back off of her just input and bank till I hit 5k.

2a.) Dailies: This should be much easier now since there are so many more dailies. This is my current order when I do them.

Unlock Ogri'la

Start in Shat and pick up the cooking quest, nagrand quest, maintain the portal quest, sunfury plans quest.
Fly to Thrallmar and go up to the throne to do the two dailies there.
Fly to Terrokar
Go to Sketis and do bombing run and rescue quest.
Go to Nagrand next and do the goggle quest.
Then go to Blades edge and do the bombing/attunement/wrangling/demons series.
Go to Bashir and maintain the portal.
Go to netherstorm and get the sunfury plans.
At some point along the way do the cooking quest.
Fly back to Shat and turn everything in.
Go through the portal and do the Shattered sun area quests.

These days it's pretty fast to get the money needed for the epic. It's just a daily quest grind now.

3) Once I had my epic I focused on being ready for Kara. I went to Kara when I could and worked on cash to by my SS pieces. Bought those and pvped for a dagger, belt, and cuffs. If I had that to do over again wouldn't have bought the belt. Followed Canadian's guide for the last few pieces and then was vastly underwhelmed by the drops in kara 8)

First things to do are Finish quests/ do dailies and get epic mount, just get it and make your life 280% easier.

Don't waste your money on enchants or on craftables, there are a million ways to get powerful items.

Re: Life Afte 70, a roadmap in the making

Like many have said before me, I would work on getting your skills maxed up, open up all the daily quests, and start saving that gold for your epic mount. I know it may be a little early to start going into "preparation mode" for the expansion, but it is still looming in the not so distant future and the primary things that will benefit you the most when Wrath of the Lich King hits are having a lot of gold, epic flying & ground mounts, and maxed out skills (including things like cooking, fishing and first aid). Of course, if you've never experienced any of the level 70 5 mans, Kara, or any BC raids, you can't go wrong in trying to run them because some of these encounters are very interesting and well designed. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to stop playing the game and just farm but I wouldn't kill myself trying to get fully geared and enchanted Just my humble opinion....

Re: Life Afte 70, a roadmap in the making

First i would decide on the major question: "Concentrate on PvE or PvP?", then make the plan depending on the answer.

Of course the PvP folks do also raid and the raiders do also PvP, but it makes sense to set your mind on one main focus as your Talent-build will depend on that and especially at the beginning of your life at 70 you do probably not want to respec 4 times a week for obvious cost-reasons.

So after deciding if the main focus will be PvP or PvE the planning for gear and progress can begin. I would divide it into two sections: Gold and non-Gold.

The "Gold"-section should contain two things:
1) How to make gold
2) What to buy with gold

So as both depends on a players professions he should now set his mind on which professions he wants to have for the endgame. Maybe he is happy with those he already has or wants to change.

Then, depending on those professions he can make a plan on how to get gold....daily quests, mining, herbing, complete normal quests, farming....you named it all already.

After that also make a plan on all BoE items which you want to buy, prioritizing them so you know which items you go for first.

Could be something like:
1) Flying mount
2) Frozen Shadow weave Set
3) Buy rep items for Scyer Rep and get the bloodgem
4) ....

Then there is the "Non-Gold" section which should contain all your goals which can not be bought:

This could be something like "Shatar rep for head enchant" or getting the S1 arena weapon or whatever quest- pvp- or reputation-reward someone wants.

####

When both plans are done it could look a bit like this:

1) Primal Focus PvE
2) Professions Alchemy, Herbing

3) Gold-Plan:
3a) Making Gold: Daily quests Sunwell Offensive (gives money and rep for the Alchemy stone recipe), Herbing BogLords in Zangarmarsch....
3b) Spending gold: Flying mount, Battlecast hood and leg, Alchemy specialization....

4) Non-Gold Plan:
Do PvP for honor and get S1 arena staff, create arena-team and do 10 fights/week for arena-points to get S2 shoulders. Do many instance-runs on Mecha/Bota/Arca for Shatar-rep (head enchant)....

Well, at least i think that organizing yourself before you start doing things helps. Just running instances wihout plan and then getting a good staff-drop just two days after you spent all your honor on the S1-staff would be crappy.....so first make a plan, then start.

But then...i am german, so probably i am just too organized

IMO this is yet more proof of why priorities matter. If you're gonna pvp/solo grind maybe 5 man a bit, then yeah, sure. If you're raiding, it's your responsibility to provide the best results you can. I tended to avoid blue gems and top notch chants till I had items (usually epic) I knew I'd keep for more than a couple of weeks, but I still had enchants and gems. The reason for raiding that this is the case is that, while it's your money, you aren't being forced to raid, but when you raid, you're not working in a vacuum or small group, you're affecting 9, or 25 other people, in "pushing my limits" content, where every little does help. Not only that but it's several hours, and they will have buffed and geared up and pay hefty repairs...

Lastly, a good chant is about the same as going from a blue, to an epic. 40 spell damage on your continuum blade, for example means it's about on par with the blade of wizardy. And continuum blade + mundane chant = 400g ish. The epic BoE however, is a lot more.

However saving for an epic mount is worth while. If you're nailing 3 or 4 dailies (ie you have an hour or less for questing) on a raid night, and 6 or 7 non raid, you'll be about 1-300g up per week. And if you sit down on a saturday and do every daily you can, and then farm, you can make several hundred g extra. If you're not raiding, then an epic mount should move up the list, spend spare time farming for it.

Personally, when I'm looking to gear up I'll normally have 2 plans going or more. I'll have a "chance" one where I need a drop. And something I can run parallel with a nearly as good but guaranteed if I put the time in, upgrade, normally in a scheme where should I get the drop, the reasources from the other plan can be put to use..

For example. Waiting for a new weapon I ground the gladiator's spellblade. If the mindblade or ogre magi blade (prince melchazar and gruul respectively, the ogre magi blade dropped the week after my mindblade) dropped while I farmed, I'd have switched my farming goal to the vinidicator's braces... So I'd not be completely wasting my time.

Re: Life Afte 70, a roadmap in the making

Yeah, i understand one should do it a bitt different depending on choise of afterlife. Raiding and soloing / dungeoning will be quite different in both preperation.

I see ( based on these posts ) that i am thinking in the right direction, and have seen some very nice suggestions, thanks for that.
So,
i will go and think in 3 more seperate directions, please post per direction :
1 - PVP : I think thats pretty clear, Farm honour the way you want it, get honour points, upgrade yer gear, enchant and gem.

2 - Raiding : Get the proper raiding gear ( ench and gem )
