STILL a noob... :(

Hey all and thanx in advance for the (nice) replies I might get.

I've thought about this and honestly I have been scared to post it because of the "if you don't have time to play then go play an arcade game" or "just make time, son" answers that I might see.

Basically, I don't have time to do all the stuff I see other peeps doing. I have really tried to come here and do some research and write everything down that would show me where and when to go get certain equipment, but I always get overwhelmed due to lack of time that i have and the huge wealth of information to look through. Each time I get into the research I just find more things that I have to go search about, even with CP's guide. Actually, ESPECIALLY with CP's guide.

I barely have time to play, and usually the only way I can do raids and instances are when I luck out and logon at the right time to receive an invite. There is also not much I can do with my current state of gear anyway. At least, thats the way other players feel, even though I feel that I'm am always useful.

I just wanna ask if it is possible to maybe ease up on us noobs that don't have a lot of knowledge yet, and not enough time to "just go search the internet for your own answers".
Could there may be a forum for losers like me when we search and don't find anything (like my results searching for what "4pt6" was), where people aren't required to answer - only the ones who are sympathetic would reply, and it might take some time. I recognize that answering questions that may seem redundant to some people is not something everyone has patience for.
Maybe a very nice and patient moderator for that forum?

It would just be nice to be able to search for something and if I come up frustrated, I don't have to be scared to ask the Den for the answer.

I'm not bitching, its just that I am progressing very slowly in the game due to not having time to research each piece of my gear and where to find it and how to obtain it and what items can be a good backup for that piece, and reading boss strats, and looking for pugs because my schedule is not certain so I can't "sign up" on my guilds calendar for raids, etc, etc.

So, yeah, maybe a place to go where, yes, my question MAY have a well known answer that it is hard to believe I missed - but where it can be assumed that I am NOT lazy.

Hope this makes sense I'm terrible at writing.

Honestly, I'm getting the sense that you're putting too much weight on internet and research. Raiding's rough on a busy casual, but you aren't alone there, so don't feel like everyone's raiding Sunwell.

For now, get in all the heroics you can. Keep yourself on LFG for whatever instance sounds fun and you haven't done in a while. Pile up some badges, get your gear that way. Pay attention in instances and you'll get added to people's friends lists, and you'll get invited to more and more stuff.

Anyways. I think 4pt6 refers to the 4 piece bonus from Tier 6 gear. Basically, the set bonus for wearing 4 pieces of Malefic Raiment. For warlocks, Increases the damage dealt by your Shadow Bolt and Incinerate abilities by 6%.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and it never hurts to ask. Sure, on the internet you will more than likely encounter your fair share of assholes to be blunt, but you'll also meet some nice people than genuinely don't mind helping someone out. Hopefully the Den is a place where you can feel comfortable about posting and replying on threads--this isn't the O-Boards or the EJ Boards (brilliant, but snobbish at points as their name implies).

Take what time you have and use it. You will learn far more about the game by playing it than spending time just doing research. When you have a spare moment, look up something that you want to learn about. Pretty soon, it'll all come together. But more importantly, play to enjoy the game. Who cares if you step foot in Sunwell Plateau as long as you enjoy WoW and don't regret the expense. I've met alot of players who have raided their brains out and at the end quit because it was no longer fun for them. Me, the furthest I've gone content wise is a few bosses in SSC and TK and my gear, while ok 7-8 months ago when I stopped playing, is now way behind. I'm having to play catch up so that hopefully a guild can pick me up and I get to see some more content. But in the end, I don't play because I want to be the #1 DPSer or be outfitted in full tier 6 gear. I play because I enjoy the game. That's FAR more important than anything else.

Hope it helps.

Nobody will flame you here if you did a search before & found nothing. There are mostly gentle people at this board which will point you to the right direction & link you some threads where you might find your answers.

...and don't panic about the abbrevations. I don't get all of them, too, even playing since release. ;)

Did you try to improve your progress by using addons like questhelper, mapaddons or similar? They usually help a lot organizing yourself in game or finding quick answers without having to use the internet.
Did you bookmarks the sites where you can find information fast? Item databases? Questline helper? Those nifty tools will greatly speed up your progress even having a small amount of time.

We don't mind if you search and can't find anything - if thats the case I quite often do a search myself to see if there's anything you missed, and I'll definately try to link helpful threads if I can find them (or remember where they are ;p).

There's nothing wrong with asking questions, and really don't worry - we're not going to bring out Ze Hammer when you've clearly taken the time to search for an answer and not been able to find it........it is all very confusing to start with and there's definately an aclimatisation period (as well as a learning curve) to try to get this wealth of information "under your belt".

As Smackereen said, there are a lot of really good add-ons out there to help you with gear evaluation, quests and in-game information that are definatley worth a look and proved invaluable for me while levelling.

I'd be very shocked to see either of those replies on this site. I am probably your biggest sympathizer when it comes to lack of time. Although I knew it was coming, and of course don't regret any of it for a millisecond (Savannah is the best thing I have ever done!), my world has literally turned upside over the past 8 months.

No more being able to get up and play WoW all day long, no more running 3 instances one after the other. Raiding? HA! I can only dream. We have my 'real life' which covers Savannah, cooking, cleaning, the new house (which means a whooooole lotta makin a garden and house 'stuff' every weekend) and everything in between. Then we have The Den, which I love, but does require a fair chunk of my attention to look after, and that doesn't factor in the time I put aside to work on new things for it (by choice of course). + Everything else all equal to getting no where near as much WoW time as I would like.

I would love to be able to raid, it has always been what I enjoy the most, both the little bit I have seen in WoW and the 7 years I did it for in EQ. At #2 is instances, which I could run all day in a good group. And those two places tend to be the best places for loot, so that lucks me out of the drool worthy uber items right there. And I'm playing a Hunter, so I don't even have CP's Gear Guide to help me!

No one who's made a genuine attempt to see if the answers are already here first should feel scared to ask questions here. We (the moderators) have absolutely zero problems with questions being asked, no matter how 'newbish' they are to those with more time, so long as the answers aren't obvious (ie linked from stickies, the front page etc) or asked 10 hundred times.

The World of Warcraft Discussion section of the forum isn't for just 'general chit chat' threads, it's also a place to house the 'doesn't fit under a specific category' questions. If you have a question like what "4pt6" stands for (which for the record, I had no idea what it was either), then by all means, please ask. As you discovered, it didn't show up when you searched for it, so definitely ask.

The only threads that become 'problem' threads are the ones where the user has made no attempt to search what so ever - and we know this because either a) we've seen the same thing asked 5 times this week. Or b) when we do a search for the most obvious word in their question, we immediately get 15 results.

As Theleb said, I too often do a quick search of certain things if I read a question and it rings any alarm bells. As I read every thread here, there are some things that I can think "oh hey, I've seen that recently" only it's under a different word or topic, so I'll do a quick search to see if I can find it.

But regardless of if you're asking about the latest raiding boss or what "RFC" means, this forum is all about helping. From the high end, experienced, has 8 level 70's, to the member who's on their first character ever. Everyone can come here for help, and if anyone tries to tell you (or anyone else) that they should just find time to play or calls you a noob, then the next thing they'll feel is my boot up their behind.

Oh yes, and we so welcome new threads here! With no new threads, this site would die pretty quickly. And just because I was curious, this is the new thread count so far this month.

I'd say it still is skillz, hehe. Sure, you can jump high with Vega or Chun Li, but, I'm waiting with my dragon uppercut.

Re: STILL a noob... :(

I have found that some addons do help immensely; I use CarboniteQuest: WoWInterface Downloads : Quest/Leveling Mods : Carbonite Quest for my questing and map needs almost exclusively (the free version). For information about instances and raid, the Atlas addon is extremely useful: Atlas | World of Warcraft Addons | World of Warcraft @ Curse.com (allows for in-game dungeon/raid maps).

I completely understand where you are coming from in the busy department. I usually cannot even start playing WoW until around 8pm because of dinner, getting the kids to bed, etc...

Nobody here will flame you for being a "n00b", that is not the way we do things. The WoW forums make up for that and then some .

As far as research goes, I agree that you seem to be putting too much emphasis on internet research. Most of the really important things you should know and will learn will be in-game by playing. I look at Thotbott, WoWikki, WowHead, and others quite often, but most of what I know about the game itself is from playing the past 1 1/2 years. There is no substitute for time played/experience. Don't be afraid to ask questions, just make sure you try to find the answer before starting a new thread. We are all happy to help in any way we can.

Re: STILL a noob... :(

Thanx for the great replies everyone, it makes me feel tons better.

To answer some of the advice:

I am a addon expert (to be humble) and have used just about every popular addon at least once since day one starting WoW. I currently have 181 addons and am sitting at 70mbloat. Even going thru each addon once every 2 weeks, I pretty much need every one of them.

Also, I really don't understand how to just play the game without researching at the gear level I am at. I just need to epic out all of my "knick-knack" slots, and I would not have ANY idea where or how to obtain these without using CPs guide. And as I have said, this is where I hit the wall of information.
I think what I need to do is just find out what my guild raids the most, and then looking up that instance on the CP guide and see if the loot table contains something I need. Another problem as you can probably assume is my guild has really fallen of the organization wagon, and so I never know WHAT instance they may be doing and when.

I also saw mentioned gear addons and I will have to admit I don't know of any good ones.

Thanx for all the help guyz and gals!

Herein lies my problem - if I could get INTO heroics I would. I only have keys for a couple places, and its only once in a blue moon that they have a run through the ones I have keys for. So of course badge loot is a bit hard to get for me.
I already pay attention in instances (this isn't my first MMO and this rule is important for all games) and perform really well with my guild even with the gear I have.

Also, LFG is ALWAYS on (all 3 slots) and it hasn't worked yet. Sometimes 1 or 2 people will join, but they just immediately quit if getting a full grp takes too long - which is always. MANY folks including my entire guild have said that LFG is not working correctly right now. I can see what they mean.
