These nerfs are gearing us up for intelligence and spirit based gearing and play style; I'll be playing a glorified mage with DoTs, even if the buffs to compliment these nerfs are awesome it won't make it fun. This isn't balancing a class, it is reworking it.
I dunno. From my point of view (currently raiding as Affliction), things got more interesting. Haunt just looks...wow. Direct Damage, boosting your dots and a big fat heal (i.e. mana) at the end of it. I think the flavour of Affliction's been really enhanced by the new talents, when it could've headed more towards SB spam. Or am I really just being "glass-half-full" guy here?

Re: Spirit. I've seen a couple of Wrath of the Lich King items linked now - it seems Spirit will be as plentiful as Stamina.

And think of the poor mages. They're just locks without DoTs

I agree. Right now Affliction is looking pretty good. 41/0/20-type builds are pretty prime with the new talents and the whole spirit thing isn't all that threatening to me. The only major concern with the changeover is that raiders as well as wearers of badge-loot and craftables will be stuck with gear that has little to no spirit. So much for keeping the prized gear in Wrath of the Lich King....

Demonic Sacrifice is going back to it's former self in the next patch, although it'll be changed slightly. We want Warlocks to gain benefit from using their pets in PvE, not destroying them for buffs. Demonic Sacrafice was originally created for situations where having a pet out wasn't as viable. Today, that situation is/should be coming less frequent. We realize that is because of issues with the pets (mana regeneration, some are too fragile, etc.) which are have/will be addressing.

Tank agro generation has been buffed to compensate, def stance is like 45% more threat.

This message is confusing. DS is reverting but they don't like locks destroying pets for buffs? I don't get it.

Re: WoTLK Closed Beta is out!

I agree, a lot of these nerfs hurt, but let me play glass-is-half-full for a sec:
(a lot of this taken from Warlock - WotlkWiki - Wrath of the Lich King Information)

Soul link, although nerfed, is now available to practically any build, including deep pvp affliction or destruction - you trade 5% damage reduction/boost for a massive amount of utility/dps from one of the other two trees. To compensate for this reduction to survivability and the boost to other classes' dps we get a brand new escape (our first?), demonic circle/teleport. This to me sounds like much more balanced and above all FUN pvp (*hates sl/sl*).

re changes to DS, the rumor I've heard is that it's nerfed to 10% or even 5%. while it breaks the current cookie-cutter endgame raid spec we actually get to go back to being a PET CLASS (omg). The synergy with our pets looks great, and while perhaps other classes will pull ahead a little in DPS we get a much more interesting play style. This to me is a good thing because honestly the pet/dot class doing top dps with no pets or dots is just broken, no other word for it.

The deeper Demo talents look like an offering to our cries of "fix our pets" with the 2pc t5 bonus becoming a talent (FVCKING AYE!) with some extra scaling stirred in. The party-wide (raid-wide? dare I hope) buff from the pet also has my fancy tickled, if we are to be bumped down the meters then this utility is welcome.
There look to be a lot of very interesting viable PvE builds too, instead of just ua (or sm/ruin), fg, ds/destro. We now get ua with ruin, we get deep destro with a pet, we get FG party buffs with (I'm guessing) destro, we get deep demo with imp and fire destro (this looks hot, no pun intended) and perhaps deep demo with succy and a touch of affliction.
The only thing that would ruin it for me is if pets still remain fragile in a raid situation - I'm fine with them taking some damage since we would be able to heal them with out new talent, but a 1-shot imp wouldn't be much fun.

The spirit changes don't bother me either. The homogenization of classes/gear leaves me a bit cold however but I can see the reasons for it. With heavy spirit on all caster gear and the change to fel armour we actually get some in-combat mana regen, less lifetaps to me says more dps. Combine the fel armour change with this little Improved Soul Leech talent: "Your Soul Leech effect also restores mana to you and your summoned demon equal to 15/30% of the damage caused" (can you imagine 30% mana return on a 10k SB!?!) and destro with pet looks VERY exciting. Without the need to take that nasty 21 pt demo talent a deep destro PvE build can include the top tier PvP talents and a touch of affliction, not to mention soul-link.... Still sound like a nerf?

PS I can't wait to see if Chaos Bolt hits through a rogues' CloS and Cheat Death. This would make me a happy warlock.

Savage

sorry mate but its not 30% of a 10k sb, its 30% of the soul leech effect itself atleast according to the tooltip
so the soul leech effect procs then the improved procs of it with a 30% chance.
