WotLK release date: between October and December 2008

Shacknews reported that according to Mike Morhaime (Blizzard Entertainment's CEO), Wrath of the Lich King will be released between October and December 2008.

"We have said that it will be coming out this year," Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime revealed in a conference call today. "I can tell you it's not coming in the July to September quarter."

As for the Wrath of the Lich King beta, Morhaime noted that "testing is going very well." During the call, Morhaime also mentioned that 40% of the World of Warcraft subscribers that left for Age of Conan have since returned.

How about the 14th february, just as The Burning Crusade?

*psst* Is it really 2 years since The Burning Crusade came out? It feels like this february.

October, definitely, perhaps in the end of the month. February or January? 6 months of beta? No way, they would have keeped it in alpha if times were that long..Blizz, apart what so many of you think, is not EA,Mithyc or what you know...

Re: WotLK release date: between October and December 2008

I would estimate a release for the Christmas buying season. Timing can be a large part of marketing if things line up. If the xpac is good to go in say October, I would think they'd hold onto it for a few weeks. Might increase sales by 10-20% and, conversely may prevent sales of competitors games (in some small way). There are also other things consider such as packaging, advertising, etc. After all it's going to hit stores too, it won't be just for download. It won't come out until things line up, so it could possibly take longer.

As an aside, while I am looking forward to new content, I am certainly not looking forward to all the little patches in the next few months to bring the current game closer to the mechanics of Wrath of the Lich King. I surely hate having to screw with my UI all the time. It can take hours, sometimes many many hours to get things back and I suspect that all UIs are going to have to be pretty much totally revamped. I also suspect that many, if not most, current addons may become totally useless.

I put my money on Christmas also, but as we know, Blizzard things tend to delay.

Re: WotLK release date: between October and December 2008

Amazon recently sent out mailers for Warhammer online to be shipped 9/19/08...overall, the beta has been very tame (its simply too much like WoW)...if Myth keep close to this schedule, I would think Blizz would be out within 2 months after regardless of the state of Wrath of the Lich King. They definitely do watch the competition and want to take advantage of the ups and downs...

I agree that they are definitely aware of what their competition is doing, I don't think it influences them all that much.

Is a Christmas release really all that important? BC released in mid-February and was still the quickest selling PC game title ever. For the 9 million or so people playing the game, when it comes out is irrelevant. They will buy it immediately. Would you really wait for someone to buy it for you for Christmas? Its irrelevant.

I agree lol.

Anyone know what date the The Burning Crusade Beta started? Could use that as a rough guide as to how long it takes Blizz to turn around an Expansion from Beta to release...

For legal reasons, Amazons are not allowed to accept preorders on anything without a release date. So if no date is announced they have to make a guess.
