Shamans taking raid spots

My guild is up to mother Sharaz. OUr guild leader wants to do sunwell before the expansion.

He has been making warlocks sit out on raids while we take shamans. REally bad, undergeared , low dps shamans that cause us to wipe on bosses by hitting enrage times.

I just made lock CM and can't think of anyway to get this changed. It makes me sad to see all my locks passed over for totem twisting people that never bought badge gear or raided t5.

Am I being dumb? Will carrying these shamans eventually make me happy when I get heroism and totem of wrath?

I think in expansion totems are raid wide anyway...

Are other people falling over backwards to get elemental and enhancement shamans on board?

EDIT: A title like 'Shamans suk!' has no place here - it makes readers think they are reading an official forums QQ. Your post has some worth reading points - the title should reflect that.

Re: Shamans suk!

Elemental shamans kinda suck atm and there really isnt room for more then one enh shaman in a raid. Resto on the other hand are the most OP pve class in the game and they will make you happy with their mana regen and +damage totems.

Re: Shamans suk!

If you're pushing that hard to do sunwell then it's hurting the raid more than you're gaining by bringing more shamans into the raid. In sunwell you need people who are at least 95% focused and know what they're doing to succeed there. Undergeared and underskilled people will be 10x more of a liability to your raid in sunwell than in black temple.

Yes shamans do boost the raid ability but not in the way you've just described. It would be far better for you guys to take it more slowly and think about what would benefit your raidmore/ allow the shamans to get some more experience before you start taking them on board more fully.

Shamans in small quantities boost raid DPS. However when you say "dropping locks" do you mean all, leaving 1 in or just not running with 6?

Because of synergies a good mix of classes works well. However undergeared players should not be let in on raids which you could not do with their DPS slots empty. Heroic badge gear is easy to get and people with no raid or badge gear will not only be under geared, but inexperienced. No badge gear means few heroics, and little recent raiding.

You need to gear newbies up but if you're on progress runs, then it's not the time to do it.

Re: Shamans suk!

Make an officer-only post about it, bring up the issue and use WWS to prove your point. 600 dps shamans have no place in BT. Hell.. by Mother.. 1000 dps shamans have no place in BT, because with SR gear on, he's right back down to 600. >.<

And if you're not using WWS, I highly recommend that you start. It's a good way to track output, efficiency and who's not pulling their weight. (Say on an archi kill, one mage has twenty decurses and the next mage has like 1 or 2.)

LOL with a 70 of each class I am actually trying to give my shaman to a few friends. I don't see it played at all in the xpac.

Re: Shamans suk!

1 enhance 1 ele shammy is all you need tbh. if you're stacking restoration shammy i can totally understand since the AoE damage in sunwell is bleh.

if you're ditching 6 warlocks for 6 ele shammy then your raid is falling apart cause warlocks > ele shammy.

Really? I was thinking that when shammys get their CC in Wrath of the Lich King, they will be even more prominent.

As far as 6 shammys in a raid supplanting 6 locks, not a good idea. The 700ish health every 2 seconds off the totems (raid wide in Wrath of the Lich King) would be tempting...but never to oust the dps of locks.

Mages...hmm, very tempting.

Re: Shamans suk!

Elemental/Enhancement Shaman, while capable of decent DPS in and of themselves are still a support class - resto are the ones that actually bring a much needed role to raids and even then a CoH priest is virtually as good, if not better.

By all means take one or two to boost melee/caster DPS but don't replace "pure" DPS Classes.

In Wrath of the Lich King with CC, Shaman are going to be very, VERY prominent.

Re: Shamans suk!

Ok i've been looking over the Wrath of the Lich King sites I know of, and I see lots of info for Shammys, but I do not see anything that looks like CC aside from a chance to freeze a target in an ice block for 2 seconds...

What is the Shammy CC?

Nevermind... overlooked the very first spell, Hex... so Shammys get a polymorph of sorts then. Interesting. I was thinking its been a long while since I've been turned into a toad...
