When people cry HAX
I was in Stormwind yesterday after handing in a few quests & repairing etc. & thought I better check the AH 'cause the rogue i am slowly leveling had hit 35 & a gear update might be in order.
I stepped out side the AH & there was a level 27 human warlock there. Ding level 28. Ding level 29. Ding level 30. Ding level 31. This went on as a bigger & bigger crowd gathered. She finally said after she had passed level 51 "Leveling is so tiresome" & logged. I think she hit level 57 before she finally dissapeared. There were a LOT of "how did she do that" questions & then the accusations started-Hax-should be banned-report her etc. ![]() After a while some one said its the recruit-a-friend system. Apparently if you recruit someone & pair with them you gain levels much faster & can somehow "award" experience/levels to the player who recruited you. This is for a preset period. It was quite theatrical & obviously planned by the players who did it. It would probably leave something of a sour taste in a few peoples mouths. I know i was unimpressed to watch a player effectively jump form well below mine to about ready to hit outlands in a few seconds. It also shows that things are not always as they seem. |

Re: When people cry HAX
I was a little surprised when I heard about the newcomer being able to award levels to the recruiter. Basically you can power-level a friend, and then use the gift levels to skip up to 30 levels on an alt. Being able to jump from 28-58 is a pretty big deal.
Of course I've also heard people complain that they are leveling so fast that they can't keep enough income to train skills, much less do anything else. |

You know what? I'm glad they did this, I hope a lot of more people get very angry about these changes. I'll stop myself from ranting...

Re: When people cry HAX
Damn! Why wasn't this available while I was tirelessly and painfully going through the same old levels on my Hunter, desperate just to get the Outlands?! Then again, we have enough people that don't know how to play their class, do we really need more?

Re: When people cry HAX
Hmm...
So powerleveling is illegal. But getting a subscription for a friend to get the 30 levels is okay? Makes me reconsider my twinking business. Like some players, RL money is not my issue at all. After double checking: You have to level the new char (invited) higher than the one that gets the power levels. And you get 1 "free level" for 2 levels you level yourself and have to spend before you ding 60. The free levels don't work beyond 60 either. So you get an invited friend (or you are your own friend) and powerlevel this to 59 you can give 29 levels to the "veteran's" alt. Ideal would probably a level 31 so you can get the max out of it. Very situational indeed. Last edited by neej; August 19, 2008 at 04:06 AM. |

Re: When people cry HAX
I was thinking of creating a second account for a while, first to play 'the other side' on the same server. Now mainly since I have 10 toons (7 playable and 3 bank) and therefore no spot for a DK, so a second account would enable me to make 3 new banks and clear 3 spots on my current account.
This promo would allow me to get passed the levelling faster, but on the other hand this would result in some missed reputation, and the experience of playing a new class, getting to 70 is no accomplishment on it's own, it's the understanding of each talent/skill and it's strengths and weaknesses that make the better level 70. So even for an experienced player it has some downsides, not to speak of the rush-to-70-now-I'm-so-imba boys and girls out there ... I have mixed feelings about this, might drag the average community to a lower level (and it has seen better days as it is today) Love Sita |

Re: When people cry HAX
A lot of people have become bored with their mains and are daunted by the prospect of leveling another character. This is an attempt to keep people playing by giving them a way to quickly level something they may be interested in playing in the new expansion if, for example, they are tired of healing all the time and wish they had a Warlock to play in Wrath of the Lich King.
In the end, Blizz wants money. The more people who have several accounts, or the more friends who are convinced to create new ones, the better it is for Blizz. The more people who are enticed to stay and play instead of canceling a character they are bored with, the better is for Blizz. I think it's mostly a matter of keeping people interested. There are plenty of people who play 1-70 and still have no idea how to play well, and these 30 levels only work before 60 so you still have ~40 levels to play. I don't think it's going to change the skill level you see from people. |

Re: When people cry HAX
I started a newbie druid and referred my wife. The problem with money is very real, and becuase its a trial acc (she isn't sure she'll keep playing) we literaly can't train most of her abilities as a hunter. I am not sure I care much about getting my druid boosted tho, already have one
