i thought in the lore it said that when oh i forget who became the warchief his first order of business was to do away with the shadow console but spared one of them as necessary evil and then they made the first death knights from the bodies of the former shadowconsole leaders so if you think about it the original death knights where resurrected and altered warlocks. unless i got my lore wrong it has been a while since i read it.
