Leveling advice needed
Well Im a level 24 warlock. New to wow. New to everything. Its been pretty good for me. I got tons of gold to expend thx to mining and a little to skinning. Now im questing in Ashen Valley. And so far so good...
Then why do i make this thread?.... Well i already check out almost all the threads in this forum... And i was wondering if i should be doing something that will get me into gold/better equip/tons exp/unknow something that most people think is comon aknoledge and dont think is worth to mention. I mean... I didn't knew about Weapon Mastery and find out by chance... AND even after that i find out by chance TOO that from a diferent Weapon Master i get diferent skills. So what am i missing? Maybe a good quest is pretty good for warlocks my level range? Maybe an item i should defenitevely buy from AH? Im usuing wands... Maybe i should use something else? I don't know... anything you could posibly think of. For intance i know apaently there is a good set made by tailors that is used by level 44 (think is called shadoweave set) o what do you think? when i hit 44 should i buy it? or just power level tailoring? Can i powerlevel it to the point i can make my self that set at level 44? All you could think of to help new starting warlocks (AKA me ) and it may be too small to bring it up in a single thread (AKA tips for a leveling warlock)PS: I doesn't need to be in my level range... but will be in the future Thx for reading ![]() Last edited by Maltyrius; August 25, 2008 at 12:11 PM. |

Re: Is there something i should be doing?
This may sound weird and some may think I am wrong, but here it is.
Don't worry about power leveling. If your singular goal is to achieve level 70 that is wonderful, but what good is level 70 if when you get there you are overwhelmed and become frustrated. Take these levels as they come. Blizzard did a really nice job designing the characters and their quests. WAlmost without noticing they teach you how to use your toon and all the spells and abilities that come with it. If a powerful friend pushes you through those levels you will have NO knowledge about how to use the very abilities for which you have quested! Work hard at leveling! I am not suggesting otherwise. But do it using your characters abilities. Your voidwalker is your most valuable weapon at this moment. As a lock that has made jis way to 70 through a long circuitous route I can say with all knowledge that as soon as I hit 70 (keep in mind I had quest gear not PvP or Epic PvP gear just dropped gear) my guildmates invited me to Kara. I told them I would useless for I had no gear worth a shoot for instance PvE. Their response was "We played with you before you were 70 and gear isnt everything, its also a good understanding of your character" which I had at that time. The big shocker is this: The gear you can buy until you are around 60 won't improve you much over the gear you get from drops as you quest. Certainly not enough to justify the expense. My best piece of armor was my Voidwalker till level 51 then it was my Felguard. Play the game. Learn your character. Quest/grind XP. Before you know it you will be 70 and you will know how to use your character to it's fullest potential! Hope that helps! Whis†le Last edited by Whistle; August 25, 2008 at 09:15 PM. |

Re: Leveling advice needed
Great advice Whistle!
The only gear I would worry about is the 40s Shadoweave set. Its pretty good for the level. Don't worry about power leveling tailoring for it, you should be able to find a tailor to make it for you pretty cheap. When I was leveling my warlock (2nd character), I used this guide: World of Warcraft Guides | Warlock Powerleveling It sums up how I leveled nicely. Of course, it is 2+ years old, and is just a little bit out of date, but it still covers the basics. |

![]() Well im not on my own to be honest. Im (more or less) following the joana's horde guide, but at my own pace. Since i don't know the areas of the game, i use this guide as a baseline of where i should be heading. (i like this guide cos it makes me explore alot of the areas of the game, which is nice for me )To be honest i don't quite understand instances... Aparently i don't need them to level BUT i should be doing some? I know when i enter an instance with my group we are separate from the rest of the world and all the theory. But in practice it seems mobs are way to hard, and i seem to get more loot by my own that with a group of 5 in instances. What do you think? Maybe i have to complete the instance by killing an instance boss? About gear and talents... well im using this guide for talents HERE and i probably gonna end up doing leveling tailor for my FSW set since i probably gonna lack of guild to go raiding. What about reputation? does it matter if i become friends with someone and enemy with another1? I mean at this part of the game (i freak each time it says i raiced my rep with ### for 5 and lowered with $$$ for 25) Thanks for your replies and your time. Keep it up ![]() |

Re: Leveling advice needed
There is a very good leveling guide right here... Crypts Undead Leveling Guide (1-60)
It's not only written for Warlocks, but using it supports this site. |

Re: Leveling advice needed
As im almost as new to the game as you and only got my first toon to 70
and just got my first pvp epics the best advise i can give you is that dont hurry with your leveling and find good people to play with. the game has alot to offer but dont try to take on the world alone. so... get your felguard ready and go explore ![]() |

Re: Leveling advice needed
the advice i have is that if it is your first time with the game, demonology tree is probably easiest to level with, not necessarily as fast as affliction, but since affliction is usually a little more involved you will die a while lot less. also as an engineer and a demo lock i found that i had almost no + spell damage while leveling, instead i had a LOT of stamina, which means you and your pet stay alive longer and you have to eat less. another thing is, you can just bring food with you, lifetap for mana then eat. more bag space that way.

Re: Leveling advice needed
I think everyone's advice is excellent and priceless. I have used the advice here a lot, before I registered.
Anyway while I agree that leveling shouldn't be your only concern (mainly because once you get there your finished;)), some things that I found making my leveling easier is PvP gear. I realize there is a difference between PvE and PvP gear, but even though I mostly PvE, the PvP gear has helped me out a lot. Better armor, better stamina... that helps in the long run. |

Re: Leveling advice needed
PVP vs PVE gear ...
PVP gear is tuned for Player Vs Player. It generally has more stamina, more armor, and some resilience. It will rarely have spell hit, and may have less spell crit, spell haste, but should have approximately the same spell damage. PvE gear is tuned for Player Vs Environment. PvE can mean solo, 5 man dungeons, 10 or 25 man raids. Will have less stamina and armor, but will have more spell hit, crit, haste and should have about the same spell damage. Depends on how you are doing leveling if you want to worry about PvP gear. If you find yourself dieing, you might want to get some. The only problem is you generally need to PvP to get PvP gear, and if you are PvPing, you are not leveling. Leveling as affliction you shouldn't need it. Between Siphon Life and Drain Life, you should have plenty of health. The armor really isn't anything significant. Instances. If you are having fun leveling, don't worry too much about it. The 5 man dungeon (and raids) are called instances because you are in a separate world while you are there. They do it so multiple groups can go into the same dungeon at the same time. If it wasn't instanced, multiple groups in one dungeon would be competing with each other to kill stuff and get to the end. Would be real messy. The best loot is in instances, but only drops off the bosses, with a few small exceptions. There are instances for almost every level range in the game. To successfully run the instance, you generally need 5 people, a tank, a healer, and 3 DPS. The mobs in the instance will all be more powerful, and will award more XP, but only the bosses will drop exceptional loot. If you have a group of friends who are around the same level, try out an instance or two, they are some of the best stuff in the game. If you don't have friends near your level, finding a group may be really tough. You can always ask a level 70 to "run you through" the dungeon. That will get you the loot, but will take a lot of the fun out of it. Do you need to worry about running instances for loot. Not really. Any loot you get from an instance you are going to out-grow in 5-10 levels anyway. Once you hit Outlands, there should be more people around, and you can more easily get groups for instances. Once in Outland, a lot of the gear you get be dramatically better than anything you can find in old world instances. My warlock replaced all his gear, every last piece, before level 64. My hunter, who had been raiding before BC, had exactly one piece of gear that did not get replaced before 70 (shoulders). |
