Well after being completely unimpressed with destruction in my PTR testing (cumbersome much?) I will be speccing affliction since it does respectable damage now and offers superior leveling.

I will probably also trade in my badge/crafted gear and dust off T4 crap since the 2 and 4pc set bonuses rawk

Re: how broken are locks? (extrapolating from ptr)

I'm nowhere near as adept as other respondents and have only recently begun playing wow. I have level'd my main (lock) to lvl40 but am I flogging a dead horse? Am I not understanding the degree to which a level 80 lock will be at a disadvantage? Surely Blizzard is aware of all this uncertainty and concern from players who have been through countless battles and deaths to get their character to maximum level. I'm hoping I'm not taking this thread into another area and if I am, my apologies. However, I would be interested to know of any official feedback on this subject from Blizzard regarding fixing locks for Wrath of the Lich King and whether I would be advised to discard my main for another class.

Re: how broken are locks? (extrapolating from ptr)

may I say that regardless of how broken or unbroken we are, i'm actually very happy with my performance in heroics. i did a SP with a pally 2 hunters (one of them had a sporebat, and didn't understand why it was doing so bad) and a druid. so we had the 2% kings, GoTW and the tree buff. so about 10 minutes in, i get annoyed with my felguard, and switch him out for a felhunter, so i can actually interrupt some of the fears that just wiped out our tank and then us. and suddenly everyone loves me because now they have a buff to spirit and int that they were lacking before. and of course, i got the extra 18~ spelldamage from spirit. also, i hear a lot of people complaining about the new rules with spell damage and spirit. why? i have decent gear and i have about 181 spirit unbuffed, so my fel armor gives me +200 damage. with just my felguard and fel armor on, with a firestone, i have 1588 spellpower. in a raid my demonic pact adds around 170-180 spellpower, so really?

Instant seduce; yes. lovely. of course. Maybe I'm over obsessed with damage meter, but show me a raiding dps who raids without one and I'll show you an underperforming dps. my herioc dps has gone down 25 % since patch in any spec and lol...I really have tried the obvious ones and some bonkers ones. raid dps has been static calm terrace filled with dull coloured weeds in a continent populated by erupting volcanoes of dps belonging to other classes.

I did enjoy void tanking (bugged void) tanking as demo though. insane threat, truly. Felt good to be good at something again and I didn't mind the rubbish dps so much because I was contributing in other ways. bug will be squashed in due course I imagine.

As affliction in heroics... I'm not having much fun. My only choices on the short lived trash are to toss a Corruption and then Shadowbolt spam in hopes that I'll get off an insta-cast SB.

I have a lot more fun on the long-lived trash and the boss mobs.

They need to buff the amount of health that mobs have. It almost feels like instead of taking 30% off the raid bosses, they made every mob have 30% of the health it had before. I think a straightforward doubling of the HP of trash mobs in Heroic dungeons and raids would be about right.

I know I'll get flamed and you'll tell me how inexperienced and unskilled I am but they could cut my locks leg off and I'd still play him, there is no other class in WOW with the exception of Druid that gives anywhere near as much fun and variety as the Warlock. Admitedly I've never done a raid or even been in more than two instances to be honest, but I think I'm probably the average WOW player, I travel mostly alone, occasionally get involved in a decent guild but then it breaks up as the higher levels join raiding guilds and then your back to solo questing. It's much more fun talking to a Felguard or a Voidy than a stupid hunter pet, but that's just my opinion. Roll on Wrath of the Lich King.

No worries Marshan I spent my first forty levels soloing things and loved it. Locks are currently (always?) strong at grinding solo. Demo or affliction, take your pick.

It might be worth trying a proper guild sometime though; there is fun to be had in instances and eventually raids, but I guess you have to be honest with potential guildees about levels of experience. (In my first instance at around 40 I needed everything because I thought the picture of the dice meant roll for it randomly. whoops. I got shouted at eventually . I really must read the manual one day.

Not to get off topic (even though I am going to do just that) but the first run i ever did was through Scarlet Monestary, and I need rolled on a plate head piece. The pug I was in got pretty pist, but after I explained my noob-ness and how I just overlooked that it was plate, they we're cool. Gotta love the first instance.

Re: how broken are locks? (extrapolating from ptr)

WTB DPS - will pay gold

after a one night 3hour clear of SWP ( my first since 3.0) i just wanna re-roll.
In respectable gear T6, i made a whopping 1800DPS on brut. we had fire destro, demo and 2 aff locks. we came 10, 11, 12, 13 on recount, instead of our usual top 5. I think my dps is down from my old destro build a bit. An on brut it was non-stop, no burns for me or anything.....
