Nice post Warpy.

I may have missed it, but did you mention that Spellstone and Firestone may actually be useful now?

Master Spellstone: Use: While applied to target weapon it increases damage dealt by periodic spells by 1% and spell haste rating by 40. Lasts for 1 hour. 5 Charges

Master Firestone: Use: While applied to target weapon it increases damage dealt by direct spells by 1% and spell critical strike rating by 35. Lasts for 1 hour. 5 Charges

Oh, and addons may not be as borked as we fear. Blizz stated they didn't make any major modifications to LUA this time around. Major patches in the past made major changes to the LUA code and that is usually what breaks addons. I wouldn't count on it, but you may be ok, of course depending on the mods you use. YMMV.

Make sure you don't play if you plan to update today because addons like Auctioneer will bork up your chat area with errors. >.<

Cataclysm (Destruction) - Now also increases your chance to hit with Destruction spells by 1% per point.

Was there a post anywhere that says how much Hit Rating we need if we go destruction and have this talent capped?

Master Demonologist (Demonology) - Most effects have been altered.
  • Master Demonologist – Felguard (Demonology) - Now increases all damage by 1/2/3/4/5%, and reduces all damage done to you by 1/2/3/4/5%.
  • Master Demonologist – Imp (Demonology) - Now increases Fire damage by 1/2/3/4/5%, and critical hit chance with Fire spells by 1/2/3/4/5%.
  • Master Demonologist – Succubus (Demonology) - Now increases Shadow damage by 1/2/3/4/5%, and critical hit chance with Shadow spells by 1/2/3/4/5%.
is this on top of the 10% saccrifice? So really we aren't getting 15% -> 10% nerf as we thought?

life tap is a bad dream = c*bonus damage + 300%spirit is the current formula. in english it works out i life tap right now for 1800 mana in live (assume no talent points in lt) now in beta when i first logged on 1150-1200 mana, i have approx 1200 bonus damage un buffed and like 50 spirit.

The guide was based largely on the patch notes, which as stated are incomplete. People are describing a number of undocumented changes.
  • Some of these real, but won't go live
  • Some of them are real and will go live this patch
  • Some of them are real and will go live in a future patch
  • Some of them never were more than rumor
  • Others have been quietly removed from the Test Server, indicating that they will not go live - Chaotic Mind, Potion Sickness, etc.
  • It's also possible that some of the changes described in the patch notes have not been effectively implemented, and will be no good!
Your only certainty is change! As a rule, if the changes in the guide don't currently work on the Public Test Realm, they will not be going live tomorrow.

My source for Fel Armor and the Dark Pact changes is the Test Realm Patch Notes. I'm being conservative and depending on those, never on tooltips because Blizzard doesn't always update them promptly, and there have been so many changes back and forth on the various Beta builds. Of course, patch notes have been wrong before too!

"Curse of Recklessness will no longer prevent Fear effects, only prevent NPCs from fleeing (e.g. at low health)."

"Fel Armor - Now increases your spell damage equal to 30% of your total Spirit"

"Dark Pact: Tooltip updated to be more consistent with other similar effects and now restores 200% mana leeched from your summoned Demon, up from 100%."

Not sure about the status of spell and firestones. I think they will be changed, but not sure if it will be as early as tomorrow.

I also understand that we are no longer hitcapped at +15%, that we can now go to 16% (+15 more hit rating), but as I can find no reliable source (and have been too sluggish to test it myself), I don't want to include that in the guide. By the way, if you are a raider and already close to the hit cap, consider keeping your +hit gear because Soul Shatter is a demonology spell and you don't want to miss with that one!

A number of add-ons are borked even without a new lua because they make assumptions about the game engine that are no longer true. And it's risky to leave outdated add-ons running. Has anyone tested old add-ons on the PTR and figured out which ones are still stable? I understand that Recount is fine, but I haven't tested any others because I'm trying to use as few add-ons as possible.

Sorry, Firepit, Master Demonologist only works when your pet is alive and beside you. The buff vanishes if you sac the pet or let it die.

Talonblood, multiple testers have reported the same problem you have with Life Tap, down to the same numbers. I guess it's been retuned for Wrath of the Lich King gear rather than the stuff we currently wear?
