3.02 Graphics change?

I have noticed that I can see a lot further and my graphics are much improved since 3.02. I am wondering if they were improved or my forced cleaning of addons has freed more memory for graphics. I mostly noticed this in my mote of water farming spot where I can now see almost the entire length of the lake instead of a very short way ahead but I can also tell a difference running around SW.
Anybody else notice this or did my wife just clean my computer screen and not tell me?

Re: 3.02 Graphics change?

Shadows and particle effects, some particle effects got updates. Including environmental ones.

A lot of things, including environmental objects and buildings, cast a proper shadow now (not that pathetic little circle under your toon we had before or the darkened regions where a shadow should be). That's if you have the shadow option turned up. It makes the game look better in my opinon, less cartoonish and more stylized.

About view distance, I don't know. They might have allowed us to see farther.

Yea, view distance's range has been increased by around 75% or something. Can't remember the exact numbers, but it's somewhere around there. To get the same view distance you had pre-patch (with sliders on max), you now only have to set your slider to about 2/3 of the way.

On that note though, framerates in general took a bit of a punch with this patch. I have the view distance slider down to match what it was pre-patch, and shadows off - and still my framerates are lower in raids/battlegrounds. I suspect it's the new spell particle effects, etc. Not that I'm complaining, it looks really good. Just a bit annoying when the framerates jump to about 25fps whenever a mage does an AoE :P

Re: 3.02 Graphics change?

Yea, I turned everything on maxed hopeing that my computer could handle it. Unfortunally, it couldnt and I was sitting around 7-14 fps. It sucks too cause the game was actually looking good. I guess im going to have to wait on my laptop in May.

Re: 3.02 Graphics change?

Shadows made my FPS drops down to 4-7. Shadows turned to lowest was even faster than before.
