What is the new hit cap?
*** Multiple threads merged. Please be aware of dates on posts - see end pages for more up to date information. *** Please see the new thread: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf? With patch 3.0 due out I decided to start figuring out what the new build should look like. But the Cataclysm talent gave me pause. If it increases the chance to hit with destruction spells by 3%, what does that translate into from the good ol' 202? I always thought 1% was equal to about 20 spell hit, but I don't know where I got that or even if its correct. Anyone have any thoughts on this? If I can reduce the spell hit then I just might be able to add some haste/spirit or more damage. Last edited by Akasha; November 22, 2008 at 08:15 PM.. |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
Unknown. Lots of rumors. Since there is no raiding yet, nobody knows for sure. I have heard rumors (no proof) that you only need 9% hit. I have seen posts that theorize you need ~400 spell hit at 80. But no proof. |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
The new hitcap will be 160, that's what we use when one has got a shaman (wrath totem) |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
Spell hit cap at level 80... Solo = 9% = 236 points of spell hit. Solo with Suppression and Cataclysm = 6% = 157 points. Solo with Suppression, Cataclysm and Elemental Shaman = 3% = 79 (with Draenei Shaman is 2% or 53 points) Solo with Suppression, Cataclysm, Elemental Shaman and Moonkin = 0%!!!! Note that there is no more 1% chance to miss. Spell hit capped means no more missed spells. Dont know how it will translate in spells resisted, since they are separating both. |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
I was under the impression, that save for talents, hit cap would not change since it scales by level. I.E. the current 202 hit cap is based on an elite boss mob 3 lvls higher than you.(presumably level 73) @ 0 +hit you have an ~85% chance to hit @ 202 +hit you have a 99% chance to hit Wouldn't it stand to reason that you would be in the same proportions come "end game" in Wrath; thus the required rating would not change? I know I am nearly hit capped, I have a +hit set that sacrafices quite a bit of damage / crit in lieu of +hit. I still have some upgrading to do however, so it is very doable. Stacking even more might be a nightmare... |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
So for the short term, while the 3.0 patch is active and before Wrath of the Lich King, the effective hitcap for destro spells will be 164.2 For all practical purposes it is 164. Allowing me to drop all spell hit gems that I currently have in place. This is not a bad thing methinks. |

*E: nope, I am wrong. just 3 % for affliction and 3% for destro. Going by how things worked at level 70 early raiding, this seems like it may be a pretty big hit to early raiding at 80. maybe itemization will be better though. Just what a good affliction lock always wanted. gear loaded with spirit and hit. It is not going to be World of Warcraft, instead it is going to be more like Bizarro World of Warcraft for awhile, I think. Last edited by badkarma138; August 27, 2008 at 05:15 PM.. |

Re: What is the new hit cap?
Im not on beta servers, but from what i understand, hit is going to be a much smaller stat than we are used to. Starting by the amount we would need for cap (9%). Then we have 3% reduction from talents (that we might not even need). If we add the elemental shaman, the moonkin, the hunter (all of these raid wide buffs/debuffs now), the fact spell hit and melee hit are the same now (hit rating), we will probably end up choosing gear without hit rating. The amount of hit rating available to players in the next expansion, outside gear, is showing a new direction in terms of itemization. At least thats the idea im getting. Some of us are worried about hit rating from gear but honestly, from what ive seen, most of the gear has tons of raw stats (good thing now, since spirit is important, stamina as well of course and Int will be a huge stat in terms of how many spells you can cast. With new spells cost based on a percentage of your max mana pool, before item stats) and a lot of spell power/crit/haste. I haven't seen one item with a lot of hit rating... and its understandable.
