Reasons to be cheerful

Lock's had rough tranistion to Wrath of the Lich King, true; there are however, reasons for us to be cheerful and this thread is *only* intended for happy positive thoughts.

Here's three to begin.

Doomguard :o). Lovely lovely; critting for 1.2k without buffs and we get to keep him (her?) for guaranteed 15 mins in every hour as long as we're in a party and he comes pre-enslaved. The quest chain is fun too, so if you've not got summoning ability yet I'd strongly recommend finding time pre Wrath of the Lich King to do the quest chain.

VW. valid heroic tank now; demo buffs and glyp would take him up to around 15k health - roughly - and even post bug fix, his aggro is acceptable with the demonic empowerment talent.

Once we're over 3k sp damage we'll have the best party spell power buff of any class and it will scale. Demonology will have nice utility in high end raiding (doomguard plus sp power bonus) *and* will bring ok dps (at least) to the raid.

I've accidentally written all about demonology in pve; not intentional, just first thoughts that came to mind.

So....any other feelgood positives about your lock in Wrath of the Lich King?

No QQ pls, no "if only", other threads for that: just happy fluffy thoughts pls.

Re: Reasons to be cheerful

I know everyone harps on the PvP Vulnerabilities of Meta, but I was playing around with it last night in both Outdoor PvP as well as in the Battlegrounds, and didn't get CC'd once. No warlock banishes, no Pally fears, none of it. What I did experience was the pure joy of getting ambushed by 5 alliance when my health was around 50%, hitting Demo form with Immolation, and seeing every single one of those allies drop to just under 50% health before I finally dropped dead. That was powerful.

Additionally, if any of you has ever tried hitting Immolation (while Meta is active ofcourse) and then hitting Hellfire when surrounded by several mobs... It is a thing of beauty. The destruction you cause is simply incredible. I used to call VW sac + Hellfire a nuke going off. This is like that, but on steroids. Good times.

I have seen it first hand. Not as demonology myself, but in an arena match with a Mage friend of mine. Metamorphosis came into play, the other Warlock stood next to us. The match lasted a total of 20 seconds.

We were shocked. With only one thing left to say to eachother: "What... the hell... just happened?"

We now have a creed we go by, when playing arena matches: "Banish the Warlock!"

Re: Reasons to be cheerful

Reasons to be cheerful...

One: Doomguard, yes. Completely agree. Was less than pleased about Hunters being able to get get 2 headed flaming monsters (Corehounds) so I finally did my Doomguard quest chain. Viola, new demon (to me) that scales nicely, has 19k hp from a ritual and is a lot of fun. Popped a ritual in a BG and managed to keep a bunch of Alliance focused on it enough for my team to cap a flag in WSG. Good enough for me.

Two: Initially absolutely horrified with PvP, tried UA/SL, Haunt, Meta, SL/SL variant and finally settled on 0/14/47. At last, destruction is an accessable PvP spec. After a shorter than expected period of adjustment I'm having a lot of fun in BGs again. Getting zerged by 3 or more players ends predictably but 1v1 or 1v2 isn't a foregone conclusion and has put a bit of spark and danger into PvP encounters. I've managed to beat every single available class one on one since going destro, even paladins and mages. Now they might not have been the best players (neither am I), it tells me that no class now is unbeatable to the point of anyone can win as (x) class. I expect things to improve with more crit on my gear, I'm only at around 18% crit since I came from an affliction / Demonology background.

Three: We're now considered underdogs, which is wonderful psychologically. Any success now is down to the player and not winning The Class Lottery.

All in all, yes there has been a period of adjustment. I struggled, as everyone has or still is. Unfortunately, it is sad that when people find some encouragement or success in this time of change there will be some who brand these people liars or unhelpful. I don't know where the clause is for warlocks to complain about being useless until blizzard takes pity on us, nerfs others or boosts us to a formerly glorious position. But we've had enough of those posts. It's demoralising. If your truth is that you're having difficulties, that is fine. Share it in a mature fashion. Don't detract from those that have a slightly different truth or experience in the matter.

I commend this thread as it's far more productive to build from the positives and tackle the negatives in a constructive way. Have some pride warlocks.

Positive fluffy things....

1: 50% + to Crit in Raids = Heaven (thats with the 0/40/21 spec)

2: Fire/Spell Stones Useful now!! << very happy about that.

3: I have to agree with everyone so far that has tried Meta + Hellfire -

it's like an Oh Crap Button that kills everyone instead of just letting you live!

Re: Reasons to be cheerful

- I agree about the doomguard. I brought him to Alterac Valley like I said in another thread...funfunfun!

- The new pet defensive changes. Those are great. I noticed today my succy was CCing the other humanoid mob after me while I killed the one directly hitting me. When I engaged it, she stopped seducing it and started hitting the one I was hitting. I could be wrong, but I don't think she's ever been as smart about it before. Same goes for felguard.

- I like meta for PVP...pre-patch I did aflliction and destro, and kept dying all the time. I admit I'm not the best PVPer, but Meta has allowed me to kill a few warriors. I'm still shocked about that.

- And also, Meta makes you wicked good at AOE...pop meta, pop aura, then either seed of corruption or hellfire depending on the situation. In the necropolis event, I can take on 5+ level 70 regular mobs without dying, solo, and more if I'm in a group with a healer. When doing this solo, I essentially pop meta, loot corpses, drain tank something to get my health up again, wash, rinse, repeat. In dungeons I can AOE the heck out of the elite mobs that run in packs as well, if the healer is keeping an eye on me. (Mad aggro). Since my guild isn't all that experienced, if a tank is about to die in a dungeon, I can also use the taunt ability to try to grab aggro long enough to get them healed.

Dreedstead is STILL the only mount with 20 inch wheels and all the bling that makes other classes try for the special mounts in the game.

Re: Reasons to be cheerful

In AV I love to summon my infernal, pop meta, Immo aura, and then charge into a pack of horde and hellfire. Triple AoE ftw! As long as Im not being focused I can manage to take down a few.
