A question of two magics
Greetings Warlock Den'ers ![]() Before I begin i'll fill in some basic background history on me. I've been on this forum ever since I made my 'current' main, my Blood Elf Warlock (Level 70). I haven't posted much (If at all) as i just don't have much to say. Recently i've just tired of being Horde and my server (Scarshield Legion), due to personal reasons i rerolled on an RP server (Steamwheedle Cartel) and made a Dwarf Hunter. I got him to 70 and currently running him through Northrend (It's so awesome ). I will start to post reguarly on this forum from now on though, finally got time to do so. ![]() Now, on with the show! This is probally a horrible place to ask a question like this, as all of you are warlocks and 'not' priests. I've grown tired of my dwarf, don't get me wrong hunters are great. I play it well and enjoy playing him, but there's something missing. He just doesn't fill the 'void' that my warlock used to (Pun not intended). Now the thing is, I'm not sure on whether to roll a Human Warlock on Steamwheedle or roll a Human Priest. I love both classes personally, i love to heal and i love to DPS. I will in the future level both of them when i get more time, but right now i want to focus on only one of them. The question is, which do i roll? I love raiding, i live for it to be honest. BGs and Arena are also my favorites, i love every aspect of this game (Except leveling proffesions ). Feed-back would be awesome/great/rad whatever you want to call it. ![]() Sarla

Re: A question of two magics
Hi Sarla, welcome to the posting community! (Not that there is anything wrong with not posting mind you). It seems to me that if you like to dps as well as heal that the Priest just might be what you're looking for. It would allow you the flexibility of switching between dealing damage (shadow priest) and healing (holy priest) with just a visit to your trainer. If you spent even more time leveling a Warlock for damage and find yourself wanting to play a healing class it would then require another grind to 80. Best of luck to you!

Re: A question of two magics
Aside from the obvious point of being on a warlock forum asking if you should play a warlock or a priest.. I'll be the first to take the easy way out of this question. Play what you like. I mean that as pick the one that seems to have the most options for your play style and fills the void as you mentioned. Warlocks have a lot of dps to offer as well as a bit of utility. They have the ability to make healthstones which do not share the potion cooldown. Since the recent patch they made spellstones and firestones actually usable and they provide a nice buff to damage at the cost of one shard for 5 charges of the stone. As a lock you have can choose from a few styles of play such as casting a bunch of DoTs on your target(s) and then laughing while they slowly suffer, using your grasp of demonic knowledge to force your minions to do the dirty work for you and even take on their power, or you can simply nuke your targets down in a fury of burst goodness (which is my personal favorite). If you like healing then you obviously wouldn't have that if you were a warlock. Priests have the holy side as well as the shadow side to play in. The discipline tree is a very powerful tree as well. I typically quest with my girlfriend who's main is a holy priest. She is an awesome healer but her dps is now pretty impressive as well. Take a look at some of the talents and abilities of each class and tree. Maybe check out some priest forums on healing or for shadowpriests. Take a look around this forum for warlocks because you won't find a better site for them. Hopefully, whatever choice you make, you'll find the class that works best for you. Re: A question of two magics
Thanks for replies both of you, I expected as much from a great community. The problem with priests is, they are generally expected to main heal/off heal for raids. I know this from experience (Past raids on my elf) that whenever a shadow priest asked to dps for the raid they would get rejected and asked to respec to holy. I've leveled a priest to 42 on my old realm as Shadow spec, I hated the restrictions that Shadowform placed upon you. Shadow simply didnt apply to my playstyle and i only found enjoyment if i wasnt in Shadowform. That in itself would restrict me to quite reduced DPS (Most likely wouldn't get into raids as shadow) and mainly healing . Still deciding on whether to roll the class that i know and love, or roll a different class that is vastly needed by raids / I partially know and love.Edit: Oh and congrats on Moderator status Pern, I love your stories and have seen your posting progress

Re: A question of two magics
I have a warlock and a priest. The priest is a healer. The nice thing about being is healer is that you can pretty much always find a group. It's just plain easier than being a DPS class. For raiding, guilds are always looking for healers. For questing/leveling, you can go shadow to go faster. I did this for awhile, but not anymore. I rarely even use my shield. Give yourself a hot, throw a couple spells on the mob and then wand until dead. Your mana production does pretty well in not stopping you most of the time. You will die a lot in dungeons/raids - but repairs are cheap. If you are good, people will be looking for you to log in and heal them. Never mind the people who don’t know how to play the game. An interesting side of this journey is that there is no dungeon/raid success without a good healer and without a good tank. Good luck on your choice. - Bean Last edited by Beanee70; November 21, 2008 at 05:35 PM.. Reason: font color; non-standard colors are reserved for mods |

Re: A question of two magics
Unlike almost everyone, I love healing. Just the fact of feeling god-like during instances and raids just gives me thrills. It's the same for DPS, I love being one of the guys who worked hard to bring down that boss. Demonic minions? Yes please. The lore of the warlock just appeals to me so much, as does the priest. Then again, i don't know of any "lul i r so imba" lore characters who were priests. I'm leaning towards Warlock at the moment

Re: A question of two magics
I have a Warlock and a Priest - my Priest making it to level 70. I love healing in instances, raids and PvP!! I just hate leveling a Priest. Case in point is my rerolled Priest (Blood Elf - I was a Night Elf), she is level 46 and currently being leveled by my husband as I want to play her in instances, but the thought of leveling her makes me want to drag my nails down a blackboard. For DPS however, I will always turn to my Warlock, Mage or current flame Hunter. To me, when I think of Priest, I will admit I do thing healing. I realise that Shadow Priests can DPS and have nothing against them, but if I am bringing a Priest into a group, I want their healing touch. As you know, that is a common thought amongst players. So, you need to decide which way you want to go. Warlock where you're expected to DPS, or a Priest, where you might want to DPS and be constantly frustrated by 'you must heal' group members. And of course, as a Warlock, you have The Den!

Re: A question of two magics
Akasha you are indeed very lucky to have hubby leveling your priest! (I remember all i did was instances on my old priest since questing with him at low levels was just... ugh ). When you look at a warlock in tier gear, you just think "Damn he/she looks awesome, I hope i don't have to fight him/her". This doesn't really apply to priests, well not to me anyway. When i see a tier geared priest i usually think "Wow, he/she must be a great healer". Bah, if only Warlocks could cast heals

Re: A question of two magics
In all honesty, and this pains me to say: Roll a Druid or Paladin. If you don't want to try tanking, I'd say to roll a Shaman. But in all honesty, I'd go Druid, personally. Hybrids are now buffed to the point (regardless of what Blizz says) that they are able to do any of the three things they can do EXTREMELY disgustingly well. If you really love leveling, I'd say do a Priest (as you'll realize the shortcomings of Shadow and then most likely want to roll a warlock). But if you want to try different roles in raid, then Druid is the way to go. You can heal as effectively as a Priest, you can tank and make ungodly amounts of threat as a bear, you can melee like a rogue as kitty, and you can spec Balance and go all God-Mode on everybody (and still be able to heal 5-mans I might add). PVP-wise, Balance is arguably the most devastating thing there is to anybody BUT a mage or warlock. I'd go Druid man. Everything you could ever want in one class. I personally started one, but Darnassus makes me nauseous and Tauren Kitty form makes me cry. |

Re: A question of two magics
I already have a 70 Paladin, I love tanking also . In all honesty hybrids just arent me, It's annoying having to carry different sets of gear in your bags to efficiently do all those roles. 'Nuff said, Leaning towards Warlock still.
