Re: Server Stability Issues

If blizzard acknowledged it they're well aware that there is a problem. As said above they said something about it. Just because the users don't see anything going on doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Has anyone worked on servers of similar magnitude to tell us about the ease of troubleshooting issues like this?

Re: Server Stability Issues

Garona and Trollbane servers both have the same issues as previously described by Kiralyn on Mal'Ganis server. Last night was really bad we all were frozen for almost a full two minutes and that was the least of the problems. Once it unfroze there was only dead bodies.
I have tried no addons and thus one at a time, even as far as trying different combos. As previously said it is beyond a client based issue. It is global and massive and Kiralyn is right...if there was another choice out there you would see a small exodus to it.
Kudos to Kiralyn!

No I have not but I work in a field were communication can and will solve almost all problems. This is key - communicate with your customer base so that they understand your intentions and efforts. This will defuse most people and allow patience and understanding to rule out.

Well, not as large as Blizz but I have worked on servers within Kodak and Zerox that were globally used. Issues like these can be very hard to track down, is it a DB issue? HDD issue? Network issue? did the Server blow a mem stick? is one of the raid drives clunking? is the nic card dropping bits etc.. etc..

Tracking down performance issues is much like finding a needle in a hay stack, just because you found / resolved one issue does not mean you ficex the entierty of the the problem.

I to get frustrated in game (say a few curse words etc) when I have ~400+ ms, but heck what can yah do... just grin abd bare it, cant lump it the leave for a few hours

Re: Server Stability Issues

Yes, I work on servers for a living, and yes, I understand the multitude of things that can be wrong. My mind does indeed boogle at the thought of scaling that up to an operation the size of blizzards.

But if all I ever had to offer our customers as an update was 'we are aware of the situation and working to resolve it' we wouldn't be long for the world. Interim solutions, band-aid fixes, and expected fix timelines all go out the door, because they have to.

As I've said, the real question at hand is weather or not to talk my entire guild into paying for a xfer to a new realm. That's a significant amount of money when you start to factor in alts. And in general no one is interested in taking a free transfer off to an underpopulated realm. I need more information to try and make a decision thats going to affect the plans and wallet of a large number of people. I don't think that's an insane demand at this point.

The popular ST version is Peridope. People in reck used to have a little pet name for him; Perri. And ask him about his friend he rolled hunter with, Amethyst. They had the whole semi-precious gem thing going. It's cute.
