Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
Incoming rant so hunker down. I have played wow from around 6 months after the game came out. I have raided from MC-Ony & starting BWL at 60, through Kara at 70 to most of the way through MH/BT, I'm at Naxx 10/25, normal & heroic OS. I do feel this gives me something of a history in the game. I'm not the fastest leveler & I don't spam trade "LFG anything"so I don't go on all the runs that are going. All classes have ups & downs & this will continue as long as the game goes on being developed-a friend used the "squeeky wheel" analogy the other day when asked how he thought Blizz. worked on developing classes & I must say it seems like the case to me as well. The spam SB & SoC for the win in BC was boring but they were the tools we had to use then & i do like the changes that have given us more options- I have 2 level 80 warlocks & both are specced somewhat differently so I can compare how the different speccs perform. I don't see a major problem with PvE content. I started on a PvP server as that was where my RL friends were & leveled 2 toons to 60 in "classic" wow- a pally (when they were very underpowered) & a warlock. I got ganked & camped etc. on both toons & learned along the way until at 60 I wasn't worried by really any other class-at 60 I used to hunt rogues & they used to hunt warlocks & we both had a ball trying to see who would win. I would use fear but the number of times the victim was feared into a corner & i could blast them down was so rare that I could probably count it on 1 hand-the number of times they ran out of range is uncountable-the chase for the feared victim began!!! lol Along comes Burning Crusade & we get new & better tools to work with but something was lost-Stuns & CC became the norm & then the infamous "stunlock 'till death" which has persisted to the present day. NERF FEAR was screamed by all- "I hate being feared & I loose control of my character & there is nothing I can do" What else is stunlock but a loss of control of your character? Now there are so many ways out of fear with trinkets & imunities that its simply not worth the cast-unless it is to "fake" cast an opponent. A guildy has a rogue that he loves doing BG with- He has 2 accounts & just /followed his 80 hunter as he cleared instances etc to level up simply so he could do BG & he uses the "stunlock" to kill almost any player he likes. In both Classic & BC we had much higher stamina so we could "tank" our opponent-be it an NPC or another player in PVP-while our dots did their work. I don't know if this was intended on the part of the Devs. but thats the way it worked. Now we have a situation with the homoginisation of gear that we don't have the health pool & with the "ineffectiveness" of fear are at an even greater disadvantage when it comes to a pvp situation. I have moved Elricc to a PvE server as I am tired of trying to do something- be it dailies or farm mats for raids etc. & have anyone who feels like it come along & do as they please because the warlock as they are now are a free HK.

Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
I'm loving my warlock at the moment. I do all my questing/farming/etc in pvp gear/pvp spec and change into PVE gear/spec for raids only. Im rarely the victim and now a days im usually the instigator If you find you are getting ganked in the world, do some BG's and buy some Pvp gear. Get that resilience up to 200-300 and you will see a big difference in your survivability, get it to 600+ and you will be very hard to kill. Im running this spec for pvp http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warl...0&version=9614 |

Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
The only real problem with warlocks is that with poor gear we tend to be weaker in pve and pvp than people at the same gear level. By the time we have some decent gear, a few epics and some practice we're good at whatever field we choose. That said everyone has a rogue alt on pvp servers so blizz are doing something wrong. I've found myself to be quite effective in all forms of pvp in warlocks present state, however my pvp gear is mostly hateful with some deadly and a few of the better t7.5 drops. Destro is amazingly fun at BOOM FWOOSH. There is one HUGE warlock niggle. Soul link. You have it and can pvp effectively or don't and can't. That's very broken. |

Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
Actually, in terms of PVP, yes, we were meant to be tanking casters. I remember it was a blue post that admitted they designed us so we are able to "tank" the incoming damage. In that same post, though, they also said they don't like it anymore---which explains the recent change of direction. The Demonic Circle is their first step in steering warlocks away from being a cloth tank. |

Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
Another VERY fustrated lock post inc...... -_- so there was an epic QQ tread on offical forums, numerous other posts on other forums inc this one about how bad locks were at pvp..so blizz...to ''keep us happy' promised us some good changes that we all waited for very excitedly.. 3.1 came....What did they give us...NERF to affliction, NERF to fear, NERF to pet (void) HP after buffing it..and in return.....a lame 6% talent which suposedly fixes us. We ive stuck at it all though 3.0...building up gear praying that 3.1 made us viable in arena and pvp again but ive had enough.... 800 resi, 31% damage reduction and i still get 3 shotted by rogues, warriors and now palas......and not to mention DK's who can just kill you during their silence and immunity 'spells'. I know im not the only one thinking this, yes there are some VERY sucessful locks out there but it doesnt speak for the majority who just want to play arena and pvp for fun, even if its not to get gladiator every season, but feel that, with skill and practice and a good partner, we can reach something.. But now ive just given up, its not fun getting slaughtered by melee classes all the time or for my healer to attempt to heal though the damage i taking, which is all i face in 90% or arena...i dont like world of melee craft anymore.... so my point.....ive done what i never said i would do.....rerolled a rogue..only 30 more levels to go, maybe that will give me some satifaction in pvp ( look at sk top 100 and lol at how many rogues)..... tbh thank god locks are not as FAIL in raids =) Last edited by McColgan; May 10, 2009 at 09:04 AM.. |

Re: Pretty frustrated on Blizz dev
Volki, I hadn't made it clear, but I'm not complaining about PVE - that and soloing are perfect for a warlock. You say that you can take out rogues with 600 resilience - can you shed me some light as how you do it? Like McColgan says, 800+ resil and we're still killed within a stunlock. I would really like some effective advice. Figgs, you're right on that part, but after the implementation of the Demoport blizz says we're going back to caster tank. Then supposedly we're fine because they never once replied (excluding vague pointless posts) to our threads of PVP concerns. I suppose Koraa is behind GC's back...
