New Poll: Chinese ban gold farming, good or bad?

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the forum, but I found it interesting. It is from a few days ago..

China bans gold farming

I personally like the decision, I think buying gold in a video game is absurd and does not benefit the gameplay at all. The reasons are endless, but mostly I feel this way because I believe that if I am working hard to obtain something, then everyone else should do the same, not just buy gold to get the mount I did dailies for a month to obtain.

So, how do we feel about this? Is it good or bad? Sound off, Den members!

It's a good thing. Not because I mind somebody paying for in-game gold or items, but because of the industry that supports it... and that means hacking/phishing/cheating. Many of these gold seller sites get the gold through account theft, and that is most definately a bad thing. Remove the gold sellers and you remove a lot of the account theft with it.

Re: Poll: Chinese ban gold farming, good or bad?

if blizz really wants to make money they should sell their own gold and it just charges to your account... or do they do that? i don't know. never looking into it. i am just sick of seeing the trade channel littered with gold spammers. my biggest problem with it is that i am trying to advertise my professions or asking for a PUG group, or something and i type it out and it looks all organized and professional and i enter to post it... it shows up on the chat window for .01 seconds and the channel is the spammed with gold advertisements and my advertisement is totally gone. they should have a seperate channel just for gold spammers that way we can just close it out and ignore it.

other than that people can buy gold all they want. that don't bother me. the gold selling advertising is my only problem.

Too bad, but I guess it is not a huge surprise.

Re: Poll: Chinese ban gold farming, good or bad?

I have no issues with gold farmers wanting my real money while I'm playing a game that I send real money to Blizzard as well.

Blizzards business interest lies in me (through various game mechanics) to keep paying them every month for as many years as they possibly can. Gold farmers usurp the optimal amount they can get from me.

Gold farmers obviously tap into a demand. Sadly, since it has not been condoned by Blizzard (given their fear of long term lost revenues), there can not get generated a "safe and legitimate" place to buy WoW currency.

Blizzard should work out a gold option as part of their system, which would be safe for their customers thereby destroying the keylogging hackers within the gold farming industry.

Will they? Never. They are correct to be afraid of lost revenue. Grinding is the financial backbone of any successful MMORPG.

Unfortunately, the hackers would just find other ways of doing what they do.

Pretty much this.
I can make enough gold to buy what I need right now in week or two.
There is nothing I need right now to make this game more enjoyable so I doubt I would ever buy gold.

I cannot stand the spamming or people whispering that garbage to me though.
