guild starting over... LF advice
So over the past two weeks my guild (Flawless Victory) has pretty much fallen apart... and I'm in charge now. The guild leader before me (was main tank) is joining the Air Force and his wife (main heals) left for a more advanced guild and took a bunch of players with her. Does anyone have any advice on how to recruit good but still casual players? Does anyone have any toons on Rexxar (US) looking for a guild? What rules do you think are most fair? I'm open to all advice. |

How many people do you still have in your guild? I'm on Rexxar with a casual raiding guild who had downed yogg, but we can barely get 10 on raid nights. If there is a small core, i can set you up with our officers to talk about coming over. |

I appreciate the offers, but I don't want to completely dissolve our guild. Right now we have 25+ members but I've really only seen a couple of us on regularly. I wouldn't be averse to maybe setting up a relationship with another guild though where we could possibly help each other out. I do like the group we have and I'd feel horribly about abandoning them. |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
Do Not start recruiting everybody and their brother ............. I hate guilds who have 200 members overnight. Just be selective, and start with a core 10man who kicks *** and go from there with a 25 man in mind. |

^ That. The guild im in currently has a core group of 10-25 people that are "good" whereas the rest are definitely subpar. Our 25 man uld is very frustrating to me, since people seem to not know how not to get flash frozen =/. So stick with good players, and get them slowly. Don't recruit any 80 that is "geared" since most of it can come from lucky pugs that they get carried through. Last edited by Lycurgus; August 02, 2009 at 12:27 AM.. |

I totally agree with Lycurgus on this. Don't recruit people just by the look of their gear. As an example I was pugging the daily hc in Nexus yesterday with a 25man-raidgeared group. I thought it would be easy but I've never been in a worse group ever I think...

However, we didn't exactly fall apart, just that previous leadership issues had driven away a chunk of people. When I took over the guild with some other people, we had about a Kara and a half team. In the end, with Wrath of the Lich King so close and so many of us wanting to see more content, we opted to merge with another guild and then used that to start up Gruuls/Mag and eventually TK/SSC. The basic agreement of the merger (because we were a relatively equal merger) is that we would go over to the new guild but I would take over the new guild (a show of faith on both sides) as GM but otherwise essentially equal leadership. Out of merging we also had a better officer pool. Not all players are cut out to be officers and this was a weakness on both our guilds where you usually want about 5 solid officers to keep a 25man raiding guild (albeit casual) going, but we each had maybe 2-3. That guild is still going well as a casual guild. I left it 4 months ago after being part of a group of people who steadily wanted to push more hard core, and then I woke up to the realization that I shouldn't be pushing my guild to be hard core as I wanted to be, since that wasn't the culture of the guild - it was me that had changed and needed to move on and give the reins to someone who valued the casual nature more. Mergers can be quite difficult. A lot of friends had warned me not to merge and that it would be a huge mistake. But I think they way we handled it, it was the best thing for us and the guildies and except for 1 person, everyone moved, and we had a very high retention rate post-merger. I don't think a single guildie on either side left in the subsequent month and we had a lot return who had left under previous leadership. If we hadn't merged, we'd never have gotten as far as we did, we'd never have met some really good new friends in the new guild, etc. Anyway, kudos to you for rebuilding your guild. But a couple people online at a given time certainly seems like you are essentially building the guild from scratch. That is going to be a tall order. Personally I found running an existing guild to already be a huge handful, I can't imagine starting up recruitment from scratch. Good luck! |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
haha, maybe I should warn all flawless victory guilds out there... Right now my biggest issue is finding players without guilds and I don't really feel right poaching players. I don't mind taking on new people if they are willing to learn their classes but right now we just need more people =D We have 27 people I think but most of us are older (25+ with a few 19+) and we all have jobs and other RL issues to contend with. I think that is the biggest issue with people in the guild being on. I'd love to get a more regular crew but also keep that more mature mentality we currently have. Haha, if anyone here has any alts they wanna join with =D you are all welcome as den members. |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
Our guild over at Moon Guard is sorta similar. A casual-friendly guild of folks who roleplay and raid. We do mostly 10-man encounters. We are very strict about recruitment, with a 2-4 week probationary period. We have a minimum age limit, you have to fill out an application on the guild website, and our officers review the apps. If you smell like drama in the app, you won't get an invite. If you cause drama during the probationary period, you'll be asked to leave before the probationary period is up. We don't care if you're God's gift to raiding or roleplay, play nicely or get the boot (after a warning or two). (Drama being defined as - attention whore, extra needy, does not play well with others, too demanding or brash, clashes with others, etc. ) What we've ended up with is a guild that can field (2) 10-man teams into Ulduar most weeks, that holds a weekly meeting (in character), with some other folks heading up RP events. Most of us are in our 30s/40s/50s (we have a small contingent of under-30 folks), usually with kids, jobs, and other RL obligations. |
