Re: guild starting over... LF advice
As guild leader, always being decisive is better than always being right (usually). |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
If I were you what I would do if using what you have left do PuG's. I know I know just bare with me. So if you have 6 definite raiders, PuG 4 people and run with them. If they are good say "hey we are building our guild would you like to join and work with us" Move on to 25 mans and at the end of the night/fail/completion whatever say "hey this raid was hosted by 'Flawless Victory' we are trying to come back as a casual raiding guild feel free to join us again at blah blah blah or feel free to hit me up with a tell if you would like to join' This way you can see first hand how certain people play. I've been having an issue with guilds lately and can't find a good one to raid with so I've been jumping around (and leveling another toon). I know that I've done a few PuG's and been invited. That's just an idea, but people so far are right I know the major guilds on my servers end up making a webpage (if not on guildlaunch.com some other website) and have members apply so you find out a little about them can check out their gear and the uber guilds will either let you join under a trial basis or run something with you to see your play style (well that's how it used to be anyway). That's just my suggestion. I would def not sit in trade however like it's been mentioned and spam "we are uber guild plz join we have a talbard cuz I'm awesome and took the time to make one, plus I also took the time and consideration to purchase 4 bank tabs for officers to use. Plz join I'm desperate and was annoying people even tho we only want mature ppls kthx." :-p Good luck buddy! |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
Number 1 Rule of managing a club/bar/etc: Always keep a line. Because a club with a line outside is always the one people want to get into, even if the bouncer is straight up told to keep people outside while the club inside is not full yet. I'd say that this mentality would work with a guild as well. Any guild worth getting into (well, for my tastes - AKA raiding) requires an application. So I'd suggest creating some sort of enterance process. It depends on what you want the guild to become, but if you want to be a somewhat serious raiding guild, then I'd start with requiring an application to be filled out... And then once you get a core group of raiders, start trial-ing people before their acceptance. |

I would do it in a targetted fashion though. Limit yourself to a couple shoutouts in a single evening, and do it within the hour or two your normal expected raid times would be. eg if you raid at 8pm, maybe do a guild recruit shout at 7:30pm and another one at 7pm. That way it is more likely that someone who responds will do so who is on when you have your raid nights, you aren't really annoying a lot of people with constant spamming, and you stand a chance at getting people to know you guys. I've never minded seeing a well thought out, targetted trade chat message about guild recruitment (although I don't use that venue myself), it's really only the one like your example (we can haz bank tabs, guild tabard etc) that's more annoying to see. |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
Start by looking for dedicated PUGS. Get raids together then once you find someone who is good but may not beready to join the guild recruit them as a dedicated Pugger. Treat them well and gradually woo them over. By asking them to raids whenever possible and being generous w/loot will at least fill out the raid roster w/ someone that is enjoyable to raid w/. They, in-turn, will send more good folks over to your guild. Spamming trade is a sure fire way to a headache. |

Re: guild starting over... LF advice
Sadly we are building from the basement up... so I think a few of these methods might not really work. I know the rule of keeping a line. That is an old marketing trick with many other uses. My issue is that right now we have myself and maybe 2 or 3 others who are actually active with 80's. I think the guild is full of alts from past and present members. I've been keeping an eye on whch toons are being played and how often and I've been demoting toons that haven't been used in 10 days or so. I've tried pugging with people but it's not often that I find people either not in a guild or willing to switch over. I do sort of like the application idea however I kind of feel like I'd be letting people down. I know that if I had to fill out an application to get into a guild with only 3-4 active members I'd be a little upset. I can't help but feel that others would be a little irritated as well. Currently I am trying to help lower level toons in the guild hit 80 so we can have more running raids but until I get a more solid core base of players I feel a little stuck. I've considered doing a grassroots thing where I level my shammy alt and try to recruit low level toons in the hopes that they stay and become good/better with time. This is of course a long term thing but it seems the most viable. Keep the advice flowing though, I appreciate it and it's definitely giving me some ideas. ... now to figure out where to set up a secure guild website.... Quote:

The stand-up people who are willing to perform under pressure will be the active forum participants and regular raid contributors that you are looking for. If you guys are serious about raiding (meaning it's not a social thing) but based around performance, I just started a new guild with a group of others, and we are currently still over-recruiting. Otherwise, you will end up with half your guild's friends and find out that 3 of them are keyboard-turners who log in and expect to be carried through everything. I highly recommend utilizing Wowmatcher | Warcraft Player and Guild Recruitment And not only that, but combing through the recruitment forums and rolling level 1 alts to talk to people is far more effective than anything else. I wish you luck. And make sure, above all else, that you are up-front regarding what direction you are taking the guild. It will dictate what kind of players you get. |

If you're not picky about applicants now, when you're small, then it will be too late later on to start being picky. |
