The Warlocks Guide to Evil and enhancing your diabolical experience

Greetings fellow warlocks! Today we will go over some things YOU can do to add some more evil to your Warlock experience with some delightful addons and macros that will make other classes shiver in terror, and turn green with envy. Warlocks have always been inherently evil. We are not nobel warriors, or champions of the light by any means. No, we are pure evil itself, we just find it amusing to fight alonside the good guys (mostly for our own gain ofcourse)

There are many things you can do using addons and macros that can make playing your warlock much more enjoyable

Let's begin with addons
-If you are not sure how to install addons into your World of Warcraft, check out the help guide post here - {link}

I'm going to focus on two major addons today, and ways that you can customize them for some more warlock flare.

The first and probably most famous, is Necrosis. This is the quintessential warlock addon that no warlock should be without. It has so many things that make your life easier, but I'm just going to focus on the cosmetic stuff. One of the nice features in Necrosis is the Random Speech option.

What this basically does is makes you post some flavour text into whatever channel you're in, ie: /say, /party, /raid. You can have short or long messages, and choose which things activate them, such as spells, dreadsteed, and or demon summons. The nice thing about this mod is it's easy to use and comes with several pre made text, but also allows you to customize it an add your own. It can't be found in the addon menu anywhere, but all you have to do is open the speech.LUA file for your appropriate language (for english, it will be Speech-en.LUA) You can open this file in any standard text editor, such as wordpad or notepad. From there you can edit the saying, or add some of your own. Just be sure to copy the format of the blocks, and change the numbers appropriately.

You can edit and add as many as you want to the list, and the mod will automatically choose one of your sayings at random when casting that spell/summon, ect.My personal favourite is
Quote:
<pet>! Shut up and get over here, there is work to be done!
for summoning my Imp You can use <pet>, <target>, and <emote> variables. <emote> works like a /me command, and will display as such when played.

--------------------------------------

Now, let's continue to the second addon I recommend for a better warlock experience, Power Auras Classic This one not only has some great customization for visuals, but also has great gameplay functionality as well. The basic design of the mod is to display a visual que on screen when you gain specific buffs or enter trance states.

As you can see, there are several options to customize the reaction. You simply enter the buff name, and go from there. You can choose what texture from a wide variety of pre sets, colours, size, position, starting and ending animations. You can even add sounds. It's a very diverse and customizable mod. While the effects are not shown for anyone else, you get to enjoy this one on your screen. I won't go to far into detail of the things you can do, you can explore that yourself with your creative side. Here are some examples of my uses though.

This displays when the lightweave embroidery in my cloak procs, letting me know I have addition spellpower and I should try to capitalize on it.

This one lets me know that Lightweave is up, as well as the 4 piece bonus from my Tier 7. I also have a red glow aura on my character, which I've set to connect to my trinket usage. All of these not only add much more visual flare to my screen, but help me to know when any or all of my buffs are up. Basically, when my screen looks like this, I am outputing at maximum spellpower, and should capitalize as best as possible for the duration.

---------------------------------

Let's shift gears now, and talk about some things you can do to customize your warlock without the use of addons. Much of this can be done with macros, and I'm going to share some personal flavour macros I have and use for you today.

Green Fire
-Impossible you say? Well yes, it is. Your spells will not be shooting green flames until Blizzard implements it. You can pretend though, by creating custom cast macros with green fire icons.

Spells like Immolate have their icon recycled quite a bit. When choosing an icon your your desired macro, you can find a green version of most of the warlock spells like this, and if not, something that resembles it very closely. (In some cases, you may find a more interesting icon, even better!) To make a macro like this, enter this

Quote:
#showtooltip Immolate(rank 11)
/cast Immolate(Rank 11)
Make sure to include the spell rank, or you'll be casting rank 1 by default. The #showtooltip is just to let the game show the proper spell tooltip when hovering over the icon with your mouse when it's in an action bar. If you don't want the name of your macro showing, just press the space bar in the name field. You can name all your macros the same if you want, so don't worry about cloning the same one with the space name.

I've used this customization on all my fire spells, incinerate, conflagrate, even rain of fire. It's not quite green fire, but it'll do until Blizzard fixes that.

Emote Macros
-Another type of macro you can set up is /say and /me macros. These post some clever witty text you input when casting that spell. I personally recommend the following Fear and Drain Soul ones.

Quote:
#showtooltip Fear(Rank 3)
/me coldly stares into %t's eyes
/cast Fear(Rank 3)
- note, the %t variable will auto insert the name of your target! Perfect for pvp
Quote:
#showtooltip Drain Soul(Rank 6)
/say Your Soul... Give it to me!
/cast Drain Soul(Rank 6)
You can set this up for any spell in your book, and really have some fun. Be as frightening, or as funny as you want. I've got a demonic circle teleport macro that does a /me emote every time I teleport.
Quote:
#showtooltip Demonic Circle: Teleport
/me dissapears! POOF!
/cast Demonic Circle: Teleport
The possibilities for evil and laughter are endless!

Now go out into the world (of warcraft) and be proud that you are a Warlock.

Feel free to post some of your own macros and customizations. I'd love to compile a list of great quotes to add.
------------------------------------

Here are some ideas to get you going!

Soulstone cast

"Here, %t, have a life, you clearly need one."
"Fire danger: high. Soulstoning %t."
"Soulstoning %t. ARCHSURGEON'S WARNING: Soulstones contain puppy hearts, and are linked to ghoul fever in laboratory tests."
"According to my Failometer, %t has a high chance of dying in the next half hour."
"%t, this soulstone is just my way of saying I don't trust you."
"Don't worry %t, your soul is in good hands... mine"
"%t has one free death. Offer only valid for 30 minutes"

Summoning Stone

"Using my Awesome Warlock powers to make a summoning stone for the slackers, click the portal."
"Quickly! Click on this portal before any Demons escape from hell through it!"

Soulwell

"Take a soul, any soul! They're delicious, I promise..."
"Mmmm... tastey souls. That one smells like a Gnome!" - Disclaimer: I'm an undead warlock, and all you gnomes are very tasty to me. Deal with it

DrkSnpr14, I was under the impression that macros will cast the highest ranked spell if the spell rank is omitted...no? (I have never used spell ranks in my macros and have not noticed low damage values.)

When I started messing with the icon macros about a month ago, it was casting the lowest rank for me. I hear it does work for some people automatically, I don't really know why I'm buggered that way then. Better safe then sorry though I always say

I used to have one for the summoning portal, it added the text "Click at your own risk, gnomes have been known to appear"

Re: The Warlocks Guide to Evil and enhancing your diabolical experience

Thanks for the post, DrkSnpr14! Necrosis can be wonderful fun. I try to limit my emotes to only things that are cast during downtime (like soul wells, soul stones, closets).

Here is my current list (I'm a gnome warlock). A lot of them are based on ideas that I've seen in this forum. Some are adjustments to the default Necrosis-LdC sayings which were too glib / OOC / evil. Some of these are riffs off of what DrkSnpr14 posted here.

self.Speech.TP (Summoning a Portal)

<after>I am doing that other thing that warlocks do, please help me summon.
<after>Now boarding, on the red line! Welcome aboard and please keep your limbs tucked in to avoid injury during your summons!
<after>If you help me with the portal, our latecomers will arrive in style via the hellivator!
<after>If you do not want a sprawling, phlegm-looking, asthmatic creature to come from this portal, help me quickly to put it in the wicked wardrobe!
<after>Summoning the red closet, please help me put it together before demons pour through!
<after>Please help me with the portal, or our latecomers will be lost forever!
<after>Quickly! Help me with the portal, before the demons inside escape!
<after>Please help me at your own risk! Gnomes have been known to appear!

self.Speech.Rez (Soulstone someone)

<after>If you cherish the idea of a mass suicide, <target> can now self-resurrect, so all should be fine. Go ahead.
<after><target> can go drink a cup of coffee or something, soulstone is in place to allow for the wipe...
<after>Hmmm... <target> is soulstoned... full of confidence tonight aren't we?
<after>Here you go, <target>. I wrapped up your soul in a nice pretty stone, use it well.
<after><target>, this soulstone is just my way of saying I don't trust myself.
<after>Don't worry <target>, your soul is in good hands... mine.
<after><target> has a get out of death free token. Offer only valid for 30 minutes.

self.Speech.RoS (Summoning a Soul Well)

Let us use the souls of our fallen enemies to give us vitality.
My soul, their soul, doesn't matter, just take one.
Come get your cookies! No helpie, no cookie!
Who wants candy? Made out of souls! Satisfaction guaranteed!
Incoming cookies! 100% pure souly goodness, nom nom nom.
Now I am doing that thing that only warlocks can do. No, no, the other thing that only warlocks can do. Oh, never mind, who wants cookies?
A soul a day keeps the mortician at bay!
Take a soul, any soul! They're delicious, I promise...

self.Speech.Demon (Minion Summoning: Imp)

You crappy nasty little imp, stop sulking and get over here to help! AND THAT'S AN ORDER!
<pet>! HEEL! NOW!
<emote> pulls a scroll out of her bags. // According to the contract, <pet>, I command you to present yourself at once.
<pet>! Get over here, there is work to be done!

self.Speech.Demon (Minion Summoning: Voidwalker)

Oops, I'll probably need an idiot to be knocked around for me...
<pet>! Please help!
This calls for something big and blue... <pet>!

self.Speech.Demon (Minion Summoning: Succubus)

(Okay... all of the "Angora" jokes here are specific to our guild. One of the original founders played a warlock with a succubus named Angora. Some of the male dwarves were smitten with Angora and would constantly flirt with her.)

She may not be Angora, but <pet> still has the moves that groove.
<emote> looks around. // Okay <pet>, I don't see any horde nearby, so it is time to appear!
Hey <pet>, stop chatting with Angora and heed my summons!
Someday <pet> is going to write a book about Angora, but not right now!
<emote> scribbles a rune on the ground. // Maybe this will keep <pet> out of trouble!

self.Speech.Demon (Minion Summoning: Felhunter)

<pet>! <pet>! Come on boy, come here! <pet>!
Will it be a dog or a fish? Oh look, a little bit of both!

...

My guild loves it when I add new sayings, so I'm always on the lookout for new ones.

Note that the ones with "//" are spread across two lines inside the LUA file. For instance:

Code:
[5] = {
"<emote> scribbles a rune on the ground.",
"Maybe this will keep <pet> out of trouble!",
},

That reminds me of a point I was going to make. With great customization comes great responsibility. Remember that there are some children who play this game, so be mindful on the things you make your character say. Think of others before getting to vulgar or tossing out profanity everywhere
