Thoughts on a new Demonology Spell idea.
Ok, so I was poking around the Den, as I often do, and I saw yet another mention of how Demonology doesn't feel like it should. It should be all about Demons and Summoning, but right now that doesn't come across. Instead it feels more like a middle ground between Affliction and Destruction. Someone mentioned that it should feel more like "Army of the Dead" and I liked that imagery. I'm not saying we should replace Meta or any other spell, I'm merely suggesting this as a very cool Demonology spell that I would love to see implemented in the game. Give it whatever title you will, but for now lets call it the Demon Gate. Demon Gate Summons a Demon Gate through which demons will continuously arrive for 10 seconds. Once the portal closes, the spawned demons will remain for 30 seconds or until they or their summoner is killed. Essentially it would open a non channeled gateway (think of a graphic like our Summoning Stone or the Death Knight's Death Gate, through which various demons would continue to spawn. Perhaps it starts with an imp, then a Felhound, a Voidwalker, Succubus, Felguard, Infernal, and a Doomguard. Maybe they all spawn over the course of the spell, or maybe it randomly chooses some. I think it would be a pretty cool spell. Not quite like the Death Knight's version as we'd spawn multiple demons. It also would be reminiscent of the Warlock epic mount quest where we faced off against hordes of demons spawning at once. I think it would help Demonology feel more Demon Oriented. Thoughts?

Interesting... very interesting idea still partial to my Burning Legion talent.... extra active pet slots, all buffs stacking. But that's cause it would be OP. |

I like the idea but the implementation seems like a nightmare.... It would be more of a fun spell instead of a useful one. It would be a rare use in raid and pets in pvp are despised (prolly not useable due to a longer cd). Still very cool and does indeed take us more in the direction of summoning....maybe more demons vs. more powerful demons? one concept for raid - one for pvp? idk....this majore change would have to happen in cataclysm. |

Re: Thoughts on a new Demonology Spell idea.
I don't know that it would take much to implement. The foundation code is already in the game (ala Death Knight Army of the Dead). Just anchor the summoning spell to a Demon Gate graphic rather than to the player and adjust the mechanics so that it summons random demons instead of undead ghouls. From there its a matter of tweaking those demons power levels, abilities, volume of demons, cooldown timers, etc. I'm not saying it would be a quick or easy thing to do, just that they wouldn't be starting from scratch. It could be useful in raids in situations when extra mobs are pulled accidentally, on boss fights to get a little more DPS on him, and in PvP to create some chaos for the opposing side (making it difficult for them to target). I would agree that they would have to be weaker than the pets they're modeled after to compensate for the volume, but I would also remove player control over those demons. Perhaps it would have a longer cast time to open the initial Gate so that we could then move about and cast freely as our Demons are summoned out of the gate one after another.

I like the idea... I think the way it would work is whatever demon we have active is what will come out, like an army of imps. 5 of them all coming out blazing fire balls.. or 3 felguards, felhounds etc...kind of like the mages have when they bring out their clones. And the stay out until we dismiss them...Now that wouldnt be too OP would it lol |

So like Army of the Dead, but more Lord Jaraxxus style with a bunch of demons coming in, beating on stuff for 30 seconds or so. Could be cool. Of course all the DK's would say were ripping them off (event though THEY are a ripoff of us). |

We'll at least be able to cast and deal damage while our pets are summoned, plus our pets will have a larger range of abilities through their diversity.

That was me who referenced the 'army of the dead', you've turned it into a pretty cool idea! The idea of opening a gate into the nether for our minions to stream out of sounds like something a Warlock would do, sounds differentiating for Demonology and fits with the 'this is a tree about summoning/demons' idea. Love it, Pern! |

Re: Thoughts on a new Demonology Spell idea.
Sounds like it's ready to go. Make it so it summons a small stream of demons "attuned" to your currently summoned pet. Either a copy (a bouncing group of imp machineguns) or a complement (already have the imp, so tiny little felguards pop out one at a time, charge the mob, taunt and die). |
