Threat: Omen vs. Bizz meter
Ok, so I think our MT is getting irritated with me for pulling threat occasionally. Like tonight we were going for hodir HM and I died to melee twice... So i've never used an add on for threat. I've always relied on the Blizz threat meter that is already a part of the game. But after tonight, i decided to get Omen to see if it would help me pick up on threat issues sooner. So I installed it...and went out to see how it worked. Let imp pull mob before I put a dot up to see how I would build threat. It shows about 10% MORE threat then the blizz meter! So what is the consensus? that the blizz meter is crap? everyone uses omen? Last edited by Erodorael; October 30, 2009 at 03:33 AM.. |

Those that don't use omen i can guarantee are not in a top guild. Simply, omen is a must for raiding. Those that don't have it i /sigh at you |

I guess you get the warning 10% earlier at omen. Check omen's settings. The % when you get the warning is by default set at 90%. That might be it. |

I may be wrong on this as I haven't used the in game threat warning for a while but doesn't the blizzard meter only go up to 100%? Meaning that it shows you how close you are to pulling aggro rather than what your threat is in relation to your tank. Ranged dps can go to 130% of the tanks threat before they pull aggro so it's not a surprise that omen shows higher threat than the Blizzard meter. But yes, Omen is brilliant, I couldn't live with out it. Remember, it also shows your threat per second so you can measure your threat generation against your tank and adjust your play style accordingly. |

the presentation is different blizzard caps out at 100% where the % is the chance you'll pull aggro omen displays your actual threat output where the % is representative of how much threat you're pumping out with respect to others neither is crap or wrong because Omen feeds off blizzard anyway |

If you wish to continue using the default Blizzard threat indicator, hold back on your DPS sooner than 90%. Depending on RNG and your tank's cooldowns/rotation/etc, one good crit will have you spamming Soul Shatter.

Just pick omen and be done with. There's a reason why everyone use it. As for myself i never understood quite well what a percent means for threat. So a graphical bar display similiar to recount's damage done it's perfect for me. Way more explicit. |

Here is my opinion on threat, if you give the tank a split second before starting your dps rotation then any aggro issues as long as you are at 20 yards or more range belongs to the Tank. As far as add-on go, Skada damage meter has a built in threat meter that will show if you set it when in combat mode. You can set the warning to 0 to 130% and it works quite well. Nice thing about it you get damage meters and threat meters. I recommend setting up the Audio component of either meter Omen or Skada. I prefer the "You are Going to Die" alert. Once I here that I know to hit SS dropping threat. If I have to shatter it is the tanks fault, if the tank dies it is the healers fault, if we all survive and the boss dies a horrible death then all Glory goes to Me. |
