PvP VS PvE -- Major difference?

I am trying to figure out of I should go to a PvP or PvE server as a Warlock. My main question is, do PvE servers have raids much much less than PvP servers? Because, I do want to participate in raids often, but I don't want to be ganked all the time in those middle levels (30-50).

Also, are there any other differences besides the 2 different styles of PvP ("ganking PvP" and "ready PvP")? Or is that really the only difference?

Thanks to anyone that can give feedback.

There's not a lot of PvP right now on regular servers because:

1) Rewards aren't in
2) Battlegrounds aren't in

Maybe not on his server .. but on mine there is a ton . Nightly battles in Hillsbrad < alliance and horde towns are very close > Crossroads is always under attack . World Defense channel is always lit up . Unless you are Hardcore PvP player .. I would go PvE . That way .. if you just want to veg for a night grinding and questing .. you wont worry about getting dropped on .

I have to agree with Unstabl13 on this one, depending on the server, there can be constant raids. For me though, it's a different perspective....

I chose a PvE server so I didn't have to worry about PvP. I want to give Battlegrounds a go sure. I want to mess around with friends, sure. But I get sick of the constant "Southshore is under attack, everyone go there NOW!" spam in general in Ironforge. I am sick of people whinging and moaning that we are all just "standing around" and watching them die. No, sorry, I'm not standing around and watching you die, I am doing what I want to do (quest, tradeskill, sit around and chat to guildmates) because, last time I checked, I had no obligation what so ever to save your sorry butt just because you wanted to smack a Tauren over the back of the head with your pet snake....

Yes there is PvP on PvE servers, the Griffon master in Southshore is constantly dead, Theramore was a recent raid target causing us all to sit around and wait for NPC's to respawn, but the difference on a PvE server is usually all it accomplishes is wasting the time of the people who don't want to PvP... hence... and this is what goes straight over the head of most, the reason we chose a PvE server....

Now, this is only coming from a level 33, so I haven't been through the really hell levels of ganking, but I started on a PvP server only because all of my friends did, and I do not like the PvP aspect at all. I have only had one honorable interaction with a Horde player, who actually waited for me to kill the mob I was fighting, waited for me get my mana to full, and then attacked. I knew he was going to attack so I was ready for it. Every other time, I will get ganked by a level 60 on a mount, who jumps off just to kill me, then mounts up and rides off, or will get attacked in the middle of a fight with a mob. It's just the way it goes, and you learn to expect it, because it's going to happen, no matter in what Contested zone you are in. If you don't like the sound of this, don't go PvP.

pvp is fun before and after STV. that's the easiest way to sum up a pvp server. 30-45 are the rough levels. below 30 most people let you slide. after 45 you are big enough to be scarier.

Bah, I've had hell any time I have to go to the Barrens, or Ratchet, or pretty much anywhere on Kalimdor. I have yet to hit STV, but that is where I am headed next, when I finally finish up with Gnomer, get Felhunter, and finish a few other small tasks. Guess I have a lot to look forward to . . . .

Yeah, those are some tough levels to get through. I spent much of it doing instances, and staying away from STV and BB as much as I could. When I had to go to STV, I would take backup with me in the form of a higher level guild mate or a full group all working on quests (this did lead to surprising a few horde gankers who thought they had caught one or more of us alone. Attacking one or two people to find five kicking your ass can be shocking  )

I have to say that I honestly skipped much of the quest content in STV because I just couldn't waste the time. Now that my guild has moved servers (another PvP server, Algazor) I get to do it all over again. joy.

you can level pretty quick in STV thanks to many quests in an area. but it does come with the ganking consequence. Desolace is pretty decent though.

Akasha, i'm ashamed of you, refusing to help a fellow Alliance member, how could you?? /rude

Everyone can do as they wish, but World of Warcraft was designed to be played on PvP!!! =P

Its a War people, common!
