4.0 Improved Soul Fire PTR update

A post by Zarhym gave what we can expect from the patch notes tomorrow. Improved Soul Fire now increases Fire and Shadow damage by 4%/8%, and is moved to a tier 3 talent swapping places with aftermath. This means no more ISF for demo and afflic. This makes me a little nervous, but we have to see tomorrow their plans on what they will do to compensate demo and affliction.

On another note, our T11 4 set was buffed:

The PvE warlock 4-piece set bonus (Fel Spark) now increases the damage done by the next 2 Fel Flame spells by 300%, rather than increasing the critical effect chance of one by 100%.

Re: Improved Soul Fire PTR update

Well, this is going to change every one point reforged in my gear. No more crit, lets go back for tons of haste trying to get to the 30% threeshold.

Quick numbers: 7.5K on dummy without ISF. Damage from new ISF = 455 (8% fire damage 0,08*5835), so expect a real 6% of dps increased by the new ISF.

@Infernity: I can swear you that this is a kick in the balls of destro players :_(

PD: I read somewhere that ISB (+5%crit) is going to be applied by Incinerate too, but I cant find the source (I really think it was in a blue post...

As an Affliction Lock I'm really pleased with this change. ISF felt so unnatural as a buff to maintain. It just didn't fit into the rotation/priority list. For Destruction and Demonology I think it is a shame as SF is part of the rotation for these specs. But for Affliction casting SF just felt wrong. Would have been a lot better if they had created a new talent in Affliction like Improved Haunt with the same 15% buff in the tree

Re: Improved Soul Fire PTR update

I have to say that temporary %-damage buff is more boring than %-haste buff, though I guess ISF made reaching the GCD cap too easy for higher gear levels. I think destro still has to maintain the buff same way, and 8% damage is lil less dps than 15% haste. The newest BiS-simcrafts show that affli is still ahead of destro with this ISF change, so there isn't necessarily going to be any compensation.

Re: Improved Soul Fire PTR update

So what is that, 1920 haste lost because of the change? I thought the whole idea was to improve ISF. As a destro lock, this doesn't seem like an improvement to me. In fact, unless we reforge to haste to get back to a buffed 30%, hard casting SF every time is going to feel like watching paint dry.

So much for the nice crit % I was starting to see <le sigh>.
