Character transfer between 2 unconnected accounts?

So... I didn't have my own account. My brother got WoW and suggested I made a toon. I made a warlock and loved the game. Played from shortly after launch up through the beginning of Cata. All when occasionally visiting him.

I finally got a job and an updated computer that can support WoW. I made a trial account and started playing around with other classes (have my lock and a DK on my brother's account). I plan on buying WoW and the expansions, but also want to transfer my lock and DK. I recently learned that toons can only be transferd between accounts by the same name owner. This means my brother would need ownership of both accounts involved.

So how do I go about this? I asked Bliz and first they told me siblings sharing an account is frowned upon. Simply because of siblings fight. Yet they allow children of the account owner and "trustees" to share an account. That doesn't make sense to me... those people can fight too. Anyone can.

Anyway, Bliz told me to contact customer support and say I made a mistake to have RAF done with my brother's account, to my own. But I still think my trial would need to be under my brother's name.

I've tried Google searching this, but all the talk, restrictions, etc. confuse the crap out of me. I just want my 2 toons on my account. I could careless about the mount from RAF (which isn't like me since I'm a mount collector on my lock).

Re: Character transfer between 2 unconnected accounts?

I had this same issue with my account. My wife created a hunter on my account before we got married. She decided to get her own account 3 months later, and Blizzard said we could not transfer the toon.
Their requirements all seem to be linked to the name on the account. I'm not 100% certain, but so long as you and your brother share the same last name, Customer Support may be able to help you out. They sounded like they could have helped us out if we were already married, so I guess that last-name connection may be all they need.

Best of luck getting your 'Lock back!

That sucks... I hope they can do something. If not, I would rather take the loss of a level 20 toon and not my lock & DK, if my brother could just setup another account under his own name.

I'm hoping to get my own account under my own name though. Then I wouldn't need to worry about paying my brother to keep my account active.

Re: Character transfer between 2 unconnected accounts?

Had a very similar problem myself, and my solution just ended up with me walking away from the old account. In my case, it was my brother's girlfriend's account that she had given back to him after they went their own separate ways. I really should have said, ooooh, fun game, let me get my own account, but I let it slide and no one ever had an issue with it until my account got hacked. Blizz was adamant about ID verification, and to be honest, I understand. At that point, I couldn't get ahold of her and ended up being completely burned, though no hard feeling to Blizz over the ordeal.

I still miss Nienna from time to time, but if I never lost her, I might still be tanking with a BE pally, not having nearly as much fun DPS'g with the Dark Arts on my side. Take my advice, try to push the brother relationship to see if an exception would be made. Don't expect one. Get your own account and never ever share it with anyone. Ever. Having started playing WoW at the end of the Vanilla era, I can tell you of numerous instances where friends, guildies, families and other assorted loved ones have learned the hard way that sometimes sharing is NOT caring.

As an aside, having an 8yr old son that plays WoW, I would never let him play if I couldn't log on as his parent to ensure that he is playing safe. It's a very different circumstance when you are literally responsible for the welfare and well-being of a minor. When he's 18, or older if he has earned the essential basics of trust and respect, his account will be his very own, and he can get his own account verifier to ensure his account security.

Edit: I know it doesn't sound helpful, but leveling is really EASY nowadays. If you get stuck re-rolling, it will be faster than the first time and you might even get your brother to hook you up with as much of your old gear and gold as you had accumulated on your previous toons. Best of luck.

If I can't get my lock transfered, I'll be calling it quits. I had early Cata raid gear. One of the top guild reps of the guild. One of the top achievement collectors in the guild too. Not to mention pets, mounts, and recipes for cooking (minor importance I know), tailoring and enchanting (had nearly all for each). I don't want to start from scratch on a lock, knowing I had all that on him.

Yes, as Cormanthor said, if you share the same last name, you shouldn't have a problem. you don't even have to call/involve blizz support, so long as the new account you created has the same surname as your brother's.

Though from my past research, even if you DID have an issue with the transfer, its 100% "legal" to xfer toons between accounts if you're siblings.

Yes, but doesn't my account need to be under his email address? I read a Bliz post or maybe Q&A thing where they said 8 WoW accounts can be under the same billing address. I think they have to be under the same email account as well. Currently, my trial account is under my own email address and not my brother's. His account (which has my 2 toons) is under his own email address.

Re: Character transfer between 2 unconnected accounts?

I had a simular problem long time ago. My ex played wow and i rolled my main lock on his account to see if i liked the game. Since i couldnt play when he was on his account, i created one for myself on my own name and rolled a rogue.
When i wanted to transfer the lock to my account, i couldnt because it was on my name and not his. I had to make a second account on his name to get my precious lock.

This summer I had some issues with my authenticator but it turns out i didnt need anything from my ex to prove it was my account because it was my email adress and credit card that have been on the account for so long. Lucky me i guess..

good luck on getting your lock back
hope you will succeed

Nope, you can have separate email addresses, at least this was the case when I did it last year. Unless, of course, things have changed in the past 14 months or so.

But i wouldn't think that they expect family members to share email addresses too

Re: Character transfer between 2 unconnected accounts?

I transferred several characters between two accounts some years ago, in 2007 I think. It was easy to do - the accounts were two different names but had the same billing information. Maybe the restrictions are tighter now but it was quite easy back then.
