if you're 41 affliction you barely cast shadow bolt unless it's nightfall. having the chance for a nightfall proc to crit and place shadow vuln on your target is godly. if you have mostly affliction warlocks in a raid it will be even more amazing as that debuff is likely to remain the full duration and everyone's dots become huge. i barely ever full cast shadow bolt anymore.

the minimum 10 in destruction is an outdated train of though. 5 actually works very nicely for affliction, but even then isn't required.

shadow burn IS a PvP tallent hands down, I was also SM/Ruin befor the patch but i've now speced UA as i belive that to be the best tree for grinding to 70, and no i'm not pvping much for the items as all of my gear is better then the warlords stuff.

Also with the new malediction talents assigning those spec'd locks to curse of shadows and elements is important for overall raid damage with the increased effect.
If you play Naxx a lot of fights are done running with multiple targets.

casting 2 shadowbolts and a curse (CoE or CoS) takes about 8.5 seconds including global cooldown, what gives none crit about 2500 damage on 1 single target

in 8.5 seconds you can cast CoE/Cos/Curse of Agony, corruption, siphonlife, UA, immolate, lifetap and start draining

Then think my corruption ticks for 370+, UA for around 300 per tick, siphonlife for 100+, immolate is about 500 initial + dot and drainlife is about 250 per tick with all dots applied. Then count nightfall proces because of corruption and drainlife

If dot you can switch target and apply dots on all tanked mobs, using siphonlife on more targets and lifetapping gives you nice mana and a little damage

To react on the 100% bonus from Shadowbolts.. We are talking about crits get 100% bonus, not the base damage. So if you crit you get 100% bonus, but a low hit + a low crit = low 100% bonus. Yes the crits can be huge, but the average damage is a luck factor instead of static base damage.

So playing affiction like described and keeping all the dots up will give you massive damage too without even casting one shadowbolt. Myselve I cast shadowbolts when all the dots are still running or use SB when nightfall procs.

For example 4 times corruptions + 1 drainlife gives 24% nightfall proc per tick, that is a lot...

after I considered it all I actually thinking about respeccing from 41/0/10 to 43/8/0

I get 15% more life, my pet gets 15% more mana (darkpact) and I get 3% extra bonus

I highly recommend it -- over 7k health when buffed. The more health you have, the longer you last, and the more dps you can do. ;)

^^ thats a nice spec, and im planning on going that way myself.

I have a question though.. How come you haven't taken Amplify Curse for a 50% Curse of Agony bonus? Maybe drop a point out of Fel Intellect? or HoT? (but i see this is useful in PvP)

Re: Is UA worth getting ?

Most likely because Curse of Agony is rarely used in PvE, as we are used for utility curses .

Re: Is UA worth getting ?

You only need a couple warlocks for utility curses. The rest are free to dps, and Curse of Agony amplification can only add to that dps.

Re: Is UA worth getting ?

I joined yesterday and I am a lv 48 destruct spec lock. I am always in the top for pvp or in world fights. I win alot but my mana goes down pretty darn fast. Should i change my spec? Is the affliction spec better for grinding. I just dont see alot of destruct spec locks out there. I can kick butt but I have to life tap like crazy and bandage everytime. If any destruct locks who are higher have any feedback about end game or affliction spec about end game thanks

Re: Is UA worth getting ?

If you're only one of one or two warlocks with Malediction, you'll never be putting up Agony in raids. So if you specced for CoE/CoS, no point in wasting points in imp Curse of Agony. Assuming you are primarily a raiding lock.

Usually you need CoE, CoS, CoR up, sometimes CoT. And it's rare to have more than 4, maybe 5 warlocks it seems. So really maybe only one person can purely dps.

True, but there will be the need for three utility curses, and Warlock raid slots are most likely to be between 2 and 4, depending on encounter/guild...there's that old myth we don't do any DPS...
