Destro - DoT or don't?
My question is pretty simple: As destruction where is the breaking point to stop casting immolate and corruption and just spam shadow bolts? I've checked the spreadsheets and they say to keep dotting. However in 5 and 10 mans my dps seems to be higher when I just nuke. I've also noticed my dps higher when I use curse of shadow (even if I'm the only shadow/arcane caster) instead of agony (I used doom when I know there is enough time for it to go off). My key stats in boss gear are: 200 hit 23.52% crit (including talents) 4% haste 1351 shadow damage (with Crusade card fully charged up) I know it has a lot to do with keeping ISB up, but I thought I would need to be closer to 30% crit to stop dotting. Note: I did a breakdown on my spell damage from my last full Kara clear according to Recount. Per cast time my spells did the following damage on average after factoring crits and all ticks: Immolate: 1645 dps Corruption: 1327 dps Shadow Bolt: 1206 dps Still, my dps seemed to be higher when I ignored dots and just nuked. All comments/feedback welcome. |

Me personally only use immo and sb's on trash mobs and the cycle in corr on bosses or trash mobs that we don't kill quickly. And I aways use CoS in less i got 2 other locks with me that I can assign to do CoS and CoE 2 then I use CoR or CoW depending on the mob or I just don't curse. I do the same in felguard spec also. |

You will have to spreadsheet for exact numbers but generally corruption become a poor choice early on while immolate will have the best dpct almost until you get your 4pT6 bonus. |

From everything i've experienced, i lose dps when dotting anything other than COS and then just spamming SB. Don't really care what spreadsheets say, i'm going off of damage meters and wws reports and my real world experiences trying both ways in the same instances, same group makeup. |

If you arent wasting ticks of immo and pay close attention to timings you will increase your dps by casting it unless you have the 4PT6 bonus. If you are skipping it you either have lag too severe to raid(cant handle more then one button) or your just being lazy. This has been tested extensively both mathematically and in game. |

Corruption = Useless except in specific situations Immolate as stated is generally used up till a certain spell damage cap, unless you have the fire destro talents as well as imp SB, because even into t6 it's still better to have immo up, and this is according to leulier's and personal experience |

DoTing only takes you a few seconds. On trash mobs I use CoE , Corruption, Immolate, Incinerate, Conflagrate (when Immolate has 2 more secs), in this order. It works really well and I'm usually 1st or 2nd at damage done. At boss fights I use CoS , corruption, immolate and SB, also equipping my +shadow damage items. Also I sometimes use CoD or Curse of Agony with Amplifiy curse. But now, depends on each one's play style and tbh if you cba to DoT at least bosses or elites , then don't raid, as simple as that. |
