Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

Below is a very rough first draft of just the basic info behind the build. Although the build was mentioned a lot, there wasn't a whole lot of breakdown information provided so there is probably LOTS missing from this thread. What I'm now after is information to back it up:
  • What the build is actually about
  • Information and pointers on allocating your points.
  • Any recommended talents I missed?
  • Any optional talents I missed?
  • ANYTHING else we want to include? Notes? Pointers? Advice or Information?
Also, if you know of any notes in the Raiding Builds - Collecting all info!! thread that you think should be included in this one, please let me know. 18 pages is a lot to read through and there's a good chance I missed some.

Please feel free to improve on ANYTHING here. As I mentioned in another draft thread, my brain isn't what it used to be lately and stringing together some information just isn't working like before. These are basically your guides anyway, so I'm more than happy to copy+paste!

Re: Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

0 / 40 / 21

This is generally accepted as a raiding spec for those with late 60's or poor to mediocre 70 gear. Since this build is generally a static damage bonus (through demonic knowledge) it doesn't scale well as gear gets better. For this reason, if gets relatively less effective as everyone's gear gets better.

This is for blasting a lot of shadow bolts with a pet out. You want to crit early and often. You will do best with a shadow priest and a tank who knows how to hold agro. Without a shadow priest you'll have to drink almost as often as a mage, no biggie on most raids. Without a good tank, the raid's in trouble anyway . You will want to use the succubus for the +10% damage or the imp for the -20% agro.

Talent layout

Recommended talents
Although this build is so varied, there are some core talents that are highly recommended by nearly all Warlocks. These are talents you are going to want to include in your build, regardless of the end result.
Demonic Tactics (5 points)
+5% crit.

Demonic Knowledge (3 points)
More damage depending on your demon's Int + Stam. Get your demon buffed early and often. (Take the imp out of phase shift to get him buffed.)

Fel Intellect (3 points)
To Feed Demonic Knowledge . It's also good for more seduction when doing succubus crowd control.

Fel Stamina (3 points)
To Feed Demonic Knowledge . It's also good for keeping your pet alive.

Master Summoner (2 points)
You depend on your pet, so when your pet dies, or you find yourself with the wrong pet, you want to summon the next one fast. Also good for insta summoning a void for the sacrifice so you get a bubble now, before you are dead.

Master Demonologist (5 points)
Allows the use the succubus for the +10% damage or the imp for the -20% agro. Also good for a big resistance boost from the Fel Hunter.

Ruin (1 point)
To crit like you mean it.

Destructive Reach (2 points)
Stay out of AoE range and nuke away.

Devastation (5 points)
+5% more crits for a better world.

Improved Shadow Bolt (5 points)
All those crits now add 20% more damage.

Bane (5 points)
Faster Shadow Bolting for more DPS.

Shadowburn (1 point)
Insta Nuke, a great finisher for non-bosses.

Optional and/or Situational talents
Improved Healthstone
If someone else is always giving you one, you can point these points elsewhere.

Improved Imp
If you run with the imp a lot, and free up points elsewhere, you could stick them here.

Soul Link
Neither the imp nor the succubus can take a lot of damage, so you could drop this and point the point elsewhere. With destructive reach and good agro management, however, you can often go for hours without taking much damage, and Soul Link does add 5% damage.

Demonic Sacrifice
If you always have your pet up, you're not sacrificing them. If you drop Soul Link, and never sacrifice, you could drop this.

Demonic Resilience
You could drop this one point for elsewhere, or if you free up two more, you could buff this to 3/3.

Intensity
If you don't get interrupted much, you could put these points elsewhere in destruction.
Alternative layouts
Not too sure there are many alternative layouts for this build. However, if there is, please be sure to share. Please note the "Felguard" builds will have their own thread - alternatives to this build might be 7 / 40 / 14 etc...

Nojolocka says:
Long ago, in a ZG far away, I noticed I was shadow bolting a lot. Every time I stopped to do something else, my DPS went down, at least on short fights. This build is to get heavy + damage and heavy + crit. Note that DoTs do not crit, so you want to hit the nukes. Immolate, however, will crit with the initial damage.

If the fight is short enough I can guess when the mob has 6 seconds or less to live, I always fire off a Shadowburn.

On long fights, I keep CoD and Immolate up while Shadow Bolting. When my mana starts to drop, I'll Life Tap. When I don't think the boss has a minute to live, I'll switch to Curse of Agony, CoS, or CoE, depending on party composition. With multiple Warlocks, we each take a curse. If the heals don't come, I'll do Corruptions as well. My healers will usually come through with a HoT, and I pack mana pots for those really long ones where the healers are going OOM. I love when one of our Shadow Priests comes along.

Here is a screehshot of me raiding with a very similar build. Notice the DPS list and then notice the aggro list.

This is Lurker Below, a boss inside SSC.

Re: 0/40/21

ive been interested in trying this build out and im wondering how it manages in arena. my gear isnt too good atm... (couple pieces of frozen shadoweave and some bg epics rest is ok blues) and i doubt i'd stand much of a chance in 2v2 ratings above 1600. im currently heavily demo and im wondering how this build would do for me.

It's absolutely terrible in the arena, obvious. And you don't have the gear to make it useful until past kara.

Re: Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

One of the big things in this build, which is forgotten here, is the huge buff it gives with good gear: it keeps almost constantly +20% shadow damage buff in at boss fights. That is tremendous buff for warlock dps and shadow priest dps. With my gear I crit most of time, and have good dps (I easily do same dps as 0/21/40 WL in boss fight). Playing with this build in raids contains only shooting bolts and immolate, so some people might not like it, and build is not that effective at all without pretty nice crit chance. When you have about 30%, I think you'll see my point loving this build ;)

Like said before in this thread, build is also good for those just hitting 70 and starting to gear up, nice damage buff as a starter. Good for the time it takes to gear up for other builds.

Just wanted to bring this thing up here, people seem to forget this all the time =)

And about pvp... you can manage, but it's extremely hard to play, and has big chance of losing in arenas. Go for other specs for pvp, my suggestion.

Re: Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

I run this build at the moment, and I find watching the big numbers fly past far more interesting than spamming dots.

Obviously a play style choice, as Speccing 40/21 keeps almost the same DPS, and triples my 'outside-of-raid' lifespan.

This build pretty much exists for 5-man Heroics and Raids only, so its fortunate that is all I tend to do these days.

While Farming is do-able, its not were near as efficient as an afflic build.

Re: Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

I've been running very similar 0/43/18 as a raiding experiment lately, and I've got to say it's been a good time and good damage. I kept the felguard and usually run him during raids. IMO the felguard's constant DPS makes up for not having Ruin. I find that the 5% damage buff and the resistance buff work nicely together in most of the Kara boss encounters.

I only pull out the succy for Netherspite, but I'm able to take the blue beam for a full portal phase and hit 11k shadowbolt crits by the end of the phase with moderate gear (full frozen plus 4 kara drops). This is also an outstanding build for controlling imps on Illhoof. Spam illhoof with SoC and watch the 2200 crits cover your screen, saving the felguard to help burn down the chains on sacrifice.

I do have to say that farming kinda sucks. I can stay topped off with health/mana constantly with tap/drain but I tend to summon a fresh felguard every 8-10 since there was no room in this build for Mana Feed and he's oom by then.

I'll see how well the build scales with more Kara gear and then the early 25 man content and post an update when I can.

Re: Raiding Builds - 0 / 40 / 21 (Draft 1)

I would like to know what people think of my current build? I am hitting Heroics and getting ready for another run at Kara with a different group of people.

I truly enjoy the 30% threat reduction I am getting as well as the benefits of Master Demo and Conflag.

Thanks in advance on opinions.

Hell yeah.

First, i'm sorry for my english! (german user)

But i've some important questions.

My Talents: 0 / 40 / 21

My Armory:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Die+Silberne+Hand&n=Hoorax

Talentplanner:
http://www.wow-europe.com/de/info/ba...12200010000000

So far.

My 'tactic' is based on max damage due a buffed imp.

I'm a Pve-Lock, and hope for constructive informations etc.

With the full raid buffs i'll come up to 1500-1600 add damage.
~26-30% (best chance: moonkin & shaman).

My spell hit, 135 pretty low i know. To low for such a damage?

Or should i play a dotlock (ua)?

Many guys says: Before T5, Dotlock, with T5 (and better) -> 0/21/40.

I hope for help, because i haven't rly good warlocks in my guild.
