0/40/21 respecced to 0/21/40 but confused?

I have gotten into raiding and was specced 0/40/21 demo/ruin for a long time now and in first and way ahead on the damage meter. I usually phase shift my imp and would do really well for stam boost and damage bonuses. With Imp and fel armor - no other buffs - i was sitting at 10269 stam, 1202 shadow damage, 23.33 % crit and 195 spell hit. If i sacced the succy i was at 1251 shadow damage.

Heres my problem....i had heard that once your over 1100 damage and close to 24/25 % crit you can go destruction build and rape the damage charts. I respecced and now my damage is DOWN to 1088, 21.33 crit, hit is obviously the same at 195 and stam is same. If i sac my succy my damage oddly enough is back at 1251.

So am i wigging out about nothing? I assume that even though the numbers in my character info is down, the "hidden bonuses" if you will, that are in the destruction tree (ie shadow and flame, ember, imp immolate) will in actuality bring me way up on the damage chart from where i was??

I did research before posting on maxdps.com and entered in number before and after.....it does state that before even though the "viewable" numbers were bigger, i was outputting 1158.8 dps and with this new build saccing the succy with all talents in dest build im supposedly getting 1426.6 dps??

Is this correct or am i totally off base with the numbers and theories? thanks

First off im assuming your putting up CoS and shadowbolt spamming , destruction build recieves a gives much bigger boost to your shadowbolt spell than your demonology build .. best way to check is to compare your sbolts hits and crits of the two different builds ..

Now for the site maxdps.com it gives you a theoretical DPS value of the build .. it doesnt count for latency, lag , life tap GCD etc i usually count my dps 200 less than what it says on the site

PS: i really suggest getting the last few points of your spell hit to cap it

yes, i put up CoS and SB spam....and your right - it was the best output that was available no matter how you mix and match it. Ill get the Enslaved Doomguard soulgrips gloves when our server unlocks the stuff for badges and that would get me over the 202 cap.

Did i mess up by switching to destruction and will i really get more out of my damage....tryin to download a damage meter that works with the new patch is a pain.

Looks to me like you are in pvpish gear but from the stats you gave dev is not shown on the tool tip as it doesnt apply to all your spells and if im not mistaken SnF doesnt show as damage either. You will be fine as destro with the numbers you gave in the OP.

yea, i chose some pvp gear because of the fact there were some that had spell hit, crit and fact they had gems slots that were more readily available than some gear i had picked up from raiding. I have the Staff of Infinate Mysteries, but recently switched it for the gladiators staff because of more damage, alot more crit, and only lost a bit stam/itell and didnt loose really any hit to worry about. I have the pvp shoulders,bracers and chest because of crit/hit and gem slots as well. All my gems are veiled noble gems in my pvp stuff which i think was a good move for raiding. I do need to upgrade a few things, but am currently having a hard time picking up a raiding guild that needs a lock on my server.

Spell damage is not the same as DPS. Your paper doll spell damage went down. Of course it did. You lost Demonic Knowledge which buffs your spell damage by 12%. But your DPS will go up. I have done a bunch of respecs between 5/45/11 and 0/21/40, and both will do similar DPS. My paper doll shadow damage is about 150-200 higher when felguard spec, but the DPS wasn't much different.
