[General to raiding] Looking for constructive criticism on Talent build

Character Name: Lumina
Armory Profile: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...Coast&n=Lumina

Wowhead link of current build in use:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IVMriRfzZogczGiz0xs

Wowhead link of proposed build: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IEMrbRfzVtcoZxx0tR

PvE Play style and Requirements of build:
I'm currently still in the farming phase to get mats for my crafted gear. I'm planning to upgrade to either the Spellstrike set or the Battlecast set. I"m thinking that I will go with the Spellstrike set though. Then I plan to start trying to upgrade the rings, trinkets, neck and weapons. I will probably craft the cloak of the Black Void for my back.

I've found that the SL/SL build suits me more for farming mats.. but hinders me when i'm in an instance.

I do want to progress more into a raiding lock though.

PvP Play style and Requirements of build:

I do like PVP; but will probably just respec to SL/SL when i want to go do some arenas or Battlegrounds.

Additional Comments:

Thanks in advance for any comments/help.

As it stands, thats a perfectly good build for your level of gearing and the purposes you intend for it. You might have to make the choice of speccing into Malediction (I notice you currently don't have it) and applying CoS in lieu of Curse of Agony, but while you have improved Curse of Agony then of course should you have the freedom to apply a damage curse than its going to see a fair bit of mileage.

Get spellstrike before Battlecast (You could safely ignore BC unless you particularly wanted an interim sta-heavy set for PvP while you grind honour if thats what you intend?).

SL/SL will be fine for PvP as noted, no comments there.

Basically, just what Theleb said. My only addition is that you really shouldn't have crit/damage gems, as you are nowhere near the hit cap. Plus, it's just a general rule of thumb to never gem for crit. My advice for that would be (If you feel like spending the extra for it) replace your crit/damage gems for hit/damage. Just my two cents.

I didn't really look over the gear but yes, gemming for +crit is a little pointless. +hit/+damage is the way to go for affliction.....crit will come from gear in time.

(also, the bracers and boots are worth enchanting).

Re: [General to raiding] Can I ask for views as well?

Guys, I found this post to be pretty well done and your replies particularly helpful, so I try to get along. Pls move/edit/delete [pls don't ;-)] if this does not belong here.

Character Name: Otelma
Armory Profile: The World of Warcraft Armory

Armory link of current build in use (plain vanilla Affli Build): The World of Warcraft Armory

I would like to respec to Destruction (shadow build you recommend in the Builds section) - since my shadow damage is 1200 (only with fel armor buff, no wiz oil/flask of pure death, food buff etc.). I guess my spell hit is low but I will make the enchant to increase spell penetration (I guess this should get me to above 202, hence hit capped).

PvE Play style and Requirements of build:

Our guild has Kara on farming (excluding Teresian, Nightbane and the big Blue Drake in the observatory [er...forgot his name...]). I intend to keep on raiding (nothing hardcore, but at least couple evenings a week - max 3) and be of help - also with ZA and Grull in the initial phases of MULTIPLE WIPES and frustration etc...

Don't get me wrong, I am happy with current build, but as anybody I sometimes feel the 'urge' to respec to destruction and try to get ZA-Grull-Magh killed with more ease.

I think my gear is all right considering my level of advancement (just got the Prince dagger last night) but would welcome any further suggestions on potential badge loot/heroic drops that could help me more.

PvP Play style and Requirements of build:

I hate PvP. Do not have time to do it, do not enjoy it and I am not looking into doing it for the foreseeable future....

Well, as long as you follow the guidelines laid out for the minimum stats to make the switch to destruction you'll be fine. Don't enchant for spell penetration, it has no effect on +hit, don't gem for +crit....instead gem for +hit/damage.

Nothing really to add, its all been covered in previous posts about Destruction

Re: [General to raiding] Looking for constructive criticism on Talent build

Theleb, thanks for the fast reply (and the tip on spell penetration... so I am not sure why moving out the curator mace onto prince dagger+orb i lost some 20 spell hit....).

It seems like the threshold between Affli and Destro is not that crystal clear (read some of the posts you VERY RECENTLY pointed otut to another closed thread) and every one seems to have a different perception of HOW and WHEN to switch. I am north of 1100 shadow damage (NO buffs), I am in the 13% crit (lower stat...) and I WAS 203 spell hit (now 184... will regem and get there, of course).

My question to you, and all others here, is more on:
- Too early to switch (our tank is not really an aggro magnet yet..)
- Is Destro REALLY BORING (or so much less challenging than Affli - so many people say pressing one single button seems to be boring after all, despite the DPS charts...)? I am not very good at keeping all DoTs up all the time, so I was wondering if that could have been a nice 'shortcut' to switch to destro.
- SPriests are still willing to make damage by themselves and not willing to boost me ;-) so would it make sense to switch etc?

I am (surprisingly....) the class leader in my guild, so this discussion is both very useful for me as well as the other locks who would eventually come across to me asking for tips etc.

Any hints/tips HIGHLY appreciated.

Re: [General to raiding] Looking for constructive criticism on Talent build

Staff of Infinite Mysteries - Item - World of Warcraft

Clearly has 23 hit rating on it, the dagger and orb combo has none.

Generally accepted wisdom is that as I said in that other thread, 1000+damage, hitcap, 20% TT crit.....after that point Ruin will outperform UA and you can safely switch. HOW to switch is down to your personal gearing but WHEN is clear.

If your tank can't hold aggro, don't switch because it will get worse as Destro...however in that case I would suggest educating your tank properly.

Destro is very boring - immolate/shadowbolt bored me after about 2 days but it will tear up the meters and entertain you with large numbers appearing on your screen.

Your point about SP's is a little flat...you can give them CoS (Which is usually the curse most Destro locks use, followed by CoE, or CoR, and THEN damage curses) but they give you Shadoweaving and Misery - just throw up CoS and along with the SP boss debuffs watch the damage pour out.

Re: [General to raiding] Looking for constructive criticism on Talent build

Just looked at the curator staff right now, and right before you showed me.
All the points you just raised are extremely useful (will llink this post on the guild forum) for me.

Will just stay affli until i get the crit up (i guess this means way between T4 and T5) and will do as all other diligent locks do....

re. MT will try and pass the message across - the issue is that the little times I manage to get all ticks up I end up generating MUCH more aggro than him and need to soulshatter to avoid having my gnomish little bones crushed.

On the boring side, it seems Destro is the boring spec, then. But it would be much easier to use i guess - you'll end up also seeing what happens on screen, won't you? I have not really seen what does the Prince look like , since I am always hammering on those hotkeys....

Will look up on the Misery and Shadowweave on the search engine (still cannot use it very well....) and get back for questions (I ALWAYS raid with SPriest but did not recall such buffs appear next to my little gnomish self...).

THANKS again.
