[Raiding] Asked to respec Desto

Hi there

I have been Affliction all my life and yesterday an officer asked me to respec to 0/21/40.

My hit rating is capped but I am not sure if i should change it yet, since my crit would only get up to 17.14% with the talent from destruction (I read that i need at least 20% unbuffed)

My guild has other two locks in raid and they are destruction spec as well. They have lower shadow damage than I do but higher crit. I ususally rank 2nd of the three locks in damage during boss fight with lowest dps.

Lock #1 - 0/21/40 - 1090 shadow damage, 22.56% crit, hit capped (#1 lock atm)
Lock #2 - 0/21/40 - 1130 shadow damage, 20.2% crit, hit capped
Me - 41/2/18 - 1217 shadow damage, 14.14% crit, hit capped

So here's my dilemma .. should I change to 0/21/40 with only 17.14% crit (from talent points) without sacrificing damage output. My guild is doing T5 content atm and we got the first boss down in T6 content yesterday.

Here's my armor The World of Warcraft Armory

Re: [Raiding] Asked to respec Desto

I thought I'd try and offer a little bit of advice since it seems like there are a lot of posts on here that go without getting a response.

Perhaps an easy solution to your problem would be to sacrifice some of the +damage gems for one that's +crit since destro spec relies so heavily on that factor. I know there are gem that offers both +crit and +damage. Maybe swapping one of those in would help boost you up closer to your guildies crit level. =)

Crit % is important for keeping ISB debuff up. If you have another lock in the raid group, you can go with lower crit and you should be fine. I wouldn't recommend gemming for crit (been there, done that). Just work on replacing affliction gear with destro/crit set.

Ele Shammy with totem = 3% hit 3% crit and 100+ spd. Thats all you need.

Don't worry to much about crit.

Remember too - if you have a shammy in your group you actually only need 164 hit to be capped (assuming the shammy never dies).

Something else that you might bring to the officer's attention is that past two destro 'locks, overall raid benefit slacks off. I imagine he's thinking that at your gear level you'll do more damage as destro, but between malediction and shadow embrace, you are probably helping your raid more by staying affliction.

I'd say based on your armory that it's too soon to be forcing you to Destro. Tier 6 raiding content, sure, but not where you are.

I was going to suggest making a post under the "rate my gear" section of the equipment forums as it seems like you're wondering about your +crit more than the build itself...though certainly talent build questions often spawn gear discussions.

However...

It seems you may have made some gear changes since you posted? Your crit chance seems improved without much sacrifice to damage.

Your gear is not to the point that it will be excessively better damage to spec destro you are at a good gear threshold to start that spec however if you enjoy affliction then there is nothing wrong with keeping that spec. I wouldn't argue for someone to be forced to turn destro until 4pt6 due to the massive dps increase to the destro spec. You will do fine as each spec play what you enjoy for now. If you do decide to go destro swap in some potent pyrstones to get that 20% tt crit and lose the spell pen gem.
