[Raiding] Felguards specs and crit chance
Hey everyone. I've been wondering whether to post for some advice on this, I decided that it can't really hurt to ask. =)
I've been raiding with the Felguard for some time now, I've used him to great effect on VR in particular, Maggy, ZA and Kara. I have the 2xT5 but not the VST. I've seen a few variations in the talent build people use. I've been using 0/44/17 but since I was finding mana a slight issue, and because I made the transition to demo from Affliction, I'm thinking 7/44/10 might be a better idea because of Imp. Life Tap. My gear hasn't changed much since I went Demo, only the pants (which allowed me to change), then the boots and then gloves, and as you can see I've gemmed almost every slot with +12 damage. Going for Imp. Life Tap requires 5 points and they're logically put into Imp. Corruption which therefore makes it worth throwing it up before spamming SB. This would however mean I'd lose the threat reduction and I'm not sure what the effect would be with Corruption ticking away with a rather high amount of spell damage (especially raid buffed), and then with throwing out SBs. Although saying that, I'd also lose Devastation with 7/44/10 so perhaps the 5% decreased crit chance will make it all ok. It's an odd tradeoff I think. I threw my gear and the 2 different specs into Leulier's spreadsheet and it actually turned out that losing Devastion and getting Imp. Corruption would give me an extra 30(ish) dps which I think is rather significant. I was rather surprised. It seems to me the work done on the Warlock's part in a demo spec is a choice between a destro style of play (just spamming SB) or maybe a little more of an Affliction playstyle where you throw up your dot(s) and then spam SB. I think the general advice for aspiring destro locks is 20% crit unbuffed if I remember right? But with a Felguard it would surely be a little different. At some point I think 0/44/17 would become better than 7/44/10 regardless of mana issues. But at what point would that be? It seems like a balance of bonus spell damage and crit rating. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Apologies if this is not the best section to post this in. It's maybe half a talent build question and half a stat question. :P Cheers. |
