Is it my gear or my build (30/21/10)?

I'm a hybrid Affy Lock, and the last few runs in Kara I have not been able to post higher than 4th in DPS. Granted the difference between 2nd and 4th has only been about 5%, but 1st in damage is another lock who bested me by about 10%.

I'm trying to figure out if it's my gear, or my build. I'm leaning towards my build, as my gear according to the Den's Gear Guide should be able to put up good numbers compared to T4, etc.

I realize it could be I suck at playing the class, but I have DOT timers, and am mindful of rotation, maximize ticks, etc, so while that can't be discounted, I don't think it's the primary factor in the difference in damage.

I welcome your input (good, bad, or indifferent)...

Gear looks ok with a few excetions:

1) Missing enchants
2) replace those +stam gems with +spell dam (you +spell dam is rather low)
3) replace the few blues you have, would consider going with a MH / OH combo and a wand. You in the right place for a new back piece

(read C-Pimps gearing guide as well as the echanting guide)

You should be getting ~22 badges from each kara run, some SOLID gear out there for badges....

I recently switched from a pure afflication build to 31/9/21 and went from 4th / 5th to 1st / 2nd on the meters.

What is your spell rotation and dot up time as well?

In closeing, I think the powers that be might close this thread due to improper posting etc.. But in any case, hope the above helps in some way

a classic 41/0/18 +2 build will last you till t6 oder until you go felguard (preferably with 2x T5 and Solanrian trinket)

myself is raiding with an 40/0/21 build in a MH&BT clear guild, and i can still put out enough damage to compare with the rest

but until t6 41/0/20 is definitely a good choice for dps and support

Your gear looks pretty good for Kara. 856 Shadow Damage and 134 hit are good for where you are.

Don't gem for Stamina. You really shouldn't need it.

I see you just picked up enchanting. That is no excuse to not have your gear enchanted. Gloves: either spell hit or spell damage. Bracers: spell damage. Boots: Stamina. Those three need to be fixed today.

You need to get your rep wtih The Sha'tar up to Revered to get the head enchant. +22 spell damage and healing and +14 spell hit rating is too good to pass up.

I ran Kara as tops in damage with a 41/0/20 spec. Not sure what the benefit of your spec is. Are you sac'ing a Succy? Not sure that 15% is better than UA. (anyone got a WWS from a UA lock in Kara?) Plus, if you spec all the way to UA, you get Dark Pact which basically gives you another 2000 or so mana every fight.

Fix your enchants and gems. Never use solid stars in pve gear...if the bonus is stam you dont need it use more hit/damage gems instead of matching for it. If you want to match in your FSW for the hit bonus use nightseyes not stars. We can't really give you advice without seeing rotation etc post a WWS when you get a chance.

With the above comments about gear in mind, I would say thats partially the reason - the rest is the limitations of that build.

You do not have the gear to incorporate a destro build beyond the usual 18/20 points in there that any good affliction raiding build will have so 40/0/21 is out but as also noted above, a cookie-cutter Affliction raid spec will be absolutely fine.

Check out the gear guide for more tips on what gems/enchants you should be running, then read through the affliction DPS guide to see if you can pick up any more pointers.
