[Raiding] Looking for critique of the affliction build I'm switching to.
Character Name: Jokulhlaup
Profile Link: Jokulhlaup Nathrezim Build I'm planning to switch to: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft PvE Play style and Requirements of build: I'm just getting started raiding, and after getting some advise in another thread I'm planning on switching over to Affliction. Still have some grinding for motes and dailies that need doing. PvP Play style and Requirements of build: I'm on a PvP server, so I'll need at least a bit of PvP survivability. I also plan on running some BGs for some gearmo. Additional Comments: I'm skipping Suppression since I'm already hit capped (doesn't show up in profile since I'm not wearing my Manaspark Gloves, which are gemmed for +hit). Nightfall and Improved Howl of Terror are both for grinding. I also want IHoT since I'm on a PvP server. I skipped malediction since there's already a lock in the guild I'm apply for with it. And worse case scenario, it's not hard to respec. I dropped Intensity and Shadow Burn in order to get the points I needed to get 5/5 Shadow Embrace. So is there anything you guys can see that I've missed that I should be taking? Anything that I've taken that isn't really worth it? |

In my opinion, since you have improved howl of terror, you don't realy need Curse of Exhaustion. Fear locking is a more effective way of getting something or somone off your tail with enough time for you to get away or slap on your dots. I would drop that and put the extra point in improved life tap (as it helps a ton in raids and puts less strain on the healer).
I would also drop 1 point in devistation to grab shadowburn. Why? Because when your fighting bosses like the Curator, or are fighting trash mobs that die rather quickly, it's a nice touch to help nuke down whatever adds are in the way. I use it quite regularly on Kara runs to help kill off the adds that spawn frequently in the Curator fight. |

I guess it depends on how much raiding to grinding you'll be doing because imp howl, and possibly shadow embrace aren't too useful for raiding, you might want to take pts from those and put them into malediction and possibly imp Curse of Agony. You can take pts from destro and put it into demo, little less dps but more utility and good for grinding, basically imp HS, demo embrace, fel int, fel stam, demo aegis, you can also give up three pts in any those to put into improved imp for the extra stam from blood pact.

And if you have Malediction, you're never using Curse of Agony. Imp Curse of Agony is wasted points. Quote:

looks very solid, spec. should do just fine. On your gear, make sure you swap in blue gems on your spell stroke hood and swap out that arcane netherband spell penetration is the worst stat in the game period. Cobalt Band of Tyrigosa - Item - World of Warcraft would be a solid upgrade off heroic MT(mana tombs not magister's terrace) last boss. Ring of Recurrence - Item - World of Warcraft off chess is good too, but you're prolly not in kara yet (otherwise you would have violet signet).

My advise would be to experiment a bit, indeed the iHot has no raid purpose and eventually you'll have to choose, I understand you want to have some PvP survival chances on a PvP server, but you might put a PvP set of gear in your baggs for that, when you go more into raiding your going to need all the points you have for raiding beneficial talents.
Like I said, play a bit with the talents, watch your threat, dps, mana with the different options, and find the build that you enjoy best, nobody can tell you what that is. Have fun, Sita |

Re: [Raiding] Looking for critique of the affliction build I'm switching to
Hi there,
I would suggest you to drop 2 points from Fel Concentration and 1 point from Curse of Exhaustion to max out Malediction for raid utility. 3 points in Fel Concentration is enough for solo/grinding. Also as Kalshore suggested, i'd drop 1 point from Devastation to pick up Shadowburn; it's a wonderful spell for both PvE and PvP. Good luck and have fun. You will probably be doing some re-spec along the way to suite your playstyle/guild-need, so experiment... Regards! |
