I know there's another thread almost identical posted earlier but its concentrated on Raiding exclusively.

So what specs will you be using after October 14th before the xpac for BG and Arena?

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

haven't decided whether or not ill be going

3/5 fire and brimstone, 5/5 shadow and flame

or

5/5 fire and brimstone, 3/5 shadow and flame

yet, but i only play rogue/destrolock/priest and a crazy *** 5 dps/hybrid healer build. if i was running a balanced setup i'd probably go

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

im sure there is a better survival spec out there, but that one seems to be the best damage/utility spec with both impHOT and soul link.

Re: BG, Arena Spec between 3.0.2 - WOTLK

I was looking at this as well. I'm currently using this SL/SL build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

Building off this success, I took a look at this build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

In arena/BG, most of us are looked at as squishy, easy kills, until they meet an SL/SL lock that knows the class. I still think that pummelling melee class is a beautiful thing

Having been spec'd 0/21/40 longer than I care to remember specifically for raiding purposes and suffering in PvP accordingly I am looking forward to going back to a hardcore PvP Destro Spec

Since I've spent most of the Wrath of the Lich King Alpha/Beta period reading up on the DK ( my new raiding main) I'm sadly lacking in details for the new Warlock talent trees and cramming today while "working" so any feedback on the spec is appreciated. I've only taken it up to level 70 atm. No point worrying about the rest until Nov.

Found an interesting post on the WoW forums here:

Full Affliction to UA, and pick up 5 in demonic embrace for the extra stam

Forget soul link, with the nerfs to it its still worth picking up, but we can afford not to in exchange for insane amounts of extra damage and healing ourselves through drain life and haunt.

Soul Siphon and Fel Concentration are keys to this build. Picking up 5/5 shadow embrace now is so good. 5% more Dot damage over 12 secs, and it stacks twice, so thats 10% more Dot damage and all you have to do is spam Haunt whenever cd is up, and the occasional shadow bolt.

Pick up siphon life of course, and 5/5 shadow mastery, adding on another straight 10% more damage on any spell AND 10% more life drained from both siphon life and drain life. Go 5/5 contagion, get Dark Pact just because you have an extra point, and it allows you to be able to drain life spam a guy in your face even if your OOM and your HP is falling fast not allowing you to lifetap. Its like the good ole days of full afflic leveling and spamming dark pact with a imp out.

Getting 2/2 Imp Howl of Terror gives this build SO much more reason to be used, an instant fear is the best thing a lock can have, even if its used to have someone burn their trinket and get off you, so you can use a regular fear and fear them for 4 secs.

Get UA obviously and Death's Embrace. Nice talent for a more quick gib on a target or saving yourself from getting gibbed. 3/3 Pandemic is a very nice passive damage boost, of course Afflic locks will not be stacking crit, but even a little chance to do 100% more damage on a dot is golden.

5/5 Everlasting Affliction is just more damage per dot tick, and gives you a way to refresh corruption through your normal rotation of spells. And then pick up Haunt as your final talent, a nice direct damage spell that gives you another 20% more damage from dots and heals you for 100% of the damage done during the 12 secs after Haunt hit the target.

All in all, the increase to Dot damage is astonishing but just from a drain life perspective:

You increase your drain life ticks by 24% alone, with shadow mastery, shadow embrace and the added 4% from soul siphon via UA. My drain life ticks for about 460 roughly now, add on another 100 per tick and your gonna be healing almost 3k damage every drain life channel if they all go through.

In addition to a helluva lot more damage from dots and the huge heal after you use Haunt. Haunt, which lasts for 12 secs after it hits the target has a 10 second cd so you could potentially keep it up on the target all the time.

The only class I see this not working well against, purely from a 1v1 perspective, is rogues. Obviously w/out soul link your going to get ***-#*!#d so I think once you hit 80 and grab soul link this spec will work much better against them. But until then it should still work wonders against all other classes, maybe hunters will give us a bit of trouble. Although I will probably spec Meta just to test it out, I won't stay full demo because it's just a tanking spec, no real damage dealing abilities besides the talent itself and if you go all 51 into demo you're just gonna turn into a 45 sec lock but w/out the cool instant casts and ways to kill people quickly a 2 min mage had.
Thoughts? It doesn't have soul link but worth a try at least especially with the changes to soul link.

Actually pyroclysm is a garbage talent. It was in the last 2 expans, it will be in this one (some things just don't change). Now with those 2 talent points you can max out both F&B and S&F. Other than that, that is the exact build I planned on trying out for pvp.

I was just toying with talent builds, and I created a very similar 56/5 build just before reading this :P

I didn't have Shadow Embrace at 5/5 in mine, but I suppose that that's more useful than the somewhat weak Eradication.

I agree, though, with the reasoning behind that build - Haunt seems more useful than Soul Link, in its current state.

Well I just tried deep demo and it really rocks, im not very well geared for example when I go affliction, i have about 800 spell damage, demo gave me 967 or something like that. I'm not sure if you know this but your pet stays out in metamorphesis, then its like ZOMGUBERDPS

Re: BG, Arena Spec between 3.0.2 - WOTLK

I seriously need to see more thoughts on what our hard-core PvP locks are doing out there. What are you (former SL/SL) locks doing out there? I don't raid (rarely) and I see a lot of nice raiding specs, but very little on the way of PvP.
Reading the patch notes, it almost looks like a full Aff for Haunt, then grab the 11 SL. I'm still (spending G) on a good combo.

Very much agreed. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I was SL/SL pre-patch and now I just simply don't know. I do know that I've spent a lot of gold trying to figure it out. I also have not seen a lot of info in regards to what PvP locks are doing with their talents and would love to see more input on this as well.

Thanks, Kyden for posting that link to the forums discussion. While it may not give a solid solution, the discussion is informative, interesting and at least gives me some ideas to play around with. I think I'll try that build out and see how it works.
