leveling 50-70 in 3.0.2
Hi there, before any flames, i know theres a lot of threads asking for leveling builds en stuff, however even though i searched i couldnt find something to fit my sorta "special" circumstances ^_- after playing wow for a couple years i quit earlier this year after mainly playing a priest/rogue/druid heavily. played most classes aswell to mid levels to try them out except the lock. so when a friend finally convinced to come back to wow i decided to roll the lock and so far i <3 it. Because my friend got me back in the game we're both currently enjoying our triple xp wich makes life much easier. i had some idea of the lock talents and was affl this way up(level 46) i love affl esp since dark pact became available. however because the triple xp requires you to level together 90% of the time im on a mob with my warr friend wich means mobs die when my dots did about 1/4th or 1/3th of its damage. now im fastly approaching 60(expect to be it early next week or so) i'm wondering what the hell to go for. since i have little lock experience im not too familiar with their talents but figured to spec demo or affli for outlands. Now with the new talents i hardly have a clue what to spec now(thinking of imp felhunter affli with dark pact) but having doubts wether demo wont be better for dps when leveling with my warr pal when i can get a FG. also what would be best for outlands? considering i will play more solo there then i do atm since triple xp stops at 60 but will probarly still be doing a lot of teaming up with my mate. (instance dps isnt really a issue since ive been there done that im only interested in getting back to 70 be4 the expansion hits) so what to spec now and what to spec when i go to outlands? thx in advance for any help and sorry for the terrible read :p |

Affl and Demo will both serve you well power-leveling through Outland. Personally I made the switch to Demo at 50 and rode it out to 70. Affl would serve you better in the dungeons but Demo performs adequately despite the pet management required. I'd suggest Demo but your best bet is to stick with whichever of the two you are most comfortable managing, that will be more key to how fast you level with these two specs.

A lot of people like Affliction, and I must agree Affliction is very nice but I always stick to Demonology. My reasons are that if a Rogue jumps on me and I am Affliction theres 95% chance I'm toast. When I have a Felguard attacking a mob I can intercept the Rogue and pound him in return. Better survivability. I specced Felguard as soon as I hit 50 (build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft) Soul Link, and simply a huge pet to tank for you, are very nice bonusses to keep you up and going. Another nice thing is that you are not as reliant on DoTs as Affliction is. The next 5 levels you should be investing into Bane (for the Shadowbolt cast time reduction). When you get low on mana ou can life tap and drain life mobs. Another nice thing about the Felguard is that it isnt just a tank, its also a nice DPS addition, especially with Cleave. If you prefer your Warrior pet (;)) to tank your Felguard can always DPS. The main thing about Affliction for me is that it is not effective while levelling in groups. Mobs die before your dots do their full ticks, or even half. IMO Affliction was made for soloing (and taking on 3-4 mobs at a time), but not for grouped levelling. I think Demonology will be better for this, or even Destruction, though that will increase your downtime.

If you do single targets (or actually 3 max) down-time with the Felguard is extremely low. You just Curse of Agony (Corr for harder mobs), Life Tap and Health Funnel, sometimes even Drain Life, Death Coil for Health Return and finish. Your pet does the rest. Mana Feed is required for this style though. It requires very low concentration which is good for grinding imho. I think with Metamorphosis it will be even more simple. |

cheers for the replies, i was figuring demo myself aswell because although i enjoy the affliction playing style i really notice my dots are only contributing a minimal amount to our damage since my mate pounds mobs pretty fast aswell so going for a more dps approach would do fine. thx for linking the build but it's linked to a level 70 51 point destro build  might try some affliction till i get high enough to get the felguard and then switch to it. or is it wise to alrdy spec to demo since its better dps when leveling with my mate and saves me a respec(since ill prolly hit 50 tomorroweve anyway)for affliction atm i'm looking at: Warlock Talent Calculator and looking at the next one if i go felguard a bit later: Warlock Talent Calculator I have no idea if these specs are any good or if im wasting talents so any tips are apreciated ^^ cheers Last edited by Xyon; October 15, 2008 at 12:19 PM.. |

Well i used affliction to level from 1 to 60 pre-3.0, then changed to demo to check it out before the patch day. Now i decided to try out affliction again, because the new affliction with haunt is just toooo sweet for me to not try it. Im currently level 60 and this is what i picked: 51/0/0 I was thinking maybe demo too, it was pretty cool, even do i kill one mob at a time (since the FG doesn't have AoE taunt <.<). I still have to test out my affliction build because my mana tap sky rocket with the patch (i was mana taping for 359 talented and now for 1200 UNTALENTED)... sweet. I though Haunt jumped from mob to mob... as i recall, put apparently they got rid of that part a long time ago :(, im still looking for a good rotation for this, probably is gonna be something like 1. SL, Curse of Agony, Corr, UA on the 2, 3 or 4 mobs. (depends on how hard they hit me) 2. SL, Curse of Agony, Corr, Haunt on the last mob... maybe HoT after or just Drain Life one of the unHaunted mobs. If anyone has any subjections, those are welcome (no mean to hijack the thread, i think it will help both of us as well  ).

44/0/0 Warlock Talent Calculator I am currently a level 53 lock and have been searching through every post trying to find a built that suites my needs in getting to 70(or 80 now) as fast as possible since 3.0 came out. Affliction has been my b&b since the beginning so i figured why change now? Usually consisting of: SEND BLUE, UA>Curse of Agony>SL>Corr>fear/DL usually gets as much out of my DoTs as possible in PvE and havent had too many troubles. Does anyone know of any more efficient tactics with these new talents and changes that could help? Anyone have any experience going Demo using SL and FG to help the lvling process by any chance? Or with the fire frenzy going on lately is Destro now a viable and mana efficient way to solo? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
