Redmage's Wotlk Leveling program and talent specs suggestions
Redmage's Wrath of the Lich King Leveling program and talent specs suggestions Introduction: The question is, what to spec come November 13th? I present to you my leveling build suggestions The idea for this leveling program is NOT to level the quickest. The point of this program is to allow you to go through all of your 3 trees while leveling up. I believe this will allow you to learn all of our talents in a very in depth way. It will make subsequent respecs at 80 a lot easier, and best of all, you will have the knowledge ability to build a tailor made build that is best for YOU. I actually did something similar when i leveled during BC. I think this approach really helped me in learning all the skills I have at my disposal and how they perform in real life. I have met many warlocks who was so fixated in one build that they forgot they have this other side of warlocking that they never knew. Yes, it will cost a few gold to respec, but you will save yourself a lot of time looking up cookie cutter builds online. Don't find out for online, find out yourself! My aim is to make this process as pain free and as educational as possible. This is just a guide, not rules, so free feel to change and experiment. I mean, it is harder to "experiment" when you have raid duties, or have to min max for arenas. Leveling is the least demanding stage for precise specs. The method is simple, try to get a feel of all the active abilities in the game, things like meta, haunt, chaos bolt, shadowfury. Procs that your react to is also high priority, things like nightfall, backlash, empowered imp. Passive procs are nice to have but they don't really add to your experience, things like Nether protection, Malediction Without further delay, here are my humble suggestions: Suggestions: Level 70) Build 1) Meta/Destro - Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Level 71) Add 1 pt in Demonic Empathy Level 72) Build 2) Affliction heavy - Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Level 73) Add 1 more pt to Eradication Level 74) Add 1 more pt to Eradication Level 75) Build 3) Imp Destro Build - Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Level 76) Add 1 more pt in Aftermath/Pyroclasm Level 77) Add 1 more pt in Aftermath/Pyroclasm Reasoning: The first build is mostly demonology, you will have a very powerful tank in the VW and the Felguard, as well as instant seduce for the instances that you will run. Meanwhile, your pet will hit hard while your survivability is great with soul link, Demonic Embrace and metamorphosis. Bane is still retained of course. The second build switch to affliction where you maximizes all the core damage and healing prowess. Very different play style vs demo. It might take a few moments to get used to, but you will be delighted with the mana efficiency. The new felhunter will also take center stage when using affliction. The last suggestion is destro where your empowered imp will take centre stage. You will see first hand the awesome burst capability of destro. Improved soul leech and soul leech is there to make sure that your imp and yourself don't go OOM so easily. Also, you can start to use Shadowflame and conflag at level 75. At this point, the only talents that you have not tried are i) Improved Curse of Agony ii) Frailty iii) Malediction iv) Improved Healthstone v) Improved Demonic Tactics vi) Demonic Sacrifice vii) Master Conjuror viii) Improved Enslave Demon ix) Improved Shadow bolt x) Improved Searing Pain Except demonic sacrifice, everything else is basically a passive buff to one of your current skills. These missing talents make things are more effective, but they don't really add to your playstyle. Menwhile, all other active/proc base abilities are now familiar skills. Now it is time to re think what you like, what you enjoyed, and spend the next 3 levels perfecting it! Those end game pvp/raid specs will be here in The Den when the time comes. Conclusion: After the program, you will know the pros and cons of each build, each talent, and you can start to cater a new build for your own preference. I hope you see the point of this post. There is no need to actually follow the builds. The idea is to experiment during leveling, rather than use one build, do 10 levels of it and then learn later when you really need to perform in a raid or BG. Cheers! P.S. Feel free to make suggestions, point out mistakes so I can edit them.

Interesting. I've been tempted to try out Demo again for leveling (I leveled from 1-70 as Demo, then respec'd as affliction). |

I am already playing with the different specs while I wait for Wrath of the Lich King and will continue to do so while I level. I agree it is best to know what all the trees have to offer. |

I am tempted to follow your lead on those builds Affliction has always been my thing (and it will hurt a bit to leave it), but I have hardly any knowledge of demo or destruction. I might cut the affliction part out of leveling and just stay demo a bit longer and go destro earlier. Thanks for the ideas, will keep them in mind

I feel iHoT is really not needed anymore with the changes to spell pushback. |

With all these spec changes, it will obviously be disorienting. I remember switching from affliction to destro, and how gimped I feel. I stuck with it a couple of levels and started to understand the good and the bad of the spec.

Re: Redmage's Wotlk Leveling program and talent specs suggestions
Thanks Red -- going to give this a try. I've always been 100% affliction through 70, so this is the first time I've respecced. With the demonology build -- do I just let the felgaurd do all the work and spam shadow bolts, and hit the meta when it cools down? Anything else I should be doing? Noob question I know, but hopefully this thread is a safe place to ask! Thanks! |
